Rating: Summary: Mirrorball Reflects Again The undenying Talents Review: It is been almost a year since the release of the CD version of Mirrorball, and I am still amazed by the CD even now. No surprise that how eager any fans will be thrilled with the DVD version of the event. Thanks to the DVD technology, I guess fans are glad to get the full version of the event (inculding tracks like "Plenty", "Vox" and "Wait", that was not released on the CD version). In addition, it includes an interview segment with Sarah herself. The word is out... Sarah is gorgeous - both her talents and charisma. And the only way to witness is to see it yourself. With the great sense of stage managment and superb lighting arrangement... Sarah's powerful and emotional performance makes "Mirrorball" a touching and grand visual experience in times to come.
Rating: Summary: Sarah Simply Sexy Review: I've been fortunate to see Sarah live at all three Liliths, so I have a lot of experience to compare this video to. And it's fantastic. Unlike other singers, Sarah doesn't need much adornment (to prove it, she doesn't even wear shoes! the feather boa though is a seductive touch). Unlike many other videos which tend to be overproduced, this video simply puts Sarah in center stage and lets her sing. Just the way it should be. Sarah has very expressive eyes and the many closeups highlight them (one minor complaint, many shots are straight in, and the mike blocks too much of her beautiful face). I love listening to her play solo with piano and guitar, and this video has many such scenes. The most moving song is her piano solo of "Do What You Have to Do", just grabs my soul. The closing piano solo of "Angel" is also breathtaking. A great surprise was "I Love You" from "Surfacing". This is a romantic song that I thought would work well in a small nightclub but not on a concert stage. But she pulls it off! Dreamy. Great material from her earlier albums too, especially "I Will Not Forget You" from "Solace" and even "Vox" from her first album "Touch"! Beautiful music. Heart-rending version of "Possession". Never get tired of that song. When Sarah sings live, her voice has a rawer intensity compared to her more polished studio versions. Growls forcefully and breaks with emotion. All the tracks are prima, with the minor exception of "I Will Remember You" (for this definitely buy her "Rarities, B-Sides, ..." CD). Enough for now. I'm gonna go watch the video again!
Rating: Summary: ilikeitalot Review: This is the best Sarah video released to date. The song selection is perfect [pleasantly surprised to see the inclusion of Vox]. A year ago, my sister DRAGGED me to the Lilith Fair concert. I walked away a true believer. Now I have all of Sarah's CD's. I even made a "best of" Mini-Disc. People who complain about the audio don't know how to set up their audio/video options on their receiver. If you like Sarah, buy this DVD/VHS/CD.
Rating: Summary: Don't even think about it, if you like Sarah, buy it! Review: Here is a dear heart and as convincingly a pure soul as we will find in the public arena today - in on a fresh, clean Canadian high, Celtic strains streaming as in a Maxfield Parrish painting. Not redundant, but rather a delightful companion to the Video Collection, this DVD concert contains a brilliant LONG interview that leaves you feeling artistic and refreshed. (I felt like shucking everything and starting to write again.) Also the concert is brilliantly produced with multiple angle views that really enhance it. Excellent gallery (but too brief, this fem is not only 90's lovely, she would definitely be a subject for Da Vinci.) (Too skinny for Raphael, but I can see him biting his lip!) I've no more connection to Miss McLachlan or her producers than I have to Emerson or Sibelius, I just found, to paraphrase Williams, 'if there's somebody calling me home, she's the one.'
Rating: Summary: A FANTASTIC DVD FROM A VERY TALENTED ARTIST...A NEW FAN Review: Personally, I wasn't really a fan before I started listening to her "Surfacing" CD. It was great. So, I decided to try out her DVD. Boy, it was FANTASTIC! I AM A FAN NOW! Well recommended. I noticed that some fans have difficulties finding the song "I'll remember you". You can find it in the soundtrack of the movie "Brothers McMullen". But the rest of tracks are just instrumentals from a guy named Seamus or something. To those who want to get this CD, Happy Hunting.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding DVD Review: I have yet to experience the problems that a few other have with this dvd. My 5.1 sounds clear and direct and i haven't any problems w/lyrics sync. The only part of the dvd that i was disappointed with was the interview. The cameraman was obviously trying to make an MTV/VH1 type interview and completly failed. If you could not pay attention to the camera zooms it was a good interview. Sarah sings the songs better than i think i've ever heard her...
Rating: Summary: Very Entertaining but didn't feel like I was really there. Review: I agree with the previous comments "the dvd is worth owning just for the extra music...and it is entertaining, but entertaining like a tv show, not a live concert". My basis for comparing all other DVDs is James Taylor's "Live at the Beacon". This DVD needs to be re-mixed to compare. Yes, I tried this DVD in Stereo and Dolby 5.1. The Dolby 5.1 mix has some terrible "fake" delays in the rear channel. You know, I've never been to a concert where the stage sound came from the rear. The stereo mode is extremely compressed. I was so disappointed with this DVD, I wrote Arista and pleaded for a re-mix and re-release. I'd love to hear this after a professional audio engineer gets his/her hands on it.
Rating: Summary: It's good....but it could have been better. Review: Sarah's new DVD is good, but it could have been so much better. I was glad to see that others who have reviewed Mirrorball picked up on the same issues that I have with this new release. I thought something was wrong with the set up on my DVD/Home Theater system....the sound was muddy and not properly defined as it should be for 5.1 playback. After many attempts to adjust the system set-up I realized the DVD is just poorly recorded. Way to much ambience and not enough clarity I think. Sarah's vocals should come straight out of the center channel, but instead the vocals radiate from everywhere but the center channel. I also think that the film footage is matched to other recorded performances from the tour. As a musician, I can tell when things are not in sync...and it happens a lot on this DVD. So...still a good buy and worth owning, but with an artist like Sarah it is a shame it is not better.
Rating: Summary: Amazing performance by an artist in her prime. Review: Warning ! Do not watch this concert with your socks on - Ms McLachlan's vibrant, sensual (& barefoot) live concert will surely blow them off! Stunning visuals & great audio (5.1 surround) add pleasure to the experience of Sarah's live interpretation of many of her best songs. Even old favourites such as Vox & Ice are given new dimensions by Sarah & her band, who were obviously having tremendous fun as well. The atmosphere generated by an appreciative audience builds nicely throughout the concert, & for me the highlights were Possession (stunning & ballsy), Sweet Surrender (sensual) & Angel (emotive). For all who love Sarah's records, this live performance is a must.
Rating: Summary: great dvd Review: DVD is really good, offers a lot. You get an interview with Sarah, lots of pictures, multiple angles! The price of the dvd is worth it!! add a couple of bucks over the price of the CD and you have the DVD. What else do you want!!
