Summary: Worth buying
Review: A Life Uncommon DVD is a great DVD. It starts off with her early days and has interview with her brothers, mother, Steve Poltz and record company executives inbetween the live performances and video clips from the road. The story of her life is very well told although not as detailed as you would get in a book of course, this DVD only touches the surface but it's absolutely worth buying if you're a Jewel fan.

Summary: Steve Poltz and Jewel used to date eachother
Review: Actually, I haven't bought this DVD, but based on the review of the person in California, I will. I just wanted to let the reviewer know that years ago, Steve and Jewel were an item. They remain great friends. Steve helped her out with the Pieces of You album (co-writing some tracks) and before she hit it big, she would get up onstage with Steve's band The Rugburns and play Who Will Save Your Soul. The Rugburns were VERY popular in San Diego, and Jewel has returned the favor by having Steve play with her. My Old Lover's House is a track on the Rugburns album Taking The World By Donkey. That album is definately worth buying, as are all other Rugburns CD's you can find. They're very quirky. If you ever have the chance to see Jewel play live, do so. She is the most compelling live performer I have ever seen. Her talent is best displayed onstage.

Review: Beautiful insights into one of the greatest voices and sincerest artists.

Summary: Think twice before buying it
Review: Being a fan of Jewel and watching a few of her performances, I was pretty excited when I found out she had a DVD available. That is , until I viewed it! It is a phenomenal story- a girl who sings in a coffee house where she is a waitress becomes a rockstar- but man oh man, this DVD ended up like a trip to the dentist. Thank goodness Jewel has talent because the producers of this DVD do not. Why in the world do I want to hear in depth interviews about how "great" jewel is from her 2 brothers, mother, and hear how talented she is from her "agent"...Everytime she gets into a song you want to hear, her agent/mgr/relative is talking about what a great person she is, etc....Jewel is known for her songwriting- I'd much rather see the inspirational process, and how she writes and why she wrote certain songs rather than hear jibberish from her PR crew....Save your $20- don't buy this DVD because you'll feel cheated..Jewel if you're reading this, maybe the next bet is just some videos/in concert performances with vignettes on how you wrote the songs and their meanings.

Summary: Disappointed.
Review: Hello Jewel fans. Fact: I am a huge fan of Jewel's music, everything included, guitar, voice, imagery. I listen to Jewel to take the edge off a stressful day.
Opinion: I think the makers of the DVD achieved what they set out to do, present Jewel's semi-private life to the fans.
More Opinion: I was looking for pristine performances of her best songs, and I think this DVD came up way short. Don't buy this DVD if you are looking for a video version of the CD. I was, and it was a bad purchase for me. Fair Warning.

Summary: Not good at all!!
Review: I like Jewels music and was hoping this would be one of her concerts with some info on how she wrote the songs. But.... Not even close. If you are a fan and want to know about her and her lifes story then buy it. If just like her music and want to hear her sing a lot then don't.

Summary: A good show
Review: I liked this DVD because it reminds me of the intimacy of a Jewel concert. She is so much better in concert than on CD. You have to experience her honesty in concert to appreciate the CD's. The DVD is pretty raw and I liked that better than a finely produced DVD. It has a lot of footage and is fast paced. Could her brothers' look any more different than her???

Summary: More **CLEAR** singing please!!
Review: I love Jewel, I love TV documentaries of stars and the such, but I really was wanting to listen to the songs! Everytime she is singing on this DVD it is either unclear or someone is talking over it! How frustrating. I understand that its an insight into her life, but the dvd cover even has stickers on it saying which songs are included and really sells itself as a visual copy of the cd's, which it *IS NOT*. This DVD should have been labeled more clearly as a documentary, then if I purchased it I would have been pleased instead of ripped off.

Summary: great footage
Review: I think this video is great, if you really want to know about jewel and how it was like for her on the beggining, this is a great dvd. You can also catch yodling performances, and they are great, live performances are good too, but the best thing is the story being told.
