Summary: Good, but not as good as Off the Map
Review: Don't get me wrong, I think Live at Slane Castle is an incredible live DVD. It's just difficult for me, because the Red Hot Chili Peppers are on of my favorite bands... Unfortunately, this one pales in comparison, not due to the performance (which is excellent) but due to the song selection. The oldest songs they play (if you don't count a Ramones cover) are songs from "Blood Sugar Sex Magik." Where's "Fire?" Where's "Me and My Friends?" These and others are Chili Peppers classics, and should be included in place of mediocre at best current songs like "Don't Forget Me," and "Venice Queen." The other strange thing about this DVD is the lack of upbeat songs. They opened with "By the Way," for Christ's sake. I'll end this review by saying that despite the mediocre at best set list, the show is captivating, and incredibly well played. It's excellent by the standard of live DVD's in general, but not great by the standard of RHCP DVDs.

Summary: Buy The Way
Review: This definitely is the best RHCP video/DVD release and definitely one of the best concert DVD's ever. The sound and the video - this includes the camera angles, lighting and effects - are of the highest quality. Hell, the venue background is a castle.

This captures what one show of the "By The Way" tour looked like for those that missed it, but should be essential for those who caught them on that tour. Having seen the Peppers six times over their career, the shows on the "By The Way" tour are in the upper echelon (Woodstock and my first show after the return of John Frusciante takes no. 1), mainly focusing on songs from "By The Way" and "Californication."

Some may have qualms with the setlist, but you can't blame them for taking out BSSM songs (excluding the hits they "have" to play) - that album is over ten years old and they have grown considerably as musicians, particularly the definite star of this show, John Frusciante. He is enigmatic on stage and brilliant in his guitar playing. His vocal harmonies are pitch perfect and really beautiful. The DVD also includes the doo-wop song he performed on the tour (it's buried at the tail end of "Around The World") and in my opinion the highlight of the disc.

This is a must for RHCP/John Frusciante fans. No question.

Summary: a great example of a great concert
Review: This is probably one of the best concerts ever. Musicianship is unbelievable. Chad Smith is a wonderful drummer, and Flea's bass solo is so fast. And he's the best bassist of all time. Anthony Kiedis sings great, even if he jumps so much. And john frusiciante. He's the best guitarist of all time. And also they jam, and improvise so much. My favorite song is power of equality. This is something for every rhcp fan, and music fan. Get this dvd now.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: If you don't have your DVD player hooked up to a kick-ass home theater setup, go out and buy one NOW so you can enjoy this DVD to its fullest! The energy of this concert really comes through in this DVD and anyone who has ever liked any Red Hot song ever should get this now! I've been disappointed with the production quality of some concert DVDs I've purchased recently, but this DVD's production values are top-notch in every way. It has excellent clean audio recordings, and crisp, clear anamorphic widescreen video.

Summary: ***Truly Amazing***
Review: No fooling around here...Just a super-funked-up and very tastefully done live-music DVD. The Chili Peppers are at their finest and funkiest. They make you appreciate what sight and sound was intended to do for us music/video fans. The set is mostly from their most recent CD's but don't let that fool you!
What sounds mature and graceful on Californication and By The Way looks/sounds even better as soon as the first note hits your ear. The DVD is mixed with as much energy as the Irish fans that seem to know every word of every song and aren't afraid to sing them. The band has not let-up either...most bands would have walked off the stage after playing half as many songs as this...and felt good about it. Cudo's to the boys from LA and thanx for showing the world AGAIN what real people with real musical talent who actually play their instruments can do.

Summary: Slane will Blow Your Mind
Review: I'll make this short. Quite simply, this DVD is absolutely breathtaking. I bought the Coldplay DVD last week, and it pales in comparison to this one. Slane boasts incredible effects (like a 360 degree circling view of Anthony while in midair), great camera angles, fades between the crowd and closeups of the guys, and other amazing things. The setlist for this show is incredible, the highlights being Under the Bridge and Venice Queen. This was the biggest crowd the Peppers ever played for (80,000) people, and there is nothing quite like seeing everyone chanting together with only Chad banging on his drums. In short, I assure you that you will get chills down your spine when you watch this. If you liked Coldplay's Live 2003, then you will like this even more! Enjoy.

Summary: Amazing!
Review: There is only one reason why I do not rate this DVD with 5 stars: I really like "Could Have Lied" and "Soul to Squeeze" and they are not in the DVD. Other than that, this is an excellent DVD with great, great sound and amazing direction. The venue is incredible and the songs sound awesome. I went to a Chili Peppers' concert last year and watching this DVD made me feel as if I was there. Very nice. Highly recommended.

Summary: Sound issue
Review: I've always like RHCP but just started getting into it after the greatest hits album. I picked up the DVD and was happy with some Frusciante and Flea solos. They have great chemistry and are definately top-notch in the industry and it shows on the DVD. However, I was a little bit disappointed with the supposed DTS sound. I have numerous music DVD's from similar large venues that are of far superior quality. I wasn't picking up nearly enough bass and the vocals seemed a little muted, telling me that the recording just wasn't great. I would have also liked some longer jams with the quality of musicians that they are. Overall though, it is an enjoyable experience.

Summary: Greatest Hits Live!
Review: Last October, I saw the Chili Peppers in concert, and it was amazing. In my opinion, they are better live then they are on cd. When I found this dvd at stores for sale, I immediatly bought it.
When I popped it in my dvd player, I was impressed. They are even better live then i remembered! I loved every song on this dvd, and was happy to see John Frusciante's solo song "Maybe."
This band is the best band EVER, and the dvd is proof.
