Rating: Summary: A Great Performance.... Review: Arthur Lee and the original lineups of Love generated three unique albums of music in the late sixties. I hesitate to use the word "Classic", because it's a word that's been overused in the rock idiom, and can mean almost anything. In contrast, what Arthur Lee, Bryan MacLean, Ken Forissi, John Echols, Michael Stuart and Snoopy Pfilster did was revolutionary. This is a great dvd from start to finish. What's amazing is that every nuance of the original recording "Forever Changes" is present throughout the presentation, as if the order of the music is an exacting presentation of something more on the order of classical music. Which is great. Lee gives a good, solid performance. It's interesting to see him once again, after all this time. His voice hasn't changed much, surprisingly. The band, Baby Lemonade, provides musicianship on this disc which is so much superior to previous "Live" Love recordings, which, even with MacLean, could be somewhat sloppy. This is one music dvd that was well worth waiting for. "Forever Changes" is an album that I've probably listened to thousands of times, and this dvd more than does the original recording justice.

Rating: Summary: nothing better Review: Before i get started the first reviewer to this disc,daddy-007 states he found an extra song in an easter egg. Please,Please chime in on this review page and let us know how to find it.My only comment on this superb dvd is that this music has been with me since the release in 1968 and is the defining piece of music that has tracked my life.I travelled to LA just to see this band on the strip but nothing prepared me for forever changes.I hope arthur records again and Johnny echols surfaces or we at least find out what happen to him and the rest of the band.Imagine if bryan McClean were alive and had reunited with arthur in this band. Not to knock the new love line up which is flawless. If you never heard this release please dont let another day go by without Love in your life.
Rating: Summary: You Gotta love LOVE Review: Forever Changes is forever in our hearts. Yes, us LOVE fans are still out there and thank Arthur for his making this all possible. Rating: Summary: awesome concert Review: i bought this dvd based on the two previous reviews. they did not mislead me, this is an awesome concert, i am so glad to have purchased it, i watched it through twice at first sitting. i grew up in LA in the late 60's and never saw Love live and have always regretted it. this is as close as i will ever get to doing so, and to tell the truth, today's version is AOK++ by me. how they put this band and orchestra section together must be a story in itself. arthur lee + dedicated rock musicians (guys you hit the note so very well, thank you) + dedicated horn section (you blare so well, thank you) + dedicated string section (you string so well, thank you) = one for the ages (you all have gifted us, thank you). thank you all! i also want to say that the production and editing of this concert is top notch. i can't recommend this dvd highly enough. arthur, you rock!
Rating: Summary: Arthur Lee is Review: I have been listening to Love since they 1st came out, my Brother told me to buy Da Capo, I was 10. I have loved Love ever since. Never got to see them in the sixties, I was too young. In my 20's, I was into the punk scene and Arthur Lee played this dump in L.A. somewhere (they tore it down a couple of months later) with a bunch of punk bands put on by K rock. Darby Crash's band w/ Pat Smear (I forgot there name) played first and sucked. This place was a old Hotel and my friend and I went through the place and ended up in a Kitchen, we were hanging out there so we didn't have to listen to Darby's band, cause they sucked ! So anyway Arthur Lee comes walking in where we were, all by himself, he says is this back stage, I can't find backstage, so we got to sit and talk to Arthur for a few, but he didn't make any sense, I asked if he was on Acid, he never said, but he was real cool, great guy. When they played that night they were so good, and all I could say to everyone was that was the greatest concert ever. For the next couple of years he played at the Wiskey (with Bryan) a bunch of times and all the local clubs. I even got to sit on the stage and sing with Arthur one time ! So now a lot of years later I took my wife to see this new Love at the Belly-Up and it was so good, Arthur still has it !!! He said we are tuning up to do this concert in England to make a DVD, etc. It was the Best !!! Of course I bought the CD and the DVD, the only thing is after seeing him live myself, it just falls a little flat, he sang so much better when I saw him than in this concert and the band played better, I think they were a little uptight with the camara, trying to not make mistakes and look good. Anyway I Love Arthur Lee and anything he does is alright with me, Thanks for listening......
Rating: Summary: A Perfect DVD Review: I have owned Forever Changes in various formats since 1968, even a rare Muntz four-track cartridge, it pushed Pet Sounds and Sgt. Pepper out of my top album of all time list after about the 4th playing..Im 55 now and parts of it reflect my life since the 60s, found the DVD strictly by accident and almost shook getting it open, its the BEST reproduction of the original possible, with players now not even born when it first came on vinyl..If youre a Love fan from way back or just recently, THIS is the DVD to own, the damn thing gives me chills like it did in 68..
Rating: Summary: A treat for Love fans Review: I saw Arthur Lee and Love live twice in 2002 (once in San Francisco & once in LA) & despite the fact that Arthur was somewhat hoarse at one show & limping from a bathtub accident at the other, they were both outstanding, high-energy shows that left me very well-satisfied. The concert on this DVD was very different (though no less satisfying) than either of those shows - due to the addition of strings & horns, the fact that Arthur's voice was much stronger and purer, and that the band was much tighter and more in control. In Dolby 5.1 surround (& yes, played LOUD), the sound quality is superb - crystal clear & very lush. As a matter of fact, except for the audience's very enthusiastic response, it sounds more like a fine studio recording than a live show. And while it's not a note for note replication of the classic Forever Changes album, it comes very, very close. Though "You Set The Scene" has always been my favorite song from the original album, I found "The Red Telephone" to be the most moving & spirited song on the DVD. It's remarkable that the tag lines - "They're locking him up today & throwing away the key, I wonder who it will be tomorrow, you or me?" are so chillingly resonant in light of the "Patriot" Act and the current anti-terrorist hysteria. The visuals are fine - nothing flashy or especially innovative, just a document of the show done in a very straightforward way that complements the honesty of the music appropriately. As far as the bonus materials go, the extra tracks are mostly very good (though I found "7 & 7 is" to be a little too low energy, which is a shame for such a fierce, powerful song), the interview with Arthur (primarily about his youth & early days with the original Love lineup) provides some insights into a very unique & creative talent, & the tour documentary gives us a perspective from the other folks involved (the band, their manager, etc.). It would have been nice to have included some audience reaction too, but that's a very minor quibble. Who would have thought that Arthur Lee could come back after more than 30 years, find the perfect band and treat his longtime fans to such an incredible recreation of his masterpiece? Forever Changes was one of the most beautiful, honest & creative works to come out of the psychedelic era and this DVD gives it fresh new life. A must-have for any fan & a great opportunity to discover a unique talent for those unfortunate enough to never have experienced Love before.
