Rating: Summary: A must have video for every chili peppers fan Review: Off the map is an entertaining dvd for any chili peppers fan , cause it features songs from almost all of the chili peppers CD's.The band proves that there even greater live , of course with John back , what the hell could go wrong with the Chili Peppers. With a mix of John's brutally amazing guitar playing , Flea's fast bass playing , Chad's great drum solo's and Anthony's breath taking lyrics , this dvd couldn't get any greater than it is.
Rating: Summary: Get what you expect Review: Off The Map is exactly what I thought it would be...a concert dvd of the chili's doing a pretty standard set of the world tour. However, despite claiming it was filmed on one evening, it's clearly not the case, and therefore the tracks on this are all good versions of the songs. The chili's raw energy make this dvd worth every cent, however there is nothing new or different on it. The interviews are alright but the behind the scenes is excellent for any hard core chili fan. I also highly recommend getting the dvd, not the video, because the extra footage and songs is just as good as the concert itself. Overall a pretty standard release, nothing fresh on it, however considering nobody ever said there would be, than this is a top notch show.
Rating: Summary: If you love RHCP, just buy it!! Review: The bottom line on this video is that if you love the Chili Peppers, you will love this DVD. The sound is stellar, the video footage is great, and the playlist is brilliant. The extras are a pleasant addition, especially their cover of Search and Destroy. My friends and I have put alot of mileage on this DVD, and all of us own it. This is one I will be showing my kids.On a side note, whoever said John Frusciante is not a good guitarist obviously is not a guitar player (or at least not a good one). You ask any decent musician, and they will tell you that he is a great guitarist. One of the most creative rock guitarists out there, and my personal favorite.
Rating: Summary: Great DVD for any chili peppers fan Review: The chili peppers make an amazing performance on this concert , they play awfuly well , as they always do. This DVD is worth every single penny of what it costs.
Rating: Summary: finally after waiting a year it will be released! Review: the peppers recorded one of the final shows on their californication world tour last fall in portland and finally the dvd (and video)will get their releases! this is the 1st offical peppers release for the t.v. screen since their what hits!? video comp. back in 1992 (hopefully what hits and the two older videos, psychadelic sexfunk and positive mental octopus will get their dvd releases like funky monks did last year)not counting the unoffical rock your socks off dvd/video. this dvd is said to have bonus goodies like backstage footage and interviews but all i can say is finally...the peppers release something new for the eyes to watch and just think...about 3 months later we should have something new for the ears from the greatest band in the world!
Rating: Summary: Welcome back, John Review: The Red Hot Chili Peppers - Live. This amazing DVD has all the soul, the funk and the power of one of the greatest live bands on the planet. Taken from several shows off their Californication tour, the Chili Peppers offer up a good mix of funk riffs and soulful ballads that showcase their evolution and talent as songwriters and musicians. These guys, well into their 30s, can give lessons to any young band out there on how to rock. They pay homage to their roots, but most of the songs come from Blood Sugar and Californication. First let me say, "Thank God John is back!" Anthony is a great frontman, Flea is one of the greatest slap-bass players ever, and Chad is a top notch drummer. These guys are all at the top of their game, but this is a different band with John Frusciante. I saw them live on this tour in Norfolk, VA and I said the same thing after that show that I said after watching this DVD, "All the guys were great, but John Frusciante blows me away". He is the PERFECT fit for this band's style - he plays funk, he plays rock, he plays blues - sometimes he just stays back and lets Flea or one of the others take center stage. John is just brilliant here, playing with power, emotion, and even subtlety. As great as the others are, he is the missing piece that takes them from a great band to one of the best live bands on the planet. What a great story - many fans (and those who saw the Behind the Music) know of this guitar prodigy who joins the band at 18 only to crack under the pressure of fame and touring - then succumb to heroin addiction. It was really sad - this kid had one foot in the grave not too long ago. To see him get well and rediscover his passion and his calling - and to succeed so brilliantly - is very uplifting. The sound quality on this DVD is surprisingly good. The band is very tight, and the mix captures all the music and vocals very clearly. I actually prefer the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix over DTS on this disc, it sounds fuller to me. The extras consists of interesting but short interviews and pre-concert rituals. Also considered "extras" are 5 more live songs - I don't know why these weren't just included with the others. Luckily, there are great versions of "I Could Have Lied" and the power funk anthem "Sir Psycho Sexy" there to make it worth navigating the special menu selection. Being a Chili Peppers fan from way back and having seen this show live, I had high expectations for this disc. I was not diappointed. This DVD is a must for any Chili Peppers fan. The casual fan who only knows RHCP from the radio will be surprised at the talent and power these guys display. Great show.
Rating: Summary: subterranean homesick chili peppers Review: The red hot chili peppers are a band which never fails to please. Here they released a concert film, with backstage footage, and interviews called off the map. THE CONCERT: They play great. But you know, it doesn't have that huge stage and that atmosphere like in live at slane castle, but i like it. Anyway, they play some really old songs like me & my friends, and blackeyed blondie, and many more. They even play pea, which is from one hot minute. The musicianship is great like in live at slane castle. But the problem is that what you see is not what you hear. Like in otherside, it shows them playing much faster than you hear. And the same thing in more songs. The audio concert is one concert if you didn't know, so that's good. It's just that video is made up of a few. Anyway, it's really funny in the end where balls and makaroni starts falling on chad durring me & my friends. It was a joke by the opening act, the foo fighters. But the audio in that song was edited, so that it would be better to hear, and that annoys me! I wanna hear how it really sounded. So that's the problem, but everything else is perfect. Especially the performances. Search and destroy, sir psycho sexy, give it away, scar tissue, me & my friends, skinny sweaty man, blackeyed blondie, i could have lied, fire, if you have to ask, around the world, suck my kiss, blood sugar sex magik, what is soul, pea, easily, parallel universe, ussually just a t-shirt #3 are great. I mean seriously. And it also has great jamming. Flea has to be the best bassist of all time. And chad really rocks the drums. Not to mention John frusciante, who's one of the most amazing guitarists next to jimmy page and jimi hendrix. Anyway, the concert is great. THE BACKSTAGE FOOTAGE & INTERVIEWS: I think the backstage footage is too short. But it's really funny sometimes. Like when anthony warms up singing. Or when chad is fooling around. And it's interesting to watch them in the plane, practicing yoga and stuff like that. But you can't hear the interviews very well. But who cares. It's all about the music. Anyway, I'd rate this DVD 5 stars, because it's very enjoyable, and highly recommended to any peppers fan, and music fan. PS: don't vote for reviews whether you agree or disagree with it. Vote based on the information. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: Off The Map: Funky Monks at their ultimate best! Review: The RHCP are those pesky funky monks that don't know when to quit, they're still around after all these years and good on them for sticking around when so many other bands would've packed up and faded away after all these years. Off The Map: The Concert DVD is actually one of the best concerts I have managed to buy. This concert was the final one in their popular 'Californication' tour. The DVD is great quality and goes for 2 hours. It can be viewed on DVD, DVD-ROM and Playstation compatible.
The DVD has also pre-show backstage footage as well as interviews with separate band members but what sells the DVD is actually the concert. 18 songs are included within the concert footage with many of the Californication album hits as well as some oldies from past albums. The funky monks are aging like fine wine and the result is better music delivery. There is also a section of additional live footage from the studio of Parallel Universe, I could have Lied, Search and Destroy.
A must get and see for any funky monks fan.
Rating: Summary: Insightful, funky. Review: This DVD has almost everything I was hoping it would...obscure live songs, expected live songs, interesting behind-the-scenes footage, and a good show. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the Flea/Anthony-centered editing job. Yes, they're colorful, but in a live show I want to watch John, primarily. Or, at least, I want to hear him upfront. This DVD is vocal/bass-led, and John's guitar doesn't lead, it just fits in. I feel this detracts from their sound. However, this is an excellent DVD, and I hope you buy it. You'll enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: one of the best live dvd's I own Review: This dvd is amazing!!! The guys just sound great. I was fortunate enough to see them twice on this tour and after I viewed the DVD I had the same feeling I did after each show. They have some great rare songs on here. For example Blackeyed Blonde is one of the funkiest tunes the RHCP's do, but you never hear about it. I think it is great that they included it on this DVD. I think the mix is solid as far as live dvd's go. If you are familiar with Pearl Jam's "Touring Band" DVD that was released not long ago, I think the mix on that DVD is better, but this one is still good. For any RHCP fan, this is an absolute must for the collection. If you are not an RHCP fan, you are missing out on truly one of the greatest live bands in the history of music. The energy that is displayed by these four individuals is a joy to watch. You can tell they are truly passionate about the music they are creating and they are not just up there going through the motions.
