Rating: Summary: VERY STRONG Review: The band is strong here. I've watched them live during this tour, and I must say that I did not miss Halford one second, because I've never watched the band play with him.In this DVD, they are relaxed and confident, after all they're playing at their country (England - altough Travis and Owens are Americans). Very good track list.
Rating: Summary: Ripper Rules! The Demolition Tunes Kick-[***]! Review: The Demolition tunes sound so much better live on this dvd than the cd album. I don't know how to put it into words, but they sound much more like "classic" Priest; the guitars sound like they came right from the "Stained Class" album. Ripper has a commanding stage presence and can sign his nuts off. He actually sounds closer to Dio than Halford; personally I think thats a good thing. The sound here is great...the drums and bass come thru loud and clear. Scott Travis has to be one of metal's top drummers. Tipton and Downing freakin' rip thru every track like it's the first time they ever stepped onto the stage. Because this dvd was meant to promote the Demoliton album, the track list relies heavy on songs from that album while ommiting some classic Priest tunes like "Green Manalishi". Regardless, this is one of the best dvds I own. The intro to "Victim Of Changes" gave me goose-bumps while I was banging my head back and forth. My kids think I nuts! But hey.. metal rules and you'll be breaking the rules (and the law) big timne if you pass on this dvd. Get it now!
Rating: Summary: Nothing Better Than This!!! Review: The production is brilliant. Sound and video quality is unreal. Buy it! You won't be disapointed!
Rating: Summary: Bland Showcase Review: This concert just didn't do it for me. It was the vibe I felt as I watched and listened. I knew I was not watching a "band" Ripper is very stiff, lacking much if any emotion and this carried over to the other band members. The performances are there playing and singing each song(decent set) as it should be. The only thing missing was heart.
Rating: Summary: Metal Gods!! Review: This dvd is truly the best metal dvd I have ever seen The band are in top form (as usual) and the sound & video is amazing!!! It makes you feel life you are at the show at all times GO & BUY THIS DVD!! YOU WONT REGRET IT!!
Rating: Summary: These Fifty-Year-Olds Still Kick Review: This is a good DVD that shows Priest can still rock after all these years. If you are a long time Priest fan like me you cannot help but compare it to the old stuff. I saw Priest live in their prime on the Defenders tour 19 years ago, then again on the Turbo tour and I saw a videotape made of a concert on the Screaming for Vengeance tour. So with that bias I have a hard time giving this one 5 stars but there are also some objective criteria that justify removing one star. But first the positives. What I liked: - The highlight of the DVD for me is Painkiller. You can tell the whole band is totally into it and just kicking rear. If there weren't any close-ups of Glenn and KK you would swear these guys were twenty-year-olds. - The heaviness of Victim of Changes really comes through when played live. The technology of the original 1976 recording does not allow this tune reach its full potential, although it is an all-timer in any format. - They slow the pace on an acoustic version of Diamonds and Rust to great effect. - Adding Desert Plains to the set list. This has always been one of my favorite Priest tunes but rarely gets the attention it deserves. - Ripper's singing is just great. Worries about Halford should be put to rest (but I do support at least one reunion tour before they call it quits). - The way Glenn rips into the main riff of Hell Bent for Leather after sustaining some guitar feedback subsequent to the main intro chord progression. - Jugulator and Demolition tunes come across better live than they do on studio recordings. What I didn't like: - There are a few instances where the band does not seem to be totally into the gig. By this I do not mean they look bored. Rather, there are exaggerated attempts at poses and facial expressions, especially by Glenn, that seem forced and unconvincing. This happens toward the beginning so maybe they just needed time to get into it fully. - Shots of the crowd try to create the illusion that there is complete mayhem and frenzy among the fans. They do this by editing in real quick tightly focused shots and some clips of security pulling people out of the supposed throng at the front. I don't buy it. What I see is a casual crowd simply bobbing their heads to a good show. - Not one track from Defenders of the Faith on the set list (Half Sentinel at soundcheck does not count)! There's no justification for that. - The soundcheck segment. Who cares about soundcheck? Add in more tunes to the actual show! Why Desert Plains, Running Wild and the rest twice (soundcheck and show)? How about Freewheel Burning instead? - You've Got Another Thing Coming taken out but Breakin the Law AND Living After Midnight left in. Whatever. - Interview/candid segments somewhat scanty and short on substance for a band that has been on the scene for more than 25 years. Overall a good show that builds in intensity as it moves along. Sound quality is great. Picture quality is fantastic. Set list good. A worthy addition to any Priest collection.
Rating: Summary: Priest is [great] Review: This is a good dvd. The sound and video are very good. Priest still sounds so powerful and clean on stage. Ripper Owens has a great voice and does Halford's vocals very well, but absolutely bored me to tears. For most of the concert he just stands around with an "I'd rather be somewhere else" look on his face. He wanders around on the stage like he's lost and I could swear I saw him look at his watch a couple of times. Like many other dvds I've seen, the video of the guitarists [is aweful]. For some reason they never show the lead guitarists during leads, especially thier fingers. The set list could have been better. Many key Priest songs like Love Bites and Freewheel Burning are missing. Overall this is a good dvd and well worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Awesome DVD! Review: This is a great DVD.The set has a good mix of Demoliton material and classics.Thank God that most of the new material is from Demolition and not Jugulator. Pros- -Way better editing than the glam '86 Fuel For Life show. In that DVD,a lot of camera time focuses on the audience.Almost all of it here focuses on the band. -AWESOME versions of "Painkiller","Hell Bent For Leather",and "Victim Of Changes". -A cool acoustic version of "Diamonds And Rust". -Adding "Desert Plains" and "Running Wild" to the set. These are both great songs that are so underrated. -Ian Hill FINALLY gets some camera time. The man is basically ignored in the Fuel For Life video. Cons: -Ripper has a GREAT voice, but he bored me to tears with his stage presence. He does phony Rob Halford moves, and it is really annoying when he says"What's my name"? -Having Ripper do the bike before "Painkiller".This was Halford's trademark and adds nothing to the show. -"You've Got Another Thing Comin'" taken out,but "Livin' After Midnight" and "Breakin' The Law" left in. -Nothing from Defenders Of The Faith at all."The Sentinel" at soundcheck doesn't count! -Many great songs that were performed at the show weren't included. They should have done what they did with Iron Maiden's Rock In Rio DVD,and put the concert on 1 Disc and bonus features on 1 disc. So if you are a Priest fan, this is one you should add to your collection.
Rating: Summary: SIMPLY THE BEST PRIEST EVER! Review: THIS ONE IS A FULL 10 STARS TO ME,WITH THE NEW VOCALIST, RIPPER OWENS,I CANNOT EVEN THINK OF HIM NOT BEING IN PRIEST. THIS IS A TRUE BLUE PLUS FOR PRIEST.HIS VOCALS ARE #1 A MUST BUY IF YOUR INTO PRIEST OR NOT.
Rating: Summary: It's priest. Review: Well this is not as good as many previos released live albums by the group but they can still rock an arena. The visuals could have been better shot. Some clips are too short and so on. The ability is still there and even if the members could have banged a little more the feeling is still there, with one exception: Ripper. He basicly stands still on the same spot throughout the hole show and Rob Halford is unbeatable as a singer. Still this is a good DVD and worth the money.
