Rating: Summary: Long Awaited And Worth The Wait Review: I've been a fan for 28 years and if you are a fan, then this is a no-brainer. If you enjoy good guiter virtuosity, then Buck Dharma's solos on this is a no-brainer. The only two problems I have with this concert video are the fan's comments. Like the gentleman from Des Moines, I would have been more than glad to get some SOBER fans. The other is that the disc's audio is set up for Dolby 5.1 Surround and if you do not have Dolby 5.1 Surround or DTS Surround, you have to go to the AUDIO menu and select DOLBY 2 to get stereo. (Buck's vocals are on the right rear channel and get muddied out along with Alan's and Erics Keyboards on the left rear channel.) Other than that, BUY THIS, IT'S WORTH IT!
Rating: Summary: GOOD VIDEO - POOR AUDIO Review: I've been a fan of BOC since the 70's, and was excited when I found out they had released a DVD. I was not so excited after watching it. The concert footage and the video quality were great, but the sound is terrible. I own many concert DVD's, and this by far is the worst. The vocals on some songs are so low; it becomes painful to watch after a while. About half way through the film, my wife looked over at me and said, "We can always sell it at a tag sale".
Rating: Summary: GREAT BAND !! SHODDY SOUND PRODUCTION !! Review: If I was the manager of Blue Oyster Cult, I would fire the sound man responsible for the shoddy sound quality of this dvd. It's either BOC's sound man or the video production's soundman... Eric Bloom's microphone is way too high and Buck Dharma's microphone is completely turned off during some of his best songs, including "Don't Fear the Reapter" and "Dance on Stilts" and "Harvest Moon." If it wasn't for the fact I was a HUGE Blue Oyster Cult fan, I would not recommend this dvd because of the horrible sound. And whoever they have operating the video camera on the jib arm that scans the stage and audience should practice a bit more...Yes, I'm probably being a bit picky, but people (fans) who expect quality, deserve better than this. If you really want to get the best performance, see the group live.
Rating: Summary: Real good Review: If you listen to BOC long enough, you'll become addicted to their sound. That accounts for the rapturous reviews you'll read about this DVD. It's a mainline hit of Blue Oyster Cult.
Rating: Summary: Extraterrestrial spy checks on BOC progress Review: If your a BOC fan, this DVD will thoroughly dement you even further. If your lookin for a new rock n roll band this bad boy will burn your eyes out! ... This perormance brings back fabulous BOC memories of when they played Magic Mountain in '85. The production is very clear and warm, with sweet camera angles. ... If you have a hard time swallowing the gentrified music that's seems to sell these days, this video will restore some faith that a rock band can still have some cosmic punch. The new rhythm section is extra pumpin combined with already legendary guys like Eric, Alan &Buck. Memo to rock fans, even if you only know "Don't Fear the Reaper" and "Burnin for you", BOC has so much depth and consistancy that you're doin yourself a favor to explore them. Finally, a great rock band with their priorities straight who put integrity and music first...
Rating: Summary: You can't beat classic rock bands Review: It's been a very long time since a truly great 'new' rock band has come out. Nothing today comes close to the rock of the 70's and even the 60's.While some reviewers on here tend to critique DVD concerts on the technical aspects, I tend to watch them and critique them on how much I enjoy them. I have an extensive collection of music in all formats and about 80% of it classic rock and blues. This DVD brought back all the memories of the good times when the great bands were unique in their own sound and not cookie the cutter groups of today. This DVD showed the terrific talents that made BOC one of a kind. To me this was a very enjoyable concert that really rocks. For me a 4 star rating is almost as good as it gets. The 5 star rating is reserved for best of the best. If you are a BOC fan you will enjoy this concert and I recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: BOC Still rocks better than 98% of them... Review: Last time I saw BOC Live was like 1983 or so. Used to go see them at L'Amours over in Brooklyn, and MAN could they put on a show. They were awesome live, just awesome. Well, fast forward 20 years and they really do seem like they've still got "it". Hey, they did put out some albums that were DOGS back in the 80's (Club Ninja, cough cough), but they had such a solid body of work that you still had to love them. The quality and depth of that body of work is evident here. My man Buck Dharma still reigns as one of the top 3 Guitarists of all time - the man is as talented as they come. Period. He's still got more talent in one finger than most people have in both hands. Buck alone is worth buying this DVD for. Eric Blooms' voice is fried - gone - kaput - but hey, you try screaming your brains out for 30 plus years straight... He's still very listenable if you are a Fan. Bobby Rondinelli on drums is EXCELLENT - only vaguely aware of his name before this, but he drums his butt OFF in this concert. He's a very good fit to the band. All in all, this DVD is well worth the money. It ain't quite the BOC of my youth, but then I WAS drunk every time I saw them back then : - ))) BOC still rocks, still has talent, and is still relevant. Pick this one up, put your best black concert t-shirt on, open a cold beer, and take a trip back in time to when life was simpler and the music was better!!!
Rating: Summary: I WAS THERE Review: Ok, I am on my way to buy this DVD, but I must tell you I was actually at this show....I'd known a grand total of four BOC songs, but that didn't take away from the enjoyment at ALL. It was a fantastic show that was energetic, electric, and mystifying. Their lead guitar player shredded up Navy Pier, he was that good. I highly reccommend this DVD because the show was an absolutely spectacular one that I will never forget. You might even see me there! Peace out and, please, let the girl rock and roll.
Rating: Summary: A Long Days Night Review: Since I was at this concert, (8th row), my review is 2 sided. This concert ROCKED!!! If you are a BOC fan, this is a must have. Buck's guitar work on this one is cosmic!! Eric & Bucks vocals are right on, and Laniers keyboard work is eerily haunting!!! Lights, Camera, On Your Feet.... BOC ROCKS!!! Tim T.
Rating: Summary: If you thought they peaked in the 70's you're wrong Review: The Bouchard brothers left, and were replaced by a bad-a** bassist, and a kick-a** drummer. Add that to Eric Bloom, Alan Lanier, and The unequaled Buck Dharma on guitar, and it's a formula for a major kick in the head! If you don't buy this DVD you're a fool.
