Description:
To Sammy Hagar, rock & roll has always been one long party. His whole career (Montrose, solo, Van Halen, solo again) has been a paean to getting drunk, getting laid, and getting up the next day to do it again. That's all Cabo Wabo Birthday Bash Tour is: a document of Sammy's two-hour rockin' birthday party. Onstage, Hagar hosts the world's loudest party, and when he doesn't have a guitar or a mic in his hands, there's probably a margarita. Even if there are too many shots of fans hamming it up for the cameras, the concert itself is a blast, with Hagar and his crack band, the Waboritas, cranking out a 22-song retrospective of the Red Rocker's career, from the early days to his 2000 release, Ten 13. For the curious, the quartet of "Van Hagar"-era tunes--"Top of the World," "Finish What Ya Started," "Why Can't This Be Love," and "Cabo Wabo"-- rock as hard as they did with a certain Eddie Van Halen by Hagar's side. Extra features on the second DVD give fans a teasing 10-minute glimpse of Hagar's Cabo Wabo cantina in Mexico and an hourlong interview with the man himself. The DTS and 5.1 Dolby Digital sound is, of course, head-bangingly loud; what else would you want from the ultimate partier? --Kevin Filipski
