Summary: Ehh
Review: I've been a Slayer fan for a number of years now, and I love the music. However, this DVD stirred a sense of distaste for Slayer in me which I had to wash clean with some good old Reign in Blood. The footage of the concert was ok, and the video for bloodline is cool to have. However, the fans rule section was basically a random collection of 15-18 year old teenagers venting the old "I hate my father/mother/religious leader/principal/boss/other figure of authority". If you're a Slayer fan who needs to have everything that Slayer has ever produced, then feel free to get it. However, if you're new to Slayer or don't care for the aforementioned teen angst, get the older video that Slayer released right after Divine Intervention, it's more interesting.

Summary: Brilliant but has lots of overdubbed singing
Review: Slayer is one of my favorite all-time bands (and Tom is the bomb), but 4 of the songs have the singing overdubbed. These 4 are all the God Hates Us All tracks (except Disciple, which is live). Perhaps the vocal melodies were too dependent upon hitting that one high root note relentlessly. A common argument is "a lot of people do it" or "it's the norm to overdub live recordings," but I prefer to hear someone hit (or miss) two hundred wrong notes than to hear something that was recorded afterwards. A key principle of Slayer is to be real. I'm not bashing Tom in the least (I'm amazed that he sings all-out so well 200+ times a year). I simply disagree with the decision to mess with the tracks.

The whole thing still rocks anyway. The vast majority of it (15 out of 19 songs) is live, so I still strongly recommend it to rock, metal, punk, and polka fans everywhere.

Review: I am a long-time Slayer fan and this DVD is rather depressing to me. Tom Araya's voice is so shot it detracts from the entire show. Musical performance, production, sound, etc - excellent. But Tom is too old, or strained to pull off any of the material - it is sad and causes me to question why they would release something that so obviously shows their age. Long live Slayer...But stop beating the horse.

Summary: WAAAAAR!
Review: I was fortunate enough to see Slayer play New York during this tour and boy, seeing this really brings back those memories. Seeing Slayer live is always an experience, and this DVD really captures it. The live set includes their thrash classics like, "Die by The Sword", "War Ensamble", "Angel of Death", "Mandatory Suicide", as well as the new favorites such as "Bloodline" and "Stain of Mind"; you know that though, just check the track listing! Anyway, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman's guitars are incredible and very together throughout the performance. Tom Araya's bass is great, and his vocals are intense as always (although some parts were overdubbed from what I hear, and I personally don't like that idea...I like hearing everything 100% live like on "Decade of Aggression"). As for the percussion I'm personally a big Dave Lombardo fan, he is probably my favorite drummer of all time; so I was very skeptical of how Paul Bostaph was gonna be on this DVD and I was not in any way dissapointed. Paul's awesome on here. If you don't find yourself headbanging to this DVD and you consider yourself a Thrash Metal fan, something is wrong with you. My only big complaint would be that of several others who reviewed this before on here...the Fans Rule section makes Slayer fans and metalheads in general look like idiots. Very few of them have anything significant to say and are for the most part a buncha drunk teenagers who seem to be into Slayer simply to be rebelious. It's stereotypical metalheads, which I think poorly represents the fans. Almost all Slayer fans I've met and talked to are intelligent people who can hold a conversation about whatever; unlike these idiots. I would say this is redeemed however in the fact that another extra feature on here is the Bloodline video, deffinatly a worthy thing to have. Forget the Fans Rule section, most of those people are not true Slayer fans...enjoy the concert and rock the fxck out!!

Summary: All hail the mighty Slayer
Review: Chronicling their God Hates Us All tour, Slayer's War at the Warfield is an absolute must have for Slayer fans everywhere. Forget the Live Intrusion video, this hour and a half live conert is the real deal. Filmed in San Francisco's Warfield Theater in December of 2001, the band rips through classics like "War Ensemble", "Postmortem", "Raining Blood", "Hell Awaits", "Die by the Sword", "Dead Skin Mask", "Seasons in the Abyss", "Chemical Warfare", "South of Heaven", and "Angel of Death" to a huge crowd of screaming Slaytanic fans. The live set doesn't feature any fancy stage show or fancy camera work, but none of that is necessary as we see the band be more powerful than ever. Also included on the DVD is a 50 minute documentary entitled "Fans Rule", the banned video for "Bloodline" from "God Hates Us All", and a photo gallery.

Summary: An Endless Well of Inspired Misanthropy
Review: I've watched (parts of) this thing 50 times -- we are talking SERIOUS replayability here. I would definitely agree with some of the other reviewers that Slayer does show their age at times during the performance -- at times they seemed so tired to me I thought they would pass out. Kerry King was obviously not having as good a night as Hanneman -- KK misses some notes in the solos, and doesn't always quite deliver at the crucial moment -- but Hanneman totally brought the house down. Unbelievable. Araya also misses a note here and there, but he tends to make up for it in other places.

But don't get me wrong, the performances on the whole are good, and some moments are downright transcendent -- which is why I would recommend this to the discerning Slayer fan. The renditions of the "God Hates Us All" material are in my opinion superior to those on the album; "Disciple" and "New Faith" are flat-out awesome here. "Raining Blood", "Dittohead" and "Mandatory Suicide" are also performed extremely well.

Somehow though, "Angel of Death" seemed to lose something for me live, and "Dead Skin Mask" is just terrible. (The solos made absolutely no sense -- far inferior to the original album version.) But again, the lows are few and far between, and the highs are as high as it gets in Metal.

And one more thing: I know all you old-school Slayer fans are dedicated to Lombardo, but honestly I can't see what all the fuss is about (at least from the perspective of live performances). Everything that I've ever heard Lombardo do live with Slayer CANNOT TOUCH what they do with Bostaph on this DVD. Try it and see for yourself. It's worth the price for "Disciple" and "Raining Blood" alone!

Summary: Awesome DVD!
Review: Slayer are probably the loudest, heaviest, and one of the BEST metal bands on the planet.I used to not be a big fan,but after seeing this I changed my mind. This is one of the BEST live metal DVDs EVER.Tom,Jeff,Kerry and Paul give one of their BEST performances ever, featuring a nice mix of old and new stuff. There are 5 God Hates Us All songs here, which may seem like a lot but isn't that much."Disciple","New Faith",and especially"God Send Death" rule. This also has the BEST versions of War Ensemble,Raining Blood and Chemical Warfare.Despite the AMAZING live show, there is a bomus feature called "Fans Rule" that flat out SUX.Few fans are smart. The rest are Satanic, disgusting or hilariously stupid.I do like it when they interview the band and other rock stars like Les Claypool,Scott Ian and Kirk Hammett. There is one fan that is SOO funny,u will just have to see for yourself. However, the interviewer should have some more respect. He asks some fans questions about sacraficing animals and necrophilia. This DVD STRONGLY earns its PA sticker. So kids,I wouldn't watch this one around your parents. This is much better than "Live Intrusion".

Summary: A great metal DVD.
Review: I love Slayer and have since I first heard them. I enjoy all of their CDs and they are definitely one of my top 5 bands, up there with Pantera. I was in Best Buy one day and I wanted this so bad, but at the last minute I decided not to get it, and instead I got Rise of Brutality by Hatebreed. Well I came here to Oregon for vacation and I saw this DVD in a store. I finally bought it a couple days ago, and I have watched it a few times already. I think it is a great live performance and an essential DVD for Slayer fans. The song selection is okay, there are some changes I would have made, but that is my only complaint. I could not tell that certain songs were overdubbed, as one reviewer noted. One thing is for sure, and that is that I am very glad that I bought this. It is a headbanging satanic skullbashing drunken metal masterpiece. Everyone should own this. Even the president.

Review: I have been a long-time Slayer fan, since the Reign in Blood days, and this DVD depressed me. They are showing their age, most glaringly Tom Araya whose voice is so shot it makes me wonder how they saw fit to release this. Musically their performance is fine, the mix is impressive, and the production is flawless - except for the frequency of the close-ups that show how old these guys really are. Ultimately the strain in Tom's voice takes away from the whole show - it is painful to hear and it certainly looks like he is struggling to even get it out. Long live Slayer, but stop beating a dead-horse.
