Rating: Summary: Easily As Good As Closure Review: Nine Inch Nails live is an experience, and thats the only way to describe it. Trent is such an incredible performer, he may write songs for himself, but when he performs, its for the fans. The DVD is excellent at capturing the energy of a NIN live show, the camera angles often showing the spontaneous violence thats become part of every NIN tour. All in all, this DVD is a worthy addition to any NIN fans collection, and a damn good DVD for anyone else too!
Rating: Summary: Could have been more... Review: You haven't experienced NIN till you've experienced "Trent and the boys" LIVE in concert. If you've never had the chance to do that, "...Could Have Been" definitely is the next best thing. This DVD is from the 2000 Fragility Tour. I must say I was blown away by the DVD. It contains vivid, crystal clear images of Trent's energy, creativity, and rage. This is mixed with amazing, powerful digital audio -- 1000% better than any bootleg you could get. If you’ve seen or heard previous live recordings of NIN, you will be amazed at how much better this looks and sounds.Awesome DVD of an awesome concert!!! It has a good mix of songs from every major NIN release (of course a lot are from “Fragile”). Even if you are a casual NIN fan, it has the songs you like – and amazing footage of Trent doing what he does best. For you hard-core fans, this is labeled HALO SEVENTEEN (Strangely, like WITT, “Could Have Been” has multiple releases under the same HALO#; 2 DVD sets and 2 CD sets). The concert includes: Disc 01 "Terrible Lie" "Sin" "March of the Pigs" "Piggy" "The Frail" "The Wretched" "Gave Up" "Le Mer" "The Great Below" "The Mark Has Been Made" "Wish" "Complication" Disc 02 "Suck" "Closer" "Head Like a Hole" "Just Like You Imagined" "Starf*ckers, Inc." "Hurt" It contains several great and unique features. First, IT HAS CAMERA ANGLES!!! Remember the hype; "...In the future all movies will allow you to choose different camera angles for each scene...". I’ve never been able to do that till now. From "La Mer" to "The Mark" you can choose to see either mostly close-ups of the band members (angle 1), or the whole stage to see the video/light show (angle 2). Not huge, but a nice touch. Also, it has some helpful setup menus to help you adjust your audio/video for best viewing. Everything contained in this two-disk set is worthy of 5-stars. However, as you see, I only gave it 4-stars. This is because of what was NOT on the disks. If you weren't at one of the concerts you may not notice there are at least two songs missing. The DVD is said to be of the US tour. The concert I saw in Ohio began with an AWESOME version of "Somewhat Damaged" (you should have been there!), and the second last song was TDTWWA. BOTH are missing. Even worse, for the life of me I can't figure out WHY this is on 2 disks. The whole concert was under two hours. The first DVD only plays for about an hour, and then you need to SWITCH DISKS – yikes! Except for a short audio commentary (not from Trent, but from the guy who shot the video displayed on the screens at the concert), some still photos from the concerts, and the setup functions and camera angles I spoke of earlier, there aren’t that many “extras”. In my opinion, even if this is enough to fill two disks, there is no excuse for requiring me to switch disks in the middle of the concert! I don’t remember switching disks in the middle of the 3-hour “Saving Private Ryan”… All that said, I am very glad I got it. It is a GREAT DVD!
Rating: Summary: Like being there, without the sweat Review: Trent Reznor, Rob Sheridan and crew have done a fantastic job in putting together this two-DVD set. By shooting, recording, editing and authoring the whole DVD themselves, they're able to get the viewer as close to the music and the experience as possible - without intermediaries. Even if you aren't a heavy fan of NIN, this is a great DVD for your collection - a work of art that let's you really experience the quality of DVD and great surround sound. And All That Could Have Been and the Beastie Boys Anthology are the definitive music DVDs for this young format, like The Matrix is/was for movies. The discs are available in Dolby Digital and DTS (know your system before you buy), and you really notice the care put into the production. I am partial to the slower and more mellow NIN songs such as The Great Below, which really get shown off by the surround sound. Video quality is decent - all digital from filming through editing and distribution. There are a few tracks with angle changes and some cool gimmicks, but the strength of the set is in the overall concert experience. The packaging is typically well-designed NIN, with a great message from Trent Reznor viewable by placing a clear plastic bookmark with faint text over a secret-decoder style background.
Rating: Summary: "It was almost what it felt like being there." Trent Reznor Review: The title to this review speaks volumes about this DVD. The quality of all live footage, audio (Dolby 5.1 and DTS) and video, reproduced on this DVD is amazing. It is obvious that alot of time and money was spent to recreate the atmosphere that is a Nine Inch Nails concert. The most appealing of these features is the multi-angle section (La Mer, The Great Below, and The Mark has been Made). During this set the band has just finished pounding you with "Gave Up" and the crowd is ready to explode, when 3 screens appear and the crowd is calm entranced in the brilliant imagery playing behind the band. The multi-angle gives you the option to see the stage from afar, absorbing the show like many of the fans did that night. If you went to the show or wanted to go to the show, you will love this DVD. If you are a live music fan, you will love this DVD. I feel extremely confident saying this is the best live dvd music performance I have ever seen.
Rating: Summary: All that could have been is lacking "BackStage" Review: Well I have been waiting forever for this DVD. I have been a NIN fan since "Pretty Hate Machine" as far as the packageing is concerned it was VERY well done. The live show was EXCELLENT to say the least. I felt like I was onstage with Trent and the boys. The song selections were good, and of course like i said before the performances were EXCELLENT. This DVD is missing something though like backstage content and interview content. If your looking for a DVD performance of live NIN this is your DVD but if you want more than just live footage I would suggest "Closure" it has ALOT more content.

Rating: Summary: Absolutely Mind Blowing!! Review: I've been waiting to see this DVD for a long time now and believe me when I tell you the wait was well worth it! This DVD that Trent put together is absolutely mind blowing! The whole atmosphere with all the differect digital cameras through out the arenas is put together in such a mood that it makes you feel that your right their. The DTS version is so powerful and clean that it blows the doors off of my house! I have a lot of DVD's and this one is by far the best sounding one I have. The performances captured is just jaw dropping! Trent never looked so good and never looked so mysterious. He is just someone I could watch over and over again not only becuase of his stage presence but just becuase of his overall energy and destructive ways on stage. His performance just grips your heart and doesn't let go until the very end. Never mind rating this DVD 5 stars, I rate it a 10!!!!
Rating: Summary: Nine Inch Extortionists Review: For some strange reason, the DVD version of AATCHB is hacked up into two parts, while the VHS exists on a single tape (and is more worth your while if you're into this stuff). Well, why is that? Because retail stores in chain shopping malls can charge upwards of [price] (no joke) for a two-disc DVD but not for a double VHS. That, and the general greed of the music industry plays a part (ever notice how VHS videos from mainstream bands run 60 minutes or less and retail for [price] or more?). Would I be complaining if this set was actually any good? Maybe not, but just look at what everyone's 3-year wait and high hopes produced: well-edited concert footage, granted, and... a nice package, sure... BUT what about the extras? One of the reasons DVD technology is hyped to the skies is because of the amount of supplements you can stuff on a disc, but this one is dry as a bone. This pales in comparison to the "Closure" video, even, and marks a de-evolution in the quality that one used to expect from NIN (although, to be fair, they haven't put out anything of merit since 1994). This is for anyone who hasn't branched out from Mr. Reznor's Empire of Gloom yet (don't worry, one day you will)...
Rating: Summary: For the serious fan, not the faint-of-heart Review: This DVD packs a punch as only NIN can. Intensity ebbs and flows as it should, and this feels (to me) like the live version of The Fragile. Sure, old songs are worked in all over, but it seems the major "plot points" of the show are newer material. The overall flow of the concerts is kept intact - though footage from many shows is tied together. The only way you'd know it was not a single show would be the minor inconsistencies between clips, for example the guitarist jumping from one side of the stage to the other instantly. The sound quality is great, and the video quality is excellent in some parts. When the shot is close to trent and well-lit, clarity is excellent. At times when there is little light, the picture tends to get a bit blurry. Very little MPEG2 artifacting is noticeable. The entire series was filmed on MiniDV cameras, then edited with FinalCut Pro. That in itself is rather profound to me - Professional video editing is really in reach for normal people now. Anyhow, I would recommend this for NIN fans, but others will not be as interested. Then again, I think that's true for most live recordings - they're for the fans more than the casual listener.
Rating: Summary: so, this is what it feels like... Review: i have never seen nine inch nails perform live before, but i've always been pretty familiar with their work. tonight i viewed this video at my university's movie theatre, but i could have sworn i had a flying seat over the stage and the audience at the actual show. this is a quality video, with amazing shots of all five band members, the stage setups and lighting, and the energetic audience. the power of this performance is overwhelming, i even got sucked into the songs i didn't know or recognize. this video offers many unsung hits and huge favorites from "the downward spiral" and "the fragile." it was refreshing that in between trent's bouts of madness over industrial guitar and drums, he shared some amazing instrumental tracks from "the fragile" with the audience (including wonderful versions of "la mer" and "complicated"). even though i'm sure there's nothing like being there, i feel like i got an excellent idea of what experiencing nine inch nails is like, and this video is going on my permanent rotation.
