Summary: Awesome!
Review: "Off the Map" is one exciting concert DVD. Though I have yet to see them in concert this DVD makes me want to run out and buy tickets for their next concert. Considering the age of the band memebers, the energy they show on stage is amazing, and they are always exciting to watch. Before I continue I have some problems with this DVD, there are some obvious continuity errors during the concert footage, during thier performance of "Otherside", The drummer Chad Smith's outfit changes from a blue jumpsuit to a red one then it shows him wearing a hat then without one, and John's guitar changes during the songs too. But that aside, I found this to be a great experience, there is an hour and a half of concert footage plus 20 minutes of interviews, I found it to be a good look into thie peppers musical style. My favorite performances on this DVD are: "Around the World", "Give it Away", "Suck my Kiss", "Otherside", "Blackeyed Blonde", and "Paralell Universe". For any fan of RHCP check this out immeadiatly.

Summary: great DVD, annoying editing
Review: A definite must have for any Chili's fan. Only wish that they had better matched the footage with the audio. The editors did a great job with what they had i guess. It's subtle stuff, like on Give it Away(2nd track) John's boxer shorts "magically" change from red, to white, and then blue, and randomly switch between those 3 colors throughout the DVD. To say this is footage from one show is just plain silly. Unless they performed each song 3 times. It's really cool that there is finally some Concert footage of the peppers that wasn't all messed up with the "MTV Style" epileptic camera work. Each member of the band seems to get equal amounts of close-ups(well, except for poor chad). So, aside from the annoying inconsistencies with the video footage, this is an awesome showcase for the chili peppers of the new millenium, older and even more in tune with their instruments and music and each other. And it drives me nuts when i read that one review where the kid said "Heck, even John sounds good here (lets face it folks, he isnt a great guitar player).". I beg to differ, I think the man is part guitar, like it's an extension of his soul. He's got an incredible sense of harmony. His playing is a big part of why the Chili Peppers are as good as they are, especially with he and flea's chemistry. He's one musician who puts himself into his playing, makes his own sounds(just like flea and chad, BTW). Anyone with an ear for music can appreciate his work. it definitely shows on this dvd. So, buy it and have fun watching Anthony's mohawk rise and fall, watch his wristbands change colors back and forth. Count how many times John changes his boxers without putting his guitar down. Seriously though, awesome DVD.

Summary: Worth the money alone
Review: All of the "it's amazing" reviews are completely accurate with the 2 selling points being the varied setlist and of course Johns playing, but there is one thing that i would dish out $20 for alone. The version of the Stooges "Search and Destroy" is one of the greatest songs i have ever heard, and I'm not just talking cover songs, I'm talkin greatest tracks in any genre by and band period. It is unbelievable, if you haven't seen it go get it for that track alone you won't be dissapointed.

Summary: the funky monks are baaack!
Review: although the d.v.d has horrible lighting and skin tones are completely screwed up, the music is amazing. The jams, the funk, and the music is all really inspiring and amazing.
You'll find yourself completely rocking out to the tunes. They perform a lot of songs from "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" which made me very happy. Flea, in no contest, is the star of the concert, with amazing kick-butt energy, and his well received version of "pea" that he performs... John Frusciante also performs a very touching version of "Niadra Lades and Usually Just a Tshirt #3". I decided that I loved the dvd after a few watches, because it takes a while to grow. THey also perform many songs from "Californication," because that is the Cd they just performed. They also have a bonus interview, I believe, and it is very funny and touching, inteviewing the band members.
Off The Map is a Red HOt chili pepper must-have, and I enjoyed the heck out of it.. I watch it all the time! :)

Summary: Finally an awsome DVD!
Review: Finally an awsome DVD was made, instead of reused crap put together! A great band, and a great concert put onto DVD. It really captures the Chili Peppers' concert feeling. With Anthony's screaming lyrics, John's mesmorizing guitar solos, Flea's famous slap bass licks and Chad Smith's kick 'butt' drum beat. There is much more to the Red Hot Chili Peppers than just the recorded albums, they're awsome talent of improving, jamming and soloing straight from there souls is showcased on this DVD. There are more songs included on the DVD than what is listed here, they're under "Extras", there are also a cool interview with the band and really cool footage of the pre-show. If you're a Chili Peppers fan than this is deffinitly well worth the money!

Summary: This is why I bought a DVD player
Review: I attended this concert when it came to the Washington DC area in 2000. I loved every minute of their performance that night - and now I can re-live it in the comfort of my own home.

If you turn up the volume, and have a surround sound system, its just like being there. And the cost of this DVD is less than half the of an actual ticket!

The playlist doesn't stray too far from their most popular hits, so don't be afraid to buy this if you're only a casual RHCP fan.

Summary: A national treasure ...
Review: I bought this DVD knowing nothing of RHCP other than having heard their CD, Californication. It opens with the Flea laying down snarling bass licks on a dark stage, and announcing "We are the Red Hot Hot Chili Peppers, and we will rock your m*****f***** a$$!" The man did not lie.

It quickly became apparent that RHCP is a band which hones their music in live performance, feeding off the crowd energy. The musicianship is impeccable. Watching the bass technique of Flea, my jaw began to drop. Later I read that he and Anthony were high school friends in Los Angeles. But that thumping, looping, berserker bass comes straight out of the juke joints of Mississippi by direct telepathic connection.

As I noticed the prominent tattoo of Jimi Hendrix on Flea's left bicep, my mind began to drift. It came to me that when Jimi went to heaven, his reward was to be able to play ALL the instruments -- lead guitar, bass, and drums -- to create the music he had always heard in his head. And it seemed that the Red Hot Chili Peppers were channelling another concert which never took place on earth: Jimi Hendrix playing all the musical instruments; Jim Morrison on vocals with new, raw, ecstatic poetry.

When you realize that, you realize that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are a national treasure: consummate musicians. Carve their faces on the side of a mountain. If they were British, they would have been knighted.

Yes, continuity problems are a minor distraction on this DVD. But in terms of both the music and the production values, it stands head and shoulders above any other concert DVD. The video footage is "up close and personal." You can see the beads of sweat on their faces. You can read the decal on Flea's bass guitar: "A Flea Still Drinks the Blood of Those Who Wouldn't Harm a Flea."

This DVD is a revelation, a landmark ... a celebration and a ceremony. Live music just doesn't get any better than this. Enjoy it and preserve it for future generations.

Summary: The Peppers rock
Review: I concur with most of the reviewers who say this DVD is awesome. They are such an intense and tight live act, which this DVD captures very well, with the reservations noted by others. My main complaint, as a drummer myself, is that the mismatch between the audio and video is really obvious with the drums. That's a big disappointment for me, however, I really don't notice the problem with the other players at all.

I'm not a guitar player, but I know enough to see that John is an incredible artist. His arms are a mute testimony to his former life on the edge and I know now where they got the concept for Scar Tissue. That song on the album, and on the DVD, has one of the sweetest, most soulful guitar solos I've heard.

A must have if you like the Peppers at all or just enjoy good live music!
