Rating: Summary: A Close to Perfect Live Document of a Great Band Review: On the surface, this DVD would seem like the ideal testament to Cheap Trick's longevity and diversity. And, a couple of flaws aside, it is indeed close to ideal. Filmed in their hometown of Rockford, IL in the summer of 1999, this concert was a special occasion marking the 25th anniversary of the band. CT is undoubtedly one of the finest, most underrated American bands. Their music is timeless, impossible to pigeonhole into one genre, and they have influenced so many others. Sadly, the picutre quality of this DVD is far from ideal. Too often it is grainy, fuzzy and the ligthing appears to be too fleshed out. However, the band sounds terrific and what a set-list their is! Just about all the hits are played ("I Want You To WAnt Me," "Surrender," "Dream Police," "She's Tight," etc), as well as some rarities and a few fun covers thrown in. Their are guest appearances by Art Alexakis of Everclear, Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, and Jon Brandt, who was CT's bass player in the mid-80's. More impressive, though, are the guest appreances of the children or Robin Zander and Rick Nielson, who join the band for a set. Of particular interest is the apperance of Zander's daughter who beautifully sings vocals with her father on his solo track "Time Will Let You Know." This is a major moment in the concert! If you can get past the mediocre, at best, picture quality, then there is much to enjoy here. The band sounds tight, intense, and terrific! More importantly, their love of playing together is quite obvious here. Not many bands have this good of chemistry after a quarter-century together!
Rating: Summary: Should of been better Review: SILVER is an average concert DVD that in my opinion should have been alot better. We are talking about one of the greatest rock bands that has ever played a note and the DVD leaves something to be desired. If the concert was a homecoming in Rockford, how come at the beginning does Robin say like hello Wisconsin. At other times, the audio isnt all that great. Cheap Trick has consistently made great music over the last 25 years, and the production of this very special night should have been alot better. Some of the saving graces are they actual music, even with bad sound quality, you can still hear the greatness of the songs. The interview with that band in which they give us the history of the band and of some of the songs that are on the DVD is also a saaving grace. All in all, this is just an average concert DVD. If you are a hardcore CHEAP TRICK fan than you will love having this in your collection.
Rating: Summary: This is what Cheap Trick is all about... Review: This is a fantastic DVD that includes at least one song from every single album. Whether you are a fan of the old stuff or the new, you will find something here to satisfy you. Some of the highlights include the guest appearances of artists like Slash, Billy Corgan, Jon Brant as well as Nielson and Zander offspring. The sweetest moment on this is when Robin does a duet with his daughter of "Time Will Let You Know". This left my wife in tears. If you only get one music DVD at all this year, you have to make it this one.
Rating: Summary: The history of Cheap Trick in one concert Review: This is an awesome concert, and the full range of Cheap Trick's musical styles is showcased in front of their most loyal fans from thier home town. You can tell the band is enjoying themselves, and this makes the concert all the more exciting. My personal favorite is the high energy song "You're All Talk." Powerful, but lesser known songs from their later period, like "Woke Up With a Monster" and "Never Had a Lot to Lose" also get their time to shine on stage. In fact, the song selection is a history of Cheap Trick; indeed, a special treat is the short return of bassist Jon Brandt to play some of the 80's material. If you like the band's earlier songs, get "Live in Australia" or "Music For Hangovers," but if you want to get a taste of the full musical range of this amazing band, then this is the DVD for you. Buy this DVD and Surrender to The Dream Police because That 70's Song band is Gonna Raise Hell until I Can't Take It, so Stop This Game and light The Flame, Ain't That a Shame!
