Rating: Summary: Rage in their finest hour Review: Okay I am going to start with why I did only rate it 3 stars: 1: There is an error with this dvd, and the error is that the sound goes faster that the picture and the sound is changing sometimes from low to high. 2: There is slo motion every 30 second in every song. The music or the show is not bad but it is the sound quality that doesnt sound right. If you are an big Rage fan then you should get this one. I personaly have watched this dvd three times in three days and I love it so much.
Rating: Summary: get the other DVD, its better Review: I'm a huge rage fan, sadly, this DVD is just "okay". Good Things: * good set/song list. * good video/audio quality. Bad Things: * all footage is from one concert. * the venue was small and Rage seems to be lacking energy or dare I say, rage. * director resorts to ... MTV camera tricks to make up for the lack of energy. * Too much preaching in between songs with Zach overextending some analogous movements that don't really make sense. Its kind of embarrasing.
Rating: Summary: raw straightforward energetic rockFUNK! Review: I am 37 and I love these guys! There live performance will make you get up and take notice. A great band with a real message! The band is tight, precise and like watching a bomb go off! I can't get enough! Too bad they have broken up, but will always be a fan of Tom and Zach......should be interesting solo careers! Thanks Ratm. Will wait for the reunion........
Rating: Summary: Rage Against the Machine: Battle of Mexico City (2001) Review: This disc captures Rage Against the Machine during touring, in their first performance at Mexico City's Sports Pavilion. The band's support for various political causes in Mexico, especially the anti-government Zapatista movement makes this show very interesting. The band's political propaganda is more than well received with an electric energy that transfers right onto the DVD and into your living-room and should have the CIA very interested indeed. Unfortunately front-man Zack de la Rocha's political agenda is larger than Rage Against the Machine could ever offer. Slam-dancing and stage diving will do nothing to stop neo-liberal globalism, the likes of the I.M.F., and World Bank. Zack's struggle to end the poverty that the current system offers will thankfully take him away from the world of metal heads and crowd surfers to a more diversified audience. I wish him the best of luck. As an added bonus the disc includes interview with political intellectual Noam Chomsky, and revolutionarly leader Marcos.
Rating: Summary: Ultimate Rage Concert Video! Review: After getting that... video Revolution U.S.A, Rage fans have waited for another concert video release. Their first was an excellent concert of their first two albums, and also included a bonus cd of The Ghost of Tom Joad. 4 years later, we have finally gotten the ultimate Rage concert footage release: The Battle of Mexico City! This video is amazing! Rage was considered to be one of the great live performers of our time, and this video shows it. Every one of their shows, including this one, is so energy filled. Even moreso here, as this was Rage's first concert in Mexico, and was very big due to their support for various political causes. The video starts off with the 3rd single of their Battle of Los Angeles album, Testify. It is an awesome song, and really got the crowd going. Next came Guerilla Radio, which is undoubtedly the hit song off of BoLA. Both of these songs are excellent, and we get to hear the amazing guitar work of Tom Morello, who along with Buckethead and a few others, is the greatest guitarist of this time. Next up we have People of the Sun, which is a great song. The crowd went crazy for this song due to its subject matter about the political problems in Mexico. 3 more OK songs off of BoLA come next: Sleep Now in the Fire, Calm Like a Bomb, and Born of a Broken Man. At the halfway point, we get one of Rage's best songs ever: Bombtrack. Everything about this song is amazing, from the opening, to the hard, energy filled vocals, to the amazing guitar work. We then get my personal favorite RATM song: Know Your Enemy, simply amazing. Bulls on Parade, War Within a Breath, Killing in the Name, Zapata's Blood all follow up until the energy filled conclusion with Freedom. This is one amazing video, that includes all of Rage's best songs. Also included on the DVD is a documentary on the political status of Mexico and a nice photo gallery. So don't waste any time, testify now and buy the Battle of Mexico City!
Rating: Summary: this video rules Review: if you liked rage's THE BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES or any song froma past record you will love this video!!!! this is one of Rages best performances caught on tape. the intense & funky sounds will make u want to stand up and jump all over the place like Zach de la Rocha, i myself couldn't wait for my friend to leave the room so i could put on my guitar and play all the rage songs i know along with Tom Morello and look like a fool by myself.
Rating: Summary: What's with the slo-mo?? Review: From a performance standpoint, this DVD gets 5 stars. I truly believe that RATM was one of the best live acts around and they definitely show you why in this video. Zach and Tom's energy just jumps out and grabs you and you can also notice the intensity in the crowd that made this particular concert special. Now let me point out some of the downfalls of this video. One, those stupid slow-motion effects that they put in about every 15-30 seconds of each song. It takes away from the energy of the show. Especially when the band hits a crowd-moving riff or Zach start to belt out an intense chorus, the editors of the video ruin the moment with slow motion and delays that kind of leave you hanging. Very annoying. The propoganda, although a subject that drives Rage's music, takes away from the flow of the DVD. I think it's important to include these but please, put it in another chapter or section so that I'm not interrupted as I was headbanging or moshing to "Sleep Now In the Fire." One of the other things I would have liked to see is the crowd before and after the show. They gave a good description on the back-cover of how intense it was outside of the area, well, why not show that in the DVD? Why not show the crowds rioting or the excitement leading up to the show? This would have given the viewer an idea of the intensity that made this show very special. Also, some backstage interviews or footage would have been nice too. Aside from the performance, this DVD could have been better. I should also point out that I'm still disgruntled with the fact that Rage cancelled the three shows at the Fillmore that were supposed to be for their original live video. This DVD was more or less a "made-for-MTV" special which is why the downfalls listed above were not edited before it's release. Despite all of this, it's still a must buy for any RATM fan.
Rating: Summary: Rage Rocks Mexico City Review: When I watched this DVD for the first time I was impressed at how well it captured the feeling of being at the concert. I was at the Oakland concert on this tour and i remember what it was like wading through swarms of people to get close to Rage (to see how Tom was making the noises on the new album). In response to a previous review, which erroneously stated that the DVD was censored, there is more than one audio track on the disc, including a regular stereo and a 5.1 channel track. The stereo track plays bby default and is censored, but the 5.1 channel audio is NOT! All you have to do is change the audio track and you get to hear the concert without annoying silences every now and then.
Rating: Summary: excellent sequel to original rage video Review: this video contains some intense stuff, just like it should. the music ranges from the first album to the third, so there's something for everyone. my only problem was the wierd camera stoppage, sometimes the footage stops and then picks up several frames later, and at some key points. you get used to it though, great buy.
