Rating: Summary: Fantastic concert recording Review: Great document of this tour. However, many people have had problems with the disc not playing after a period of time. If you have trouble with your disc return it (just the disc, not the packaging) to Beyond Music and they'll send you a replacement. p.s. I've noticed they changed distributors from BMG to UNI. Perhaps the UNI discs don't have the problem?
Rating: Summary: Somethings missing? Review: I watched this DVD and really enjoyed the outstanding video and audio production but when it was over I had a strange feeling that something was missing? I went back and watched it again and then it struck me, there was no passion in the playing! It was as if the band was going through the motions for the cameras and were just putting in the time. This is my fourth DVD Yes Video and while I recommend it for the outstanding production qualities, 5* Video and Audio, I would have to give it a 1* for passion of performance hence the 3* rating. If you are looking for an outstanding DVD video of Yes in their glory go to e-bay and try to grab a copy of Yes "Live at the QPR". This is a legit Asian only release (no region coding!) of Yes during the 1975 Relayer tour. It is a complete show and truly shows Yes at the height of their power and glory. The Video (5* camera work for the era) and Audio (3* in Dolby 5.1!) quality is very solid. The only down side is there is no Rick Wakeman but it is interesting to see Patrick Moraz and he gives a very good performmance. As I said this video is recommended for the excellent production values and a chance to see Yes perform live but don't expect to come away feeling you have seen Yes at there best..... Now we can only hope a decent video from the upcoming Classic Yes tour will be released some day..............
Rating: Summary: Great Show for a While... Review: This DVD of Yes at the House of Blues is in a word spectacular. I have been a fan for many years and looked forward to this release of one of my favorite bands of all times. However, I had the same problem that other reviewers have mentioned...the DVD played just fine for about 10 or 12 plays and then it stopped working! I have tried this disc on other people's players all to no avail. I figure that the issuing company owes me [money] and an apology for this odd problem. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to resolve this issue?
Rating: Summary: Second Best Only to Being There Review: There are few concert videos that reach the perfection of the House of Blues. Other Yes concert videos have not even come close to the quality of this one. Finally! a Yes video that does not have all of that cartoon junk, or too many interview clips which has ruined many past attempts. KUDOS - You have finally hit the Jackpot with House of Blues. It's a video that captures the essence of a live Yes show. I hope that they find a way to produce something of this quality for the most recent Symphonic Tour. Although I will continue to go to the live shows for as long as they continue to tour, it is really nice to have the ability to relive the experience as often as I like.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Yes Concert with one caveat Review: As already mentioned this collection is excellent. The musicianship is outstanding and the boys are in good form. The 5.1 mix really opens up and enhances their complex sound. I have one caveat for this disk - several folks, myself included have YATHOB disks that will no longer mount and play in our DVD players. Mine has no scratches or abberations of any kind and after about a dozen plays or so it no longer works. I've tried it in three different players with no luck. My only conjecture is that the gold color of the playing surface is more difficult for some DVD players to read (I have a top-line 2nd generation player) and perhaps changes over time. This is only a guess, your mileage may vary. So I'm stuck with a favorite DVD that won't play. Otherwise an excellent concert. Caveat emptor...
Rating: Summary: The House of Yes -- Built to Last Review: It has been more than 30 years since the hypnotic chords of Roundabout first swirled through the airwaves. Today Yes, both in the studio and live, are creating some of their most vibrant, cohesive, and satisfying music in since their classic period (The Yes Album through Going for the One). The House of Yes is an exhilarating testament to Yes remarkable musical Renaissance. The concert blends classic Yes favorites with material from the latest Yes album - The Ladder - and captures the band on an exceptionally good night. This set manages to capture the blistering energy of Yessongs (1973) with the technical polish with the sonic and video quality of Keys to Ascension (2001). Jon Anderson, amazingly, is in better voice now than he was thirty years ago, and he has evolved into a charismatic stage presence. Chris Squire possesses one of the most distinctive bass sounds in rock music, and he and drummer Alan White anchor down one of the best rhythm sections in rock music. Steve Howe is simply in a class by himself, displaying remarkable versatility and technical prowess on close to a dozen different guitars throughout the set. In a band with a guitarist of the caliber of Steve Howe a Yes newcomer like Billy Sherwood might seem superfluous, but Sherwood acquits himself quite well, as does keyboardist Igor Khoroshev who fits in very capably with the band. But aside from the individual excellence this line-up really plays well together. The vocal sound is strong, assured, and the instrumental portions energetic, cohesive, even stunning. 33 years is a long time in the life of a band. Over the years Yes has had numerous incarnations and more than a dozen different members have passed through its roster. Yet the musical adventure that is Yes continues. The Beatles may have been the most influential band in rock history, and the Rolling Stones may be the greatest live "club" band, but Yes is proving to be the most enduring and accomplished.
Rating: Summary: awesome Review: best Yes DVD ever as far as sound and video quality goes
Rating: Summary: Greatest musical dvd of all time Review: This DVD is one all Yes fans must have. A great mix of new tunes from the Ladder and several great classics!. "Homeworld" is awesome and should be a classic someday. The DVD opens with one of the best Yes songs "Yours is no Disgrace" and is the best version of this song I have every heard. The greatest song on DVD every is "Awaken". Listen to this alone with no interuptions and you will see why. I have seen Yes over 15 times and this DVD is the closest thing to being their live. Their timing is impecable and the audio and video is clean, crisp, and tight! I promise you will not be disapointed.
Rating: Summary: I tried very hard to like it, but... Review: First, let me say that Yes has been and always will be a favorite of mine, no matter what incarnation. That is, I have found merit in every album from Topographic Oceans to 90125 to YES (where Tony Kaye boasts one of the best Hammond sounds to date), and the new music keeps opening up new dimensions each time. But here it comes... The "House of Yes" DVD was lacking about 5% in about 10 different categories, and as a result, the overall impression suffered from I-can't-put-my-finger-on-it syndrome. This was my 1st DVD, and I'm sorry to say that I'm returning it for a refund (or maybe a swap for a better concert?). To begin with, the mix lacked the dynamics that made Yes famous. It's a very homogeneous blend of constant volume where nobody has a chance to shine. You'll find yourself constantly thinking, "Man, they should've cranked the [guitar or bass or keys,etc...] right there!" As a result, the songs lose all their explosivity and apassionata and become almost hackneyed. As for performance, the band was just not expressive enough. Or rather, the camera did not capture the band's expression. It's almost as if they're all standing around in a comfortable recording studio, just doing overdubs. Igor's keyboard solo in "Awaken"--a song that (from the GFTO album) never fails to lift my soul somewhere into the ionosphere when the pipe organ makes its final crescendo--was so bland that the song ended, leaving me wondering, "Did they take out part of the solo?" Ok. I'm just giving the guys a hard time. The DVD has its moments. Believe it or not, I loved the Homeworld "videogame" video, and I thought the "Making of the Ladder" outtakes were fantastic--now THAT's the sort of energy level I expect out of Yes. Ironic that those clips were in fact taken from some "comfortable recording studio" as I'd mentioned earlier. I would have loved to see 2 hours of that stuff! So, in closing, let me just suggest that you pass on "House of Yes", and instead just stick with the album tracks and use your imagination.
