Rating: Summary: Bjork the Video Vixen! Review: "Volumen" charts Iceland's most popular pop export's first five years as a recording artist in the English language ... and what a first five years! Released in 1999, the video compilation includes Bjork's first collaboration with world-renowned director Michel Gondry, the promo for "Human Behaviour", up to her freaky transformation into a blue polar bear for Paul White's "Hunter". Tellingly missing however, are Alexander McQueen's "Alarm Call" (a rainforest adventure with Bjork stranded on a raft) and Chris Cunningham's immortal "All Is Full Of Love" (you should know about that though), both of which can be found on a rare Japanese special edition, whilst "All" became the first pop promo to be released as a DVD single. That said, the videos here more than make up for the missing ones in their audacity and their sparkling greatness. All of the videos sparkle together with a great eclecticism that perfectly captures what Bjork is able to achieve in her compositions, and they are all memorable in the different quirks the star gives of herself. Gondry's efforts (the refreshingly old-fashioned "Human Behaviour", the Gilliam-esque "Army Of Me", the timeless black-and-white hues of "Isobel", the colour explosions of "Hyperballad", the sweeping "Joga" and the filmic saga of "Bachelorette") are amazing in their evocation of colour and storytelling, and cement greater things to expect from the Frenchman, who went on to make "Human Nature" with Patricia Arquette, Rhys Ifans and Tim Robbins. Other gems include Stephane Sednaoui's "Big Time Sensuality", every single shot of which could be put on display at an art museum and also giving a hint that Bjork's performances are just as, if not more than, wonderful than the videos themselves. Spike Jonze's "It's Oh So Quiet" still stands as a shining monument of the titular chanteuse's talent, backflips and all, impressing even Lars von Trier, who went on to direct her in her film debut/swansong "Dancer in the Dark". John Kricfalusi, who ended up getting fired from his own creation, Nickelodeon cartoon "Ren & Stimpy", for being too dirty and vile, and Bjork join forces for "I Miss You", and the results are just as colourful and funnily sinister as the best "R&S" 'toons. And the collection comes to a close with Bjork metamorphosing into a giant blue polar bear in "Hunter", courtesy of Digital Domain, who did the special effects for "Titanic", and White of 'MeCompany', who were responsible for a lot of Bjork's artwork for her albums and videos. Roll on "Volumen 2", with "Alarm Call", "All Is Full Of Love", and the gorgeous 'Vespertine Video Trilogy' - the liquidic beauty of "Hidden Place", the raw, nakedly emotional "Pagan Poetry" and the trancendent "Cocoon"!
Rating: Summary: a bjork staple Review: This DVD is wonderful becuase I've been a Bjork fan for many years and more than half of the videos are new to me. This is definitely worth your money because it is rare and very creative.
Rating: Summary: Oh Bjork, how we love you so... Review: This is a video collection housing all of her videos up to (and not including) "All is Full of Love." The menu options allow you to choose which video you want to play... or allows you to just run them sequentially. The duck that will become Bjork's logo is debut-ed here. =) It's a beutiful DVD with beautiful menus. The color looks fantastic. The sound quality is great! (I just hope she puts out a part 2 soon, instead of putting each video on its own DVD - All is Full of Love, Hidden Place, Cocoon, etc.)
Rating: Summary: .appropriately varied. Review: makes me want to slither into the mind and asked: how much does an artist have control over her aesthetic, presented multi-mediaciously? ooh, god, even the early ones are good. some get weighed down and mundane, like stupid movie clip ones, and then routine dance ones. but it makes me want to take up some cardboard and colors and i want michael gondry in my cupboard. so original and successful translation from mind to tangible aesthetic.
Rating: Summary: Definitely a Keeper... Review: This DVD has all of Bjork's music videos up till "Hunter." all clear and sharp, and ready to be visualized! The only thing that would have made this DVD even better, would have been some extras. Maybe some Bjork interviews before the video, or some commentaries. Anyways, it is still great, and definitely needs to be in your Bjork collection

Rating: Summary: a must have for any new or old bjork fan!! Review: This is a great DVD if you like Bjork, its really cool and if you you dont like her get it anyway the videos are amazing and visualy stimulating
Rating: Summary: Well worth it Review: If you are not a bjork fan, you will most likely find these images confusing and nonsensical. Hell, even if you are a bjork fan you probably will. Its the driving force behind almost all of bjorks videos, a very surreal alternate dimension feel, played out like forgotten dreams. It starts with "Human behavior" and immediately sends you right into the bizzare bjork world. Every time I watch it I invent some kind of new plot in my head or at least some way of tying the images together. I can't take my eyes off the screen even though I've seen it all too many times. The video for "Human Behavior" is very similar in style to that of "Army of Me" and a few others directed by Michel Gondry. My favorite would have to be "Hyperballad". I've been listening to the song so much that it was amazing to finally put images with it. Now the images stick in my head every time i hear it. A close second would be "Joga" except that its so short and ends so abruptly. The rest are all amazing in their own way and go way beyond being simply "eye candy". If you like somewhat diturbing and immaginative visuals and very emotional music, this dvd will probably hold a top spot in your collection.
Rating: Summary: WOOOOOWWW!!! Review: THIS IS PERFECT! All of Bjork's videos are extremely special and have many hidden symbolisms and messages and twists and turns and , of course Bjork's great personality and sweet sort of impishness shine through all the way...and all I can say is this this video rules! It's indescribably stellar, so I won't even TRY to describe its greatness! You just HAVE to buy it! And if you have the money enough you might just want to get the Japanese version, also available [...] in DVD, because it has two more GREAT videos for Alarm Call and All Is Full Of Love that truely finish off the video and are, just like the others, unique pieces of fabulous art and fun personality which radiates from Bjork to give them the great life they have. GO BJORK!!
