Summary: A Worthwhile, Good Documentary Of A Legendary Band
Review: I already have the DVD of the 1992 concert "A Night At Red Rocks", which I'd gotten last year, so when I found this documentary DVD I offered it to "Santa" for a Christmas present this year. Having watched this program in full the first time through, I really like "Legend Of A Band"--it's very informative and it's not as skimpy as some other music documentaries I've seen/heard. A slightly negative attribute, though, would be that the program is a bit dated (having been compiled and produced in 1990); yet, this documentary, audio/video quality-wise, is good enough for DVD. Nevertheless, the 80-minute-long program is the disc's only content; there's no extra footage or material, which could've made the program even more interesting.
I like the intimate individual interview pieces with the core of the band (Justin, Ray, Graeme, John), between the full-length song videos and rare concert material, but the interview footage excludes founding member Mike Pinder and the band's (then) keyboardist Patrick Moraz; furthermore, I think it would've been neat if some of the interview footage would've been of the four guys together, which would've provided career comments and personal feelings and song explanations in a collective perspective. Still, this is an excellent documentary, which offers some songs I'd never heard before. Overall, the quality of this DVD is what other music documentaries should be but often are not, allowing me to further appreciate the "Red Rocks" DVD. If you're a die-hard Moody Blues fan, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with this program.

Summary: not perfect
Review: I bought this DVD yesterday and really enjoyed it. I especially like the part where Graeme Edge is checking into the hotel and they're fixing up this hair and coloring his beard. As far as video selection I wish they would have included "Sitting at the Wheel" which I know I've seen on VH1classic.

Summary: great DVD
Review: I recorded this documentary off of my local PBS station in 1991.The tape is long gone,so I was glad to find this DVD.The film features great interviews with the band members including justin hayward, john lodge and drummer graeme edge, who is especially charming. Also shows early footage of the band from the 60s and from early 80s music videos.Alot of people hate these guys, but i think they were one of the most inventive bands to come out of the U.K.

Summary: Plain vanilla reissue
Review: I'm glad to have this disc as a replacement for the VHS tape. However, the overall quality of the picture, while an improvement over VHS, isn't up to typical DVD standards. I'm not talking about the archival footage here, which is naturally of variable quality, but I expected better from the more recent videos and interviews. In particular, the video for The Other Side of Life lacks detail and the color is washed out. The VHS version looks better.

My guess is that this was mastered in a hurry using as its source one of the duplicating masters used in production of the VHS version.

Summary: This was embarassing
Review: I'm sorry, the Moody Blues are one of THE great music groups in rock in my opinion, but this one made me want to cry. Why do they need shapely backup singers? Aren't their voices good enough??? I found that some of their numbers (i.e. 'Ride My See-Saw') just DON'T sound good with an orchestra. Maybe i'm too much of purist, but i think just a concert by the 4 of them (and a keyboardist) would have been just fine. I did not watch this a second time.

Summary: The Story In Their Eyes
Review: Moody Blues fans this a must have for your collection especially since Ray Thomas is no longer with the band because he was one of the original founding members. The guys get a chance to talk about how the band originally all came about, what the music means to them and how they feel about each other. There is a hilarious scene in the beginning with Graeme getting his beard dyed brown and a wonderful accoustic solo of Tuesday Afternoon.

Also nowhere else will you be able to find the videos that were actually shown on MTV."I know your out there somewhere", "In your wildest dreams", "No more lies", "The other side of life",(my all time favorite) and more. I'll not give away all the surprises you must buy this for yourself to see and hear all the interviews, film clips, videos and rare concert footage. I first saw this on public television many many years ago and it inspired me to send them money.

This would make a great gift for yourself or a friend. I have both the VHS and DVD and the quality is possibly better on the VHS but either way you can't lose with this little gem. Truely wonderful!!

Summary: Great casual view of the "boys"
Review: The video footage of the band's early years really helps Moody fans understand what the band is about. They perform their songs as passionately as they did when they were written. I especially liked the footage of "I'm Just a Singer..." The look on Justin's face as he plays his guitar near the end shows just how intense his music is to him. The film also shows Graeme's great sense of humor. I've been a Moody's lover for years and this film pulled a lot of loose ends together.
