Rating: Summary: PHENOMENAL! Review: The only reason to give this DVD LESS than five stars is if you don't like DM OR A. Corbijn. Loaded with imaginative content, a HUGE song selection from the Exciter tour, plus TONS of bonus features! It looks and sounds amazing. If you have a quality soundsystem hooked up to your TV/DVD player, then get ready to be blown away by the pristine sound of this recording. As if all this wasn't enough (DMode fans can be VERY demanding) the packaging is far above that of any other DVD, musical or not, that I've ever held in my hands. If you are a Depeche Mode fan, you'll want this whether you own a DVD player or not. Gorgeous!
Rating: Summary: DM live -- Dave Gahan is back! Review: I have NOT seen this DVD but am anxiously awaiting its release. I did see the Exciter tour twice last year (Portland, OR & Mountain View, CA) and both shows were absolutely fabulous. Dave, back healthy and happy, carries the show. In his days of heroin, DM was known to perform lousy live shows (saw one I'd rather forget in Devore, CA...). But I've seen DM a total of 5 times and they're batting .800 on the scale of awesome live shows. ...But now that it's coming out on DVD... [An EXCELLENT addition to anyone's collection].
Rating: Summary: Amazing DVD of Mode Review: Well, the first viewing of this DVD shows once again that Depeche Mode can do amazing things! Their concerts are amazing, and captured eloquently by Anton Corbijn and brought to you in AC-3 digital sound and video on the DVD. The second disk is filled with all my favorites, including the amazing projections that were used on the tour. The only drawback is that they didn't do this on previous tours! If you happened to catch the Pay-per-view, you still have not experienced this the way it should be!
Rating: Summary: A must have for any music fan. Review: This is just an excellent dvd. Having been a huge Depeche Mode fan since back in 84 ,DM are still on top of thier game. Anton Corbin captures Dm at its finest. The camera shots are unbelievable. One thing i loved about thier recent tour and this dvd, they didnt bring all thier mainstream hits. They settled for a more darker and less commercailo set of songs. The old hit songs they did sing the managed to redue them for the better. This is a must have not only for DM fans but for any music fans collection.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: Amazing show featuring a wide selection of songs from most of Depeche Mode's albums. Featuring The Dead of Night, Sweetest Condition, Halo, Walking in My Shoes, Dream On, When he Body Speaks, Waiting for the Night, It Doesn't Matter Two (one of the only places this was performed), Breath, Freelove, Enjoy the Silence, I Feel You, It's No Good, Personal Jesus, Home, Condemnation (also one of the few places this song was performed ont he tour) Black Celebration and Never Let Me Down Again. This is an amazing representation of the powerful 2001 Exciter tour and is easily recommended. The DVD also features an amazing second disc loaded with special features including "Sister of the Night" performed live in Stockholm one of the few places it was performed
Rating: Summary: Depeche Mode never fails to electrify! Review: One night in paris is definitely a night to be remembered. After 20 years, Depeche Mode never fails to electrify and surprise their fans with every performance. Their music continues to evolve in every trend that has come and gone. They rendered their old songs like BLACK CELEBRATION, NEVER LET ME DOWN AGAIN and ENJOY THE SILENCE with some new arrangement to compliment the alternative trend. They surely secured their place as the best band with the best act in the world! A must for every DM fan and for all alternative music enthusiasts!
Rating: Summary: It's like being front row center! Review: If you never been to a Depeche Mode Concert, here is your chance. David Gahan gives a proformance of a life time playing there greatest hits of all time. This DVD provide great close ups and interesting views. I LOVE IT!
Rating: Summary: Um, I was surprised. Review: I've been a DM fan since my high school days in the late 80's. However, I've never seen them live. All though the past 15 years or so, they've remained the top band I listen to consistently.
If this show is any indication of their live performances... I'm glad I haven't wasted the money to see them live. Was it just me or was Dave replaced with some guy who thought it would be a good idea to sing the songs like he's in a night club in Vegas? Vocals that are strained, flat and sometimes downright off key, not to mention really... just awful in some senses.
The vocals would be flat as hell... then he'd take off whirling like a dervish around stage. How about putting some of that energy into actually singing? Oh well.
Martin did look downright pained at times, but sounded as beautiful as I expected. And as another reviewer mentioned, there seemed to be no connection, not between Dave and Martin, Dave and the other band members on stage, or with the audience.
The quality of the DVD overall is good, no complaints with that.
But I think I'll go back to my CD's and hope this was all just a bad dream.
Rating: Summary: Great tracklisting...presentation is somewhat disappointing Review:
This DVD had all the possibilities of being Depeche Mode's best one yet. To me, it had the best tracklisting (although a few more older songs would have been nice) of any of their previously released DVDs.
However, other than the packaging which is very nice (and almost identical to the 'Devotional' DVD packaging - just with different colors), this DVD is a disappointment to me. For one, it seems like 3 guys on stage (really just 2: Martin and Dave) doing there own thing - and it doesn't seem like there's any connection between them...ever. Also, the stage show is not nearly as impressive as previous DM shows.
All of these wrongs could have been righted however, if only the singing was up to par, but Dave just doesn't give his typical awesome vocal performance. He seems more interested in satisfying his ego of watching the fans adore him than he is in singing the songs. Some of them are just horrible, including 'Black Celebration' which really upsets me because that song is one of my favorite DM songs of all time.
It's a decent experience I guess, but with all that it could have been - it's very disappointing.
Rating: Summary: Fair but some what strained Review: Sound: This particular performance lacks the DM energy that I have come to love. David Gahan sounds as if he is straining to achieve the notes that once came with ease. This is especially true when DM's older material. I know this can be attributed to his age but it's just depressing because this may be considered DM's last stay. Visuals: Anton Corbijn's camera work once again appeases the senses. The DM backdrop provides sharp images and Corbijn's camera work capures them in their top form. But, it is all too apparent that DM lacks the physical energy of yesteryear. They are getting on in their years so once again age has taken a step or two away from David Gahan's ability to perform up to par. Notes: In short, I would recommend any one of their other live performances on DVD over this one. I found that 'Devotional', which came out just after 'One Night in Paris', to be considered redeming in nature. The 'Devotional' performance is dated (Faith & Devotion Tour 1993) and the picture suffers as a result but, both DM's sound and stage presence are electric.
