Rating: Summary: Empowering, thought provoking, and soul depthening Review: Anyone to whom I introduce to JAMES comes away with an appreciation if not a love for the music they hear. Being a JAMES enthusiast, I have always had a relationship to the lyrics and luscious harmonizations that Tim Booth is known for. Seeing him sing these words, and experiencing the emotive power of his artistry had brought me to tears. That is how wonderful this DVD is, and how touching the song selection is.
Rating: Summary: Superb Review: As someone who was lucky enough to be at this concert last December, I was delighted that it was to be released on dvd. This was their last gig in the James' hometown of Manchester (with Tim Booth as singer - the band remains but won't be the same). An emotional but electric evening (for me anyway!), captured well by this dvd. It is good that American fans now get the chance to buy this dvd after it's release in the UK. For 20 years James have been one of Indie musics best kept secrets, but have a loyal fan base that would liken them to U2 or Simple Minds in terms of depth and quality. You'll know some of their songs, but probably didn't realise who it was. There are a whole raft of great tunes to be discovered. The dvd has a few other bits and bobs, music videos and talky bits etc. In short - a must have DVD !
Rating: Summary: James, Getting away with it Review: I had 2 cd's of James and Liked them alot but would not play the cd's every day. Than I got the DVD because I wanted to see how a concert would play on my new 53" in one word AWESOME I play this DVD every chance I get. Anybody who comes into my house leaves wanting to but this DVD. If I could give 10 stars for this DVD i would.
Rating: Summary: Breathtaking! Review: Like so many bands before them, JAMES were just to damn good for the average, American record-buyer. Musically and lyrically, they are, without a doubt, one of the finest bands of the 90's (though they emerged in the 80's, they really hit their stride in the early 90's). This concert, in their hometown of Manchester, was taped on the last night of their final tour with lead-singer, Tim Booth. What you will see here is a tremendously talented group of musicians performing highlights from an extremely impressive catalog of songs. Everyone knows "Laid," but it is some of the other gems here that really are worth checking out. In fact, if tracks like "Say Something," "Sometimes," "Vervaceous," "Out to Get You," "She's a Star," and "Getting Away with It," (too name just six!) fail to shock, amaze and move you all at once, then something is just not right with you (either that or you hit the mute button by accident!). The bonus features are pretty impressive too! In addition to the videos for "Laid," "Say Something," and "She's a Star," we are treated to an entertaining and informative Behind-the-Music-esque documentary on the band. As I mentioned, this concert was the emotional farewell to lead singer Tim Booth who left to pursue other interests. His smooth, passionate voice and charismatic stage personality will be sorely missed. As for what happens to the rest of the band, only time will tell. One hopes that a group of musicians this talented can continue on. And in the event they don't, at least we have this DVD to serve as a reminder of just how amazing they were.
Rating: Summary: ¡E X C E L E N T E! Review: Muy buen concierto por uno de los grupos que mas sabe de musica en vivo... quede muy conforme con James - Getting Away With It... Live
Rating: Summary: The Best of My Collection Review: Over the past couple of years, I have collected live and video DVD's from all of my favorite bands. To date, I have not found any of them to be more rewarding than the final concert from James. This is an outstanding DVD. It documents a band that was vastly under-rated in the United States. The video, sound, colors, and performance are better than any other DVD I have found (aside from maybe "Elevation" from U2). I have yet to find a person who, after being newly introduced to James, does not fall in love with their musical talent and creative lyrics. They are a band for the ages that hopefully some day will get their full dues. BUY THIS DVD! it is worth every penny...I guarentee it....
