Summary: Still rocking after 30 years!
Review: I have seen Blue Oyster Cult in concert twice, and they never fail to disapppoint. This concert, which was filmed in June of 2002 shows them at the top of their form. The concert was shot in 16:9 high definition, so the transfer is superb! Audio is available is Dolby Digital 2.0, 5.1 or DTS 5.1. Here's your chance to hear one of America's greatest bands play songs from their entire "career of evil".

Review: I just got this DVD from one of the superstores who put it out too soon...HaHaHa Lucky me. I was spellbound. These guys can still rock even though they look like Granpas on stage. Buck Dharma is shredding the guitar like no tomorrow and the sound and singing is truly impressive. Highlights include Dance On Stilts, Flaming Telepaths and definitley Buck's Boogie. There is an easter egg on the main menu of the page. Highlight song selection and then hit your "up" arrow...then press enter. This will reveal a short live clip of Eric Bloom telling a very funny baby joke! HAHAHA

Summary: Almost as good as LIVE
Review: I just viewed this DVD - AND I just saw BOC live at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, CA, this week. This DVD is phenomenal. Great video, great audio, excellent editing, great song selection. To be honest, the concert sound at the Catalyst was too loud and a bit distorted, and the song selection on this DVD is better than what they are currently playing on tour. Sure, I can complain that the left out "Astronomy", "Take Me Away", and "This ain't the summer of love" and a few other favorites off of this DVD; but overall it is superb. Perhaps they can put out another concert DVD in a couple of years and cover the great songs missing from this one! I'd buy it! If BOC happens to read this, also include "Golden Age of Leather". Buck Dharma and BOC are a truly great band!

Summary: Sixty Year Old Occult Rockers Rule!
Review: I saw BOC live a couple of times, the last in 1980. In the last year, I started listening to them again. Don't ask me why, but I just did. And then I started buying all their albums on CD, from their self-titled original through Cultosaurus Erectus (the band's best, in my opinion). I even tried a new release, Imaginos, which I found to be middling, and then finally bought Curse of the Hidden Mirror, a 2001 release. Curse is strong album--far from the group's finest, but still quite listenable (I especially like, Stone of Love). So what was I expecting when I bought this DVD. First, I hadn't realized just how old these guys are. Pushing 60, actually. Bloom's voice is dying, unfortunately. It's like his vocal chords can't push out a direct melody, like they're fighting him. It's sad and unfortunate. But let me tell you about Buck's guitar. Awesome. It's a privilege just to watch him play, with those up close shots on the fretboard. Unbelievably smooth, a tone which would make Carlos Santana weep, and unmatched raw speed without the silly Van Halen tricks. That, alone, is reason to buy this DVD. They rhythm section looks like they're ready to yawn at any moment, but they do a passable job. (The drummer is this caricature right out of Spinal Tap; the bassist is almost there, too.) The songs are still strong after many years, and this band still loves what they do. And, I've decided that I would give up a foot in height (Buck's only 5'2") to play like this guitar god. Keep rocking, guys!

Summary: BOC: Superior hard rock that eats everyone for LUNCH!!
Review: I saw this DVD last night at my BOC friend/guru's house, let me tell you I was not the same afterwards!! To begin w/ BOC is a totally misunderstood band. They are NOT the "American" Black Sabbath everyone seems to label them. To call them that is a total insult to Buck, Eric and the boys!! Black Sabbath is cool but are very simple and even cute most of the time: kooky/bonehead lyrics delivered in monotone by an unread fruitloop over evil/nasty guitar riffs-great for some people but not even close to where BOC is coming from. The main reason BOC didn't get the airplay in the US in the 70's is that they were way too sophisticated for radio and weren't singing about getting into cheerleaders' pants. Instead, they were well read science fiction fans (ie) Michael Moorcock's Elric series (Black Blade) and sang about the metaphysical, supernatural, afterlife and even some very touching love songs. But, I guess that makes them uncool? Whatever. BOC RULES and this DVD will prove it. In a nutshell, it's shot beautifully, the band sounds like they were in their early 20's, the set is great and BUCK DHARMA KICKS ... on this!! HE commands the audience,as you see in "Last Days of May" et al. Grab this DVD and be blown away. Now let's see a career of evil retrospective!!!

Review: I was at this show in Chicago and let me tell you these guys still rock.They are the BEST LIVE BAND in the world.Nobody rocks like they do. If your in to great guitar playing this is for you.Bucks'playing is even better than it used to be if you can believe that. Highlights are LDOM,Perfect Water and Red and Black. They are still kicking like they did in the 70,s. Forget that stuff they released in the 80,s Club Ninga,Imaginos and Revolution By Night. This DVD rocks-SPORT

Summary: This is Duster's Dust
Review: I was twelve years old (1975) when I first heard BOC. It was Secret Treaties, on my buddy's turntable, as we did illegal substances and pondered over the mystery and meaning of Subhuman, Astronomy, Dominance & Submission, Flaming Telepaths.... Man oh man, BOC rules. I bought OYFOOYK shortly after that and spent hours playing my guitar to Last Days of May and Subhuman. Most of my influence comes from these guys. And to set the record straight: I don't listen to anything past the first live album (OYFOOYK). The first three plus the OYFOOYK are such a perfect picture of their greatness. Just listen to what was the greatest album of 1972.....Tyranny & Mutation. Holy cow! Seven Screaming Diz-Busters, Quicklime Girl, and the wierdly wonderful Wings Wetted Down! Prog rock from Bouchard, sublime madness in their visions.
Don't Fear the Reaper is bubblegum pop. There, I've said it. Imiganos is an overworked Frankenstein of solo musicians sent in against its creator's wishes to add layer upon layer of tracks until you ended up with Buck, not Eric singing Astronomy.
But I should get to the point.
I have never seen them live. There, I've said it.
Until now.
This DVD blew me away!
There are coming to town in March.
I will be there.
Ther playing on this DVD needs to be seen to be believed. My God! Buck Dharma....Buck Dharma....Buck Dharma. Man oh man!

Summary: Well it's about time!
Review: I'm amazed that Blue Oyster Cult has not released a recent concert video before this. They are a great live act, and it's about time they jumped on the DVD bandwagon. Here's a quick summary of my opinions on this DVD:
*Picture Quality: 5 stars: Sharp and clear throughout. Excellent lighting; Simple but effective stage effects.
*Sound Quality: 4 stars: Mostly excellent. Buck's vocals on his first couple tracks seemed like they should have been brought out more in the mixing. Seemed slightly hard to hear. His guitar work is phenomenal and inventive as always, and those parts come through loud and clear. Mixing is a bit off in general from time to time, but nothing too distracting. My four star rating means excellent, but not perfect.
*Band Performance: 5 stars: They seem to be in good spirits, and all members are in fine form. Buck's guitar solos will still astound you, and they are always mixed properly for maximum effect. Allen Lanier even does a couple extended guitar solos that surprised me with how good they were.
*Packaging: 4 stars: Standard keep case with attractive folded sheet with a few photos inside. No liner notes. Missed those!
*DVD extras: 4 stars: The concert itself is 2 hours long. Then there is roughly 15 minutes of interviews with band members, which was only vaguely interesting, but nice to see anyway. First time I've ever seen Allen actually speak--He needs to speak more, as he was the most interesting to listen to. There's a behind the scenes thing too. About 10 to 15 minutes long. Again, only vaguely interesting, and you get to hear about one-third of "The Vigil" in rehersal through the documentary camera's microphone, which sounds awful, but still worth watching. The DVD's interface is a sore spot with me. The navigation is okay, but the damn "Don't Fear The Reaper" guitar intro notes are repeated ad nauseum, and sound tinny and obnoxious every time you go to the menu. A very minor gripe, but you'll see what I mean when you hear it. By far the best part of the extras though has to be the 'fan interview' section. It's only about 7 minutes total, but watching these fans do their things was extremely highly entertaining, and I would have LOVED to have seen another half hour of it!
Overall, this is a professionally made concert DVD that the band should be proud of. A must-have for both the fans and casual listeners alike. VERY glad I have it!

When I heard "The Curse of the Hidden Mirror" last year, I was thrilled because it sounded as good as they did 26 years ago. So, I checked out the previous album "Heaven Forbid" which also turned out to be another excellent album. Somewhere along the line, they have made a full come back and the current band is probably the best in their career. There's only Eric, Buck, and Allen from the original band but the new rhythm section with Bobby Rondinelli and Danny Miranda is fantastic! I was a bit dissappointed to find one of the best cd tracks "Astronomy" left out of the DVD, but the replacement song "Last Days of May" (not on the cd)is even better. The performance in this DVD is so hot that I've been watching it every night since I got it, and you never get tired of watching great musicians.
