Rating: Summary: A must have for any Priest fan... Review: I've been a Priest fan since Screaming for Vengeance came out in '82. I've seen them live 5 times throughout the years, and each time I did see them... they never seemed to disappoint. With Halford's powerful vocals and Tipton's/Downing's rhythm/lead guitar... they always charged me up. With Halford's departure I was worried, like many Priest fans, on who can possibly replace him? Well... needless to say... Priest came through when they found Ripper Owens. What a voice on this guy! He's not much of a stage presence, BUT man... can he sing! He has absolutely no problem singing the classics: everything from 'Painkiller' to 'Stained Glass'. With that said, I had to buy this DVD. Let me tell you... I was impressed. The sound and picture quality is stunning, Song selection couldn't have been better, not to mention all the behind-the-scenes and sound checks. It's good to see Priest is still alive and kickin', especially with all the crap out there nowadays. I would recommend this DVD to any Priest fan. It's a must-have music DVD for your collection!
Rating: Summary: They never sounded better live Review: If you're a true Priest fan, you'd be a fool to pass this one up. The sound and video quality are perfect. It's presented in a slight widescreen format but not enough to ruin it. Ripper Owens is an incredible singer. Rob Halford was good, but he never sounded that good live. Ripper does a great job performing these songs live. ... I never paid much attention to the song "United" before, but it's definitely one of the highlights of this dvd. Ripper can even make a song like "Turbo Lover" sound good. ... get "Live In London". You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: It a great show which was filmed in 2001. This is a reason you get a great sound abd picture quality. It sill miss Halford as a front man. But, the the new guy and the bend doeas a great job anyway. You also get mixture of old and new tunes. The biggest suprise of the show is "Diamond and Rust" accustic.
Rating: Summary: Owens does good on Halfords tunes Review: Its amazing how well Owens replaces Halford on these songs. This is definitely a must buy DVD. I'm not even a die hard Judas priest fan (mainly the pain killer and jugginator albums) and I liked this. Picture is good, sounds is good. Only complaint, and its not really focused at the DVD as much as the future of this bad: Owens was a great replacement for Halford, don't get me wrong, I guess they found him in a priest cover band. My problem is it sounds like he ran out of ideas fast. Jugginator album was awesome, orginal, sounded like priest but even had a touch of alternative in it. If anyone has heard owen's newest album with priest though, I was way unimpressed. He sounds burnt out, the songs aren't catchy, sound the same, and I haven't listened to that album again. It sounds like he is fizzling out fast, where, on the other hand, halford's new album is awesome!
Rating: Summary: STILL THE STRONGEST, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!! Review: Judas priest, really being the first band to have two killer lead guitar player's. I know there was Wishbone Ash and Blue Oyster Cult. But they didn't have the razer sharp edge that the Priest had. Seems the two pivital points a Priest show centers on is Sad Wings Of Destiny and British Steel. Not a problem, because they fill in the space's in between with crankin' power that no one else comes close to. This DVD, LIVE IN LONDON is a great value for not only the cash. It's so well made (sound and visual) that it will be watched 10 to 20 years from now. It's a start to finish show, with no cutting in and out for talking. As other's have said, the added bonus stuff is not only enlightening but very entertaining. Moving from Califorinia to Missouri a few years back, I don't get to see as many "big name" show's like Priest. The DVD has been a Godsend!! Thanks Judas Priest for going the distance to bring the show to me. JUDAS PRIEST like a great wine or woman get's better with age. Keep on rockin' guy's!! The world need's gut's!! P.S. Seems LIVING AFTER MIDNIGHT has become to Priest what JOHNNY B. GOODE became to Chuck Berry? Or SATISFACTION did with the Stones? A GREAT SONG THAT SHALL NEVER DIE!!
Rating: Summary: awesome Review: just get the dvd you wont be upset.ripper owens rips and the extras are killer
Rating: Summary: Average release Review: Live In London is an average release from an excellent band. The set list is an interesting mix of old and new songs, but the DVD does not show the entire concert. The cd version contains, I think, five or six more songs from the same concert. Personally, I think that the concert lacks an intense atmosphere. There is too must light on stage and the band plays rather uninspired. Even the crowd sounds uninspired. The band plays solid, but the band's show performance is rather dull. Halford's stage presence is really missed on the DVD. Tim Owens is a good vocalist, but his performance, especially when he is not singing, is disappointing. The extra's on the DVD consists of sound check songs in black and white, some which are not on the set list of the show, and some short non-interesting backstage parts. I would recommend the DVD from the priest box, which shows a concert from 1983 or the Electric Eye DVD, which shows a concert from 1986. I only recommend this DVD to people who:
· Have too much money to spent.
· Prefer Owens over Halford.
· Prefer Priest's later musical efforts over their early efforts.
· Prefer a modern looking concert of Priest instead of an old looking concert.
Rating: Summary: THE PRIEST IS BACK!!! Review: ok, first of all, i'm 37 and i've been listening to Priest for about 25 years now. this dvd has got to be one of the best concert dvd's on the market today. this is the priest at their best. they did an excellent job combining new material with all the classics, and a few surprises. there are a couple of classics that did not make it, namely, "the green manalishi" and "you've got another thing coming". but other songs not heard for a long time, "turbo lover", "running wild", "desert plains" and some great before and after the show backstage footage more than make up for a couple of missing tunes. if you are a priest fan or a metal fan this dvd is a must for your collection.
Rating: Summary: Crisp picture and great sound, but where's Rob? Review: Rob's back now, of course! At least, that's what the media tells us. Time will tell if the grand old men of metal can work out their differences. Let us "prey"...This DVD has some really great moments on it: Glenn and KK's intro to "Victim Of Changes", KK's solo at the end of "Running Wild", and some actual footage of Ian for a change. It's about time - the man is virtually ignored in every other video. I still wince when Ripper yells, "What's my name?" or rides out on the bike. It just ain't right. And what's with the baseball cap and the phony stage moves? It's impossible for anybody to fill Rob's shoes, but Tim Owens is a little too silly for me. Glad he's gone - it ain't Priest without "Bob" Halford. I saw this tour in Portland, Oregon and had a great time. I just focused on Glenn and KK and it was beautiful. Ripper's got a great voice, no question about that - but I don't wanna look at him. At this point, this DVD is probably more of a curiosity, now that Rob's back in the band. I'm sure the boys will cash in on the reunion with another, more worthy, DVD. But there are much worse ways to spend your money than to buy this one. Plenty of heavy metal to soothe you while we wait for the return of the mighty Priest.
Rating: Summary: First of all, I'm a Halford fan Review: That being said, this dvd looks and sounds great. I often use it to demo my entertainment center to non priest fans. The 5.1 mix sounds fantastic! Diamonds and Rust has yet to disappoint. Tim "ripper" Owens sounds great and I wish him well. Yes, this dvd could have been longer. Also, Tipton plays what could be the worst live guitar solo I've ever heard in Victim of Changes. However, the song still is awesome. Owens seems to bring an emotion to the performance that Rob lacks..probably due to years on the scene. I wish there were more "classic" priest songs on this dvd, but even the new stuff sounds way better than the album. If you are any sort of priest fan, consider this dvd a must buy.
