Summary: Ripper is the Best Singer/Screamer out there!!!
Review: First of all, to say that Ripper sounds more like Dio than Halford, is the most moronic thing I think I've ever heard. The guy that wrote that in his review must not be able to hear, or is obviously tone deaf, and has no right even listening to Metal at all, at least as far as giving a review when it has to do with vocal talent!
Ripper has the complete range. There are other singers that have a good high range, but nobody screams like this guy. In Victim of Changes on this DVD, he holds a scream for 12.5 seconds, longer even than Dream Theater's James LeBrie's longest recording high note of 9 seconds, then he goes on to step on more of the high screams to a crescendo that is nothing less than
awesome. This guy is my new favorite influence for my voice training and has created a new-found drive in me to pursue what he can do.

Summary: Metal Legends Deliver The Goods
Review:
This is the quintessential Judas Priest Live. The band was flawless. The crowd was psyched. The cinematography is perfect. The quality of the video is amazing. And the sound is crystal clear.

Judas Priest continues to deliver the goods. And while the inevitable comparisons between Rob Halford and Tim "Ripper" Owens continue to plague the group this DVD proves to those who have not seen the band live with Owens that this is still the most powerful metal band of all time.

Halford is the prototypical, quintessential voice in metal, and continues to be an amazing talent. But Priest is not about Halford. It's about the music. And this band is the vehicle for the magic of heavy metal. It is more of a state of mind. And this DVD captures that live rapture that the musical notes deliver to metal fans.

Owens is amazing in his own right and amazingly captures the subtle nuances, intonations, and cadences of the songs flawlessly. His screams are pitch perfect, and at times he sounds eerily reminiscent of Halford. The opening passages of "Electric Eye" and "Turbo Lover" are perfect examples.

"Desert Plains" is amazing. "Metal Gods" although panned by many during the "Demolition" tour as a weak opening number, is perfect here, setting the stage for a metal fest. And "United" one of the weakest songs on "British Steel" stole this DVD, as the band gave it a nice razor sharp edge that makes anyone want to bang their head.

I've seen Priest live about nine times, twice with Owens. And he is amazing as a vocalist. This DVD truly captures the feel and look of this amazing band at their best, which is live, in your face.

Summary: Metal Gods
Review: A must have for any Metal / hard rock fan. This is probobly the best concert DVD I have seen to date and I have seen many. The usual problem with these concert DVD's is the sound, but this DVD sounds great.Over all a well shot / recorded DVD.

Summary: Good but toned down
Review: Although any metal nowadays is good to have, I was somewhat dissapointed with this. While the show was good, the members of the band are starting to show their age. The guitar solos were short and not with as much energy. If you compare this concert to Unleashed in the East you will see the difference.

Summary: Is this the definitive Metal DVD?
Review: As others have said this DVD is quite simply superb. Colour, sound, photography and the performance of each and every band member is awesome.

I've seen Priest over 36 times (all in Europe). The music was always the backbone of the band but on stage Halford was always the centre of attention. And with good reason. Is there anybody on the planet capable of upstaging him? Halford forged his own very particular style over a very long period.

If it wasn't enough for Owens to have to take on board the vocal benchmarks already set by Halford he also had to contend with the legacy of Halford's stage persona. The man was given a mission impossible. Or was it? Incredibly Owens very much holds his own on the vocal front often forcing the listener to stop comparing him to Halford and take him for what he is. A young man full of energy and professionalism.

No, his stage presence is not that of Halford's but let's go easy on the guy. Give him a chance to hone it. In his own way he imitates Halford to a fair degree with some movements and I find it an honour that he tries to pay tribute to the great man himself. His stage persona will only get better (and let's not forget. His stage persona is very good. It's just not quite 'Halford Standard' - yet).

If I haven't been clear until now, I'll repeat. The man's voice is what every Priest fan has dreamed of. He was given a mission impossible and pulled it off with style! Not only that but you get the impression (through the DVD extra footage) that the man is a normal down to earth type who knows how to have a laugh with the best of them but without coming over as some kind of egocentric, pretentious fool. Very much to his credit.

As the band themselves admit. They couldn't put all the songs in here. Something had to be left out. But it was a win, win situation for fans. The older stuff is there along with some newer tunes, that in some cases are real eye-openers. They come over much better than on record.

I've focussed on Owens as there is nothing more to add to the rest of the band that we don't already know. They are faultless. The extras are brilliant.

If I have a small complaint it has nothing to do with the band but more with a couple of feature issues. There are no subtitles on the disc. It would have been nice to have the lyrics available. As would the possibility of the use of some DVD angles and a running commentary as an option (to hear the band comment on their individual performances). And someone forget to mark the indivdual tracks on the 'soundcheck' extra.

But in spite of those points it still merits five stars.

Now, is there any chance of the band re-gaining the glory days and doing a super-production arena tour and capturing that on DVD too?

Summary: Track Listing
Review: Can't wait to get my hands on this DVD, a long overdue release from the Metal Gods. Since there's hardly any info listed here, I searched for the Track Listing on the distributors website. I wish they had included "Beyond the Realms of Death" , but I guess I'll have to take what I can get. According to them "the DVD features tons of behind-the-scenes material, rare footage, interviews, soundcheck footage and lots more!" This concert was recorded at Brixton Academy in London, December 2001. I'm anxious to hear the power of Priest blasting through my Surround Sound System!

Summary: Just don't like that gritty vocal style
Review: Don't get me wrong,I think Ripper Owens is doing a stellar job as Halford's replacement,I just never liked gritty vocal styles in general, which is really just a matter of ones preference.Though it kind of makes me cringe because I know how hard on the vocal chords it is,and I would like to see Mr. Owens have as long a career as the rest of Priest already have.
But enough academics, this is Heavy Metal!!When Ripper hit's those smooth tones or rips those high notes, look out!I had forgotten how much I liked "Desert Plains" unitl I watched this. And I agree with another reviewer here when they ask why "The Sentinal" was left out of the set list. They do it in soundcheck, but only half of it!
So for that, and a gritty vocal style (which again,is a matter of personal preferance) I knock off a star.(Well,1.1% of the star knocked off because of grit, the other 98.9% because of The Sentinal fiasco.
I was gong to knock off becasue I thought the guitars sounded a little thin, but hey! It's live for goodness sakes! And besides,I'd have to add back on because the 5.1 really fills out the room nicely!Groups are really beginning to take advantage of Surround-sound,and so far this is one of the best concert 5.1 mixes I've heard!(wow, when did Judas Priest get a bassist?!)
Anyway, the bottom line is I would highly reccomend this to any fan!Even those who have sworn them off since Halford's departure,TAKE A LOOK (and a listen,of course) AT THIS!

Summary: Best Modern Day Concert DVD
Review: First off, I would like to comment on what a great modern day concert DVD this is because of the camera work and angles ! Directors of "Ozzy Osbourne - Live in Budokan" and "Iron Maiden - Rock in Rio" should take note of this ! The camera angles are great, although up till this day, I will never understand why Ian Hill (bassist) only literally gets 5 minutes of collective fame through the DVD.

The set list is stunning; with some very interesting editions to their songlist (i.e. United, Painkiller). It is a very refreshing sound and feel. Ripper is full of confidence, and with that I think the entire Judas Priest band just seems to ride that confidence and plays one heck of a show. Judas Priest look so much better, and heavier as well. Their new songs off Demolition sound well refined and faultless.

This DVD comes with extra features; interviews and a soundcheck performance. A few of the tracks that didn't make the nights songlist; Sentinel ..,Machine Man and Lost & Found, make their appearances here, and Ripper, nor Judas dissapoint.

A very well, and tight performance by the band. Energetic and spontaneous. K.K shreds the hell out of Glenn Tipton, and back and forth they go, but hey, together, they shred the hell out of anyone ! This performance is Judas Priest aging gracefully, with an excellent touch of youth.

Summary: A great concert from the best band in the world
Review: First off, I've been a fan for over 20 years and have seen them 16 times and recently met the band after a show, which was VERY cool!!( thanks for the autographs guys!!!!) Nobody, I mean, nobody, can put on a metal show like these guys can. So many new bands owe alot to this band for paving the way for metal. This concert has great 5.1 audio and the color is superb. Ripper Owens is more than capable of belting out the Priest classics. The guitar work is incredible as usual for these legendary guitarist!! The 12 minutes of behind the scenes is a nice touch.... Funny too.The soundcheck is excellent. Desert Plains sounds perfect along with the other few songs they do in that section. I would recommend this DVD to everybody that likes a good concert DVD and it's a no-brainer for any Priest fan.

Summary: THE PRIEST RIPS YOUR FACE OFF.
Review: Greattt. Sound and video quality is awesome. Ripper looks real comfortable hanging with the BIG BOYS, the band sounds really tigh,as always, and Scott's drumming is out of this galaxy, He's one of my favorites(along with Portnoy and Bordin). This DVD rules big time, the soundcheck section has 6 songs, and the backstage/tour bus footage is pretty cool. The only complaint I have "TOO SHORT" 95min.(NO Green manalishi, some heads...,beyond the realms...you've got another...)but it's ok, can't have it all. Another thing, for drummers out there,Scott's visuals are so clear, close and many that it seems like a clinic video, you'll learn from him. Anyway, this DVD has it all.
