Rating: Summary: Outstanding Concert Video Review: This video is absolutely fantastic. Styx is a terrific band, but I've never liked Caught in the Act. This video is 10 times better. Great performances by ALL members of the band. All the hits are covered in this concert (over 100 minutes) and I couldn't have been more surprised by the sound quality. The BEST.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Review: "Return to Paradise" is the better of the two Styx videos that are available on Amazon.com. There is considerable less theater and more music than on "Caught in the Act". The band also seems more tight and enthusiastic, which is probably due to their excitement at being back together (DeYoung, Shaw, Young and C. Panozzo that is) for the first time in about a dozen years. The songs flow well from one to the other, which is hard to do given Styx' musical variety (sacchrine-laced ballads to hard-charged rockers). My only criticism is that Dennis DeYoung tries to add what he probably considers flare to the songs (especially Grand Illusion) which doesn't work for me. Otherwise, a good video for the Styx fan's collection.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding!Dejavue at its best!!! Review: A must for all STYX fans!De Young is fantastic with a very mature vocalrange vs. his younger sounding voicefrom earlier days. Excellent guitar work from Shaw and J.Y.Panazzo is stoich as ever but is right in the middle of it all!A big hand for Todd Sucherman who fills the shoes of thelate ,great John Panazzo. Every song takes me back in time when STYX wasthe hottest band of the 70s &80sworth every cent for total concert enjoyment! this video will definetely have you ROCKIN IN PARADISE!!!!
Rating: Summary: Styx ' Avant Garde' Concert! Review: Styx, the most Mythical and musical rock band of all time put on one of the greatest rock concerts of all time! This concert is a killer from start to finish.I got 'goose bumps'throughout the set by the Melodious/Harmonious voices of masters Tommy Shaw and Dennis de Young, these guys rocked the Chicago (home) crowd to classic Styx songs as Crystal Ball,Come Sail Away,Renegade,Blue Collar Man,Lady,Boat on the River and many more of their hits. The musicianship is a 10..Tommy and J.Y ripped through the crowd with precision 'Styx' solos tommy's acoustic performances on 'crystal ball' and fooling yourself is so heart warming he even played the 'mandolin' on the breathtaking 'Boat on the river'!De Young trademark 'dreamy' keyboard was refreshing as ever, so was his showmanship.J.Y even rocked the frenzied 'Paradise' crowd to his Miss America and Snowblind,Todd's drumming would have made the late John Panazzo really proud as it really got emotional when the band paid tribute to him (John) as De young sang 'Show me the Way'.
Bassist Chuck Panazzo who appeared unmoved throughout the set played remarkably.Truly a Classic Styx performance.
The menu, sound and video on this concert are all 10!For this price at Amazon it a 'Steal'!
Rating: Summary: absolutely one of the best Review: Having seen many concerts live and on tape ,(boy I wish I was at this one!!!) I have to say this is one of the best. From the opening curtain to the close. I was singing along and wished it was longer. Dennis Deyoung is a master showman with a beautiful God given voice,Tommy's acoustic guitar work will give you goosebumps as will his clear vocals and JY's guitar work and backup's are awesome and the drummer was great too. This is the real STYX Dennis,Tommy and JY. Buy this one and you'll have a great concert to see over and over and over again. MJB
Rating: Summary: Rockin The Paradise! Review: The footage for this excellent video was filmed during the 1996 Styx tour in Rosemont, IL. All of the hits which made Styx one of the top bands of the late '70s and 80s are included in this fine video. Classics such as "Come Sail Away", "Renegade", and "The Best of Times" bring this video to life, but the two songs which, in my opinion, are the best of all are Dennis DeYoung's excellent rendition of "Lorelei" and Tommy Shaw's uplifting "Fooling Yourself". Jy even gets in some keyboard time on "Lorelei", while Tommy's unmatched acoustic guitar playing shines through on "Fooling Yourself". This video contains the original Styx line-up, minus original drummer John Panozzo, who passed away shortly before this video was released. However, new drummer Todd Sucherman ably fills John's considerable shoes and doesn't miss a beat. Fans of the original Styx line up will surely enjoy this look at the band in concert.
