Rating: Summary: I wish I could give this 10 stars! Review: For anyone who group up on the Bee Gees, the live album we all owned and loved was "Frampton Comes Alive." Alright, I know you have all hidden the vinyl copy of that one away in the recesses of your closet and won't 'fess up to spinning that one 24/7 "back in the day." Well, I have news: this live performance beats any I have heard, it's *that good.* The Bee Gees, like McCartney, have always taken great pains to sing their songs live as closely as possible to the original. I appreciate this and their efforts to duplicate their classics here meet with much success. Particularly amazing is Robin's haunting, gorgeous vocal on "I Started a Joke," one of the great Bee Gees of all time. Similarly impressive is "New York Mining Disaster," which shows the brothers still had the ability to harmonize beautifully. The only slight criticism is Barry's high notes and falsetto, which he strains to reach, especially on "Stayin' Alive." He's backed up with some invisible (and pre-recorded) mystery voices, but his ability to sustain the high notes has decreased with time. Personally, I don't care. This is an awesome live performance and for anyone who admires the brothers Gibb, this is something from which you'll derive hours of enjoyment.
Rating: Summary: Excellent musical Disc unimaginative video Review: This is a terrific audio experience, for us old Gibb fans and for Bee Gee's fans-to-be. They cover all of their great hits. The "Brothers" do have occasional difficulty with the highest notes, but I think they always did, never the less their imaculate delivery, phrasing and feeling cannot be denied and has seldom been matched. A truly wonderful muscial experience. This DVD, however, cries out for a more complete video presentation. In particular, given that this will be a nearly first experience for many of the younger listeners who pick up the disc, a bio piece would have been a very nice and integral element to add. Also, doesn't any one out there realize that alternate angles for concerts would be highly appreciated and I suspect, fairly easily done. Overall this is darned near a "must have" addition to the collection of any self respecting Baby Boomer who remembers that before Travolta was a chubby actor he danced with Olivia Newton John.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!!!!! Review: Love them, or hate them, the Bee Gees are absolute legends. This concert demonstrates that in no uncertain terms. Almost every hit is included here. While some songs have been trimmed to allow for a melody of sorts, it no way detracts from the magic of them. A particular tender and enjoyable moment is when the Barry Gibb teams up with the late Andy Gibb via video for "Don't Throw Away Our Love". This will surely give you shivers up your spine. A DVD which has been re-released twice. The latter features a DTS soundtrack which gives the concert that extra bite! A law should be introduced so that DVD producers must release concert DVD's with DTS sound at all times. It really makes a difference.
Rating: Summary: A True Masterpiece Indeed!! Review: I just got this DVD for a friend for a gift, and I expected merely the "disco" hits because I wasn't very familiar with their hits. I had to pop it in and check it out to see what it was all about... these guys are absolutely superb!!! I can't believe all the songs that I didn't even know they wrote and how perfectly harmonious and well performed the songs are. I have watched this about 5 times in a two day span because it is so great. The sound is awesome, and I don't even have a DTS system.. not to mention the high-class setup for the concert itself visually. Being only 27, I didn't catch the wave the first time around.. but the BeeGees are now my favorite in the "all-time" category of musicians... This DVD is well worth 10 times the money I spent on it. Just too bad I have to give it away as a gift.. and too bad Maurice passed away cuz now I want to see them in concert more than anything!! PS... The Celine Dion duet gave me goosebumps, very well done!
