Rating: Summary: Making the best with what you have! Review: Coming behind the coattails of legendary brothers, the youngest Jackson had to carve out her distinctive niche. And, man, did "Miss Jackson" do just that. Saddled with two of the hottest producers in the business, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Jackson released the landmark album "Rhythm Nation 1814" in 1989 and the critics and the public went wild. The platinum-selling album spawned no less than seven hit singles, all with accompanying videos that only added to their success. This video compilation is the perfect "trip down memory lane" as Jackson and her superb troupe of dancers prance, shimmy, grind, and cavort to the title cut, "Miss You Much", "Love Will Never Do (Without You)", "Alright" (with guest performances from Cyd Charisse, the Nicholas Brothers, Cab Calloway, and Heavy D), "Escapade" with its carnival influences", "Black Cat", "Lonely", and "Come Back to Me" with its Parisian background. Top-notch direction from Dominec Sena, Peter Smillie, Julian Temple, Wayne Isham and the late Herb Ritts allowed the singer to shine as only she could in each mini-spectacle.

Rating: Summary: Janet Rocks! (of course) Review: I got this video almost 9 years ago (it's been awhile). I mainly wanted it because I had seen some of the videos for the "Rhythm Nation" album on TV before, but not all of them. When I was finally able to watch it (we had to get a new VCR), I was not disappointed. After all these years, this is still my favorite videotape to watch. Every video on it is unique in its own way. From the serious mood of "Rhythm Nation" to the slow jam "Come Back To Me" and the playful "Escapade," you see Janet at her best. My favorite song is "Escapade," and the video compliments it well. "Alright" is simply a tight video. One of my favorites. And who can forget "Love Will Never Do (Without You)"? We got a glimpse of the sexy Janet that we now know today. If you are a Janet fan, and "Rhythm Nation" is your favorite album, then GET THIS TAPE! You will not be disappointed! I still have to get the Design of a Decade and Janet videos, but the Rhythm Nation Compilation definitely satisfies my Janet cravings!

Rating: Summary: Janet's Rhythm Nation Makes a Return...on DVD...at Last! Review: I have been waiting for this Janet title, among others, to be released on DVD. I was ecstatic to finally get it because I had all but worn my tape out. It is even more outstanding on the DVD because of the instant video selection, and of course, the sound. It is excellent. Wow! It sounds even better than the Rhythm Nation CD. I kid you not! If you were a Rhythm Nation fan, or if you are a Janet fan, this is a must have. It is by far Janet's most versatile collection of videos from a singular album. Get it today, and you won't be sorry. Miss You Much, Rhythm Nation, Escapade, Black Cat, Alright, Come Back to Me, and Love Will Never Do (Without You)...need I say more? You NEED this DVD. The "All For You" Special Edition CD/DVD hits at the end of this November, and the "Design of a Decade" DVD hits in early December. Be on the look-out for all of Janet's best! Enjoy the "Rhythm Nation Compilation" DVD in the meanwhile. It could not be better!
Rating: Summary: wonderful! Review: I'm glad this set of videos is on dvd. A lot of people were expecting "Control" to be a fluke, a one time deal----that Janet would fade into obscurity. When she released "Rhythm Nation" however, all those skeptics saw what her fans had come to realize...Ms. Jackson is the Queen of video making. With sharp, unforgettable choreography (the title video, especially) and a variety of different songs (the ballad, "Come Back to Me", the rocking "Black Cat, and the sexy, "Love Will Never Do") Janet claimed the pop charts for over a year as well as spots on MTV and VH1. From the pop start of the video with "Miss You Much" to Janet's blooming discovering of her sexual intensity in "Love Will Never Do" (which continued over and was the main theme of her next effort, "Janet") we see an artist continuing to grow visually as well as musically. I never get tired of watching Janet's videos because they are so well made...like little movies. This dvd is a must for the serious Janet fan and a good buy for anyone who likes fun music and some unbelievable dancing.

Rating: Summary: Lil'kowtown's favorite music video to this day. Review: If Lil' kowtown still enjoys this, it must be something Big Kowtown (Bka, this reviewer and Lil's Dad) must comment on. Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation 1814" came out in '88-'89 or thereabouts. All the hits--"Miss You Much", the anthemic "Rhythm Nation", "Escapade", "Alright", "Black Cat", "Love Will Never Do Without You" (directed by fashion photographer Herb Ritts) are all here. In these vids it shows that Janet is as good or better than her big brother when it comes to dance moves. In "Miss You Much" and "Escapade" the choreography seems to be interpreting the lyrics of the jams...and there is much to see and hear in each. Plus there's the Velvet One, herself. Like Heavy D says in the preview of the tape, Janet became a role model because of "Control" but it was the "Rhythm Nation" work that made her one enduring star. That's why I think Lil' kowtown loves this tape.
