Rating: Summary: It's a great movie Review: I love the movie, I have seen it over ten times and everytime that I see it I begin to love it more. Yes the plot is somewhat lacking, but there is one there. And the music is great! I love all of the songs and was glad to see him revive some of the old Beatle tunes too. Also it's great to see Ringo in there. Ringo does a great job himself with the little bit he got in the movie. If you are looking for a movie that is just plain fun to see and are also looking for some really great music, then this is the movie to see. Don't go expecting it to be all elaborous and complex, it's just a fun simple layed-back movie that is a must for any Macca and/or Beatle fan.
Rating: Summary: A good time, not the greatest film Review: I remember loving this film when I was a kid. I bought it a while ago and it felt like something was missing. Then I realized in my old age (23) what this was, the plot. There is none! But I guess that wont matter to hard core McCartney fans (like me) anyway. I love Paul but i cant give this very average film 5 stars based on that alone. Great songs, especially the No Values and Not such a Bad boy warehouse rehearsal segment and the Eleanor Rigby sequences alone justify owning this film. Broad Street captures McCartney during my favorite and very much underrated post-Wings McCartney period (1980-86). Except for a few music videos its hard to find lengthy filmed examples of Paul during this time (at least that are commercially available) so this justifies it for me. Kudos to Paul for sticking with his own screenplay instead of selling out and taking a more "commercial" screenplay from a famous British playwright ( i forget his name) just to make money. Arrogance? Ego? Perhaps, but these are the signs of a TRUE artist. A good, light hearted fun film with great music, although there should be a label on the box stating "For McCartney fans Only"
Rating: Summary: Good Music-Good Film, It Was Never Star Wars Part 4. Review: My title sums it up. A good film and music video for McCartney fans. No More Lonely Nights is one of the best songs Paul ever wrote. The remakes are pretty good. His other 2 new songs, Not Such A Bad Boy and No Values prove he could(and can) still rock. Get the soundtrack and buy this film. If you're a McCartney/Beatles fan, this should be an enjoyable film for you. Just take it for what it is and you will like it. If you are looking for something grand and that it will work on ALL levels, then look elsewhere. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: It's about the MUSIC... Review: Okay, it's a silly vanity production. Paul McCartney playing a fictional character named Paul McCartney who happens to be a rock star who wrote songs called "Good Day Sunshine," "Yesterday," "Here, There and Everywhere," etc., and who works with a drummer, played by Ringo Starr, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the real Ringo Starr. Let's also hire Paul's wife and a handful of real actors (Ralph Richardson in one of his last roles!) and call it a movie! Yes, it's all a bit embarrassing. But thanks to Mr. McCartney, George Martin, and some fine musicians, the musical interludes are superb. Even if you have the soundtrack CD, buy the movie for the visuals to accompany the music. On that count, no McCartney fan will be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Not really a small film at all... Review: It is an enormous shame that Siskel and Ebert were unable to understand the plot of this film. It was simply too intelligent and gentle for them to grasp. But anyone who is literate should be able to understand the contrast between the hero's workaday life and the melodramatic horrors he imagines when the master tape for a new album goes missing. The plot is about resisting the temptation to condemn your friend on circumstantial evidence, and the determination to trust your own judgment. It is about believing the best of people rather than the worst, and about the human capacity to overcome the terrors that the imagination throws at you, and insist that reason and fairness prevail. It is a very coherent plot used to structure a series of beautifully staged musical interludes. Besides being full McCartney-Martin music, it has much to say to a culture drunk on speed, violence, and sloppy judgment. It is not really a small film at all, but a sort of musician-as-auteur cinematic essay that deserves to be listened to in several senses of that word. Visually beautiful, intellectually satisfying, musically a recurring joy.
Rating: Summary: out of print classic Review: i have been a fan of paul mccartney for years and come to find out that this video is out of print but it is a classic in my book.this movie is like a musical paul mccartney style it even has a good plot to it and you can't find this movie in any video retail store(only at amazon.com) plus it will be worth alot of money if you own it.
Rating: Summary: Not such a bad film Review: Your new album is due at the record company but the messenger carrying the master tapes is missing. What do you do? Why, sing a few numbers, of course! Sure, Paul McCartney's GIVE MY REGARDS TO BROAD STREET basically kills time between songs. And melody master Paul McCartney turns in a wooden performance, although that kind of acting hasn't stopped Keanu Reeves, to name one stiff actor, from a movie career. But what great songs! How did McCartney choose from so many superb Beatles and solo tunes he had composed? GIVE MY REGARDS TO BROAD STREET's at least worth a look on cable TV.
Rating: Summary: For Paul fans Review: The Eleonor's Dream section is worth the price of the reantal. It's just a nice movie, don't expect too much. In a way it's kind of sad, because it shows a Paul McCartney who doesn't know if he can trust one of his friends. There is a bittersweet quality to it all.
Rating: Summary: double meanings Review: Classic music by the beatles performed by paul mccartney are unmatched by any other film. The plot of the film, simple as it is, demonstrates how instructions no matter how clear and concise they may seem to the person giving the instructions, could still be misinterpreted by the person receiving the instructions. As simple as this plot may be, the movie demonstrates the havoc which an innocent misinterpretation can cause. In the Beatles anthology (during some of the filmed rehersals) it showed that similar misinterpretations caused some of the creative problems the Beatles just before their breakup. For example same happens in a room when someone evesdrops on a conversaton and overhears a name being mentioned and the listener mistakens the conversation to be about someone else with the same name. Or, someone saying they are going sightseeing in Washington(assuming the state of...) when they actually meant D.C. But what was most interesting was that the recording studio and just about everyone else let there immagination run wild accusing the messenger of tratorous theft when in fact he was just the opposite. He was devotedly waiting for someone to meet him as instructed...in a wrong location with the same name. Simple, but effective as in the most popular of Beatle songs. OH HOW THIS SCENARIO HAPPENS SO OFTEN IN REAL LIFE!
Rating: Summary: A musical work of art. Review: Paul McCartney really outdid himself in this movie. It was nice to see him and Ringo Starr in one movie together. Performances like "yesterday", "Here, there, and everywhere", and whatever song was after that-I can't remember the title-are wonderful works of art. This movie is one of a kind and a must-see for any Beatles fan.
