Summary: all the joy of a canadian quarter.
Review: Journey post-Steve Perry is Journey Lite. The new songs are simplistic, over produced and are filled with meaningless lyrics. This disc is a reflection of that. If you like to go to see tribute bands, and free vegas lounge acts, this disk is for you. Shame on the guys in this band, and shame on me for being fool enough to buy this dvd. Better to have memories of the real thing, than to have polluted my brain with Journey-Lite. If you saw the band in the 80s, if you understand the songwriting contribution that Steve Perry brought, move on.

Summary: journey....almost
Review: Neal, Ross, Jonathan... I miss the 2 Steves. However, Deen and the new Steve are no slouches. The mix is strong, and the picture is brilliant. this is probably one of the best looking and sounding dvds i own.

As for the performance, it's stunning. Deen Castronovo slams pretty hard, maybe a little too hard for Journey (he was perfect in Bad English and Hardline, though). Steve Augeri hits the notes with what seems like true respect for Mr. Perry, even if he had to do some overdubs here and there (?).

But let's get to the meat of the show: Neal Schon's playing.
Never better. the guy just improves with every album/tour/gig!

It's good to see Ross Valory groovin so hard; and Jonathan Cain doing everything else to make each song sound as good as, or better than, the original recordings.

It's been a long time since we've had a Journey home video, and even though it's the non-Perry Journey, it's still quite good. Sure I'd love to see the old stuff reissued on dvd, but til then, this will get played on my tv alot.

buy it, you'll be glad you did!

Summary: Well worth the wait!
Review: I have been waiting to see Journey for 23 years - seeing as I live in England and, sadly, the band's tours never reach Europe .
Well, at last the wait is over, even though I've now only seen them on DVD rather than in the flesh. But what a DVD!
The sharpest picture I have seen on any DVD, a superb sound (I'm talking the stereo version, I haven't got surround) and a totally stunning performance.
Steve Augeri is every bit as good at singing "Perry's songs" as his performance on the Arrival CD suggests and Neal Schon's guitar playing in particular is inspirational. The band really look like their enjoying their performance and it's contagious.
If, like me, you are considering ordering this Region 1 disc from outside the States I say "Do It Now!" My copy from Amazon arrived in England in 11 days, as promised.
I have only a few minor quibbles, which in no way detract from the 5-star status:
1. The cameras concentrate a little too much on the audience at times.
2. It would have been nice to have had either an interview with the band or a documentary on the tour and how the 'new Journey' came about, the disc is a little light on extra features.
But that's it. This disc rocks!

Summary: A must have for ALL Journey fans!!
Review: First off, I'd like to correct another reviewer who says there is something wrong with the 5.1 surround mix on this DVD. There is NOTHING wrong with it! The center channel is used for "ambiance", rather than just piping the lead vocals through it. Many of the "live" concert DVD's do this to offer more of a "live" sound. The 5.1 mix is very tight and will definitely give your system a workout. The stereo mix is outstanding too!

Now...on to the rest of the DVD. If you've never seen Journey live, this DVD will show you exactly why they are one of the tightest "live" bands in the history of Rock & Roll. I've seen Journey live 6 times ('82,'83,'98,'99 & twice in '01)...and they NEVER dissapoint!

The current lineup is the best ever (yes...there have been several lineup changes in this band). Deen Castronovo is nothing less than a genius on drums! You will be floored by this man's ability. Founding members Neal Schon & Ross Valory have never sounded better. Neal puts on a guitar clinic every time he touches the strings, and Ross provides a strong backbone (and a funnybone) to Journey's music. Jonathan Cain is the master of the keys....and one heck of a great rhythm guitar player. Finally, Steve Augeri (who has been Journey's lead singer for 4 years now) is amazing. He sings Journey's classics with a strength and passion that even a certain Mr. P. could not achieve at this point in history.

Get this DVD and prepare to have the time of your life! Then, go out and see the band live when they tour this summer!

P.S. The extras on the DVD are very sparce, but the quality of the performance more than makes up for it.

Summary: dissappointing sound
Review: I was very dissapointed when I first played the dvd. I do not know if the disk was defective or not but I got very little sound out of the center channel. At first I thought maybe a setting was incorrect on my system but after playing it on both systems I have and playing other dvd's I knew played correctly still not center channel. Video quality good but without the true 5.1 sound I was very dissapointed.

Summary: Worth the wait
Review: A long wait over the Xmas holidays to finally get this DVD shipped to me in Canada...but its now a permanent fixture in my DVD. This DVD is better than I anticipated, the sound is superb, the drums alone in "Filmore Boogie" will test your subwoofer. The band is tight as always, and the variety of camera angles really gave a good mix of views of the show. Steve A seems to have struggled a bit than from other times I've seen them, but when he's just crooning his voice is excellent. I normally don't promote things like this but if you are a fan, get this! And have a good laugh at some of the 80's dancing some of the fans are doing (what were they thinking? :).

Summary: Great Concert!
Review: I can't believe how good this concert was! This is a must have for any Journey fan. Whether you have an open mind about the new singer, Steve Augeri, or not it's hard to deny the power of Neil Schon's guitar work. In fact all the band members sound fantastic. Oh, and yes, Steve Augeri rocks!

Summary: long wait worth it.
Review: I have seen Journey several times and one of my favorite of many many bands I have seen since seeing Aerosmith as just a local band. I was waiting for a live performance recording for a long time. This is about as good as it gets in quality. Sure it might have been slightly better with Steve Perry's stronger vocals but the technology to to create it might not been as good. Incredible full sounding with outstanding visual quality including some beautiful Las Vegas women. A complete rock and roll band. If you want to demo your dolby digital system this will do it.

Summary: Journey's newest adventure
Review: JOURNEY 2001 - From the casual fan, to the 80's fanatic, to the diehard Journey follower, this DVD is for you. Neal Schon, Ross Valory, Jonathan Cain, Deen Castronovo and Steve Augeri are all here to make this the ultimate Journey experience! Kevin Shirley has done a fantastic job with this DVD. The picture quality and sound are amazing. Watching this DVD is just as good as being there. Journey's singer, Steve Augeri, has made the old hits his own, and the new material from their album, "Arrival", is my favorite new music of 2001. I bought both the DVD and VHS versions and it was well worth every penny. Want to rock? Get this DVD. Want to chill out with a love song? Get this DVD. Just want to have a good time? Get this DVD. In fact, you don't need a reason, just get this DVD!! And while you are there, pick up Arrival too!

Summary: This IS Journey IN YOUR FACE!
Review: For any of you who DIDN'T think Journey still existed, or refuse to accept a Perryless Journey, THINK AGAIN! After watching (and listening) to the first few songs in 5.1 surround sound, It won't take long to convince you, that Journey is still as INCREDIBLE as ever, doing what they do best, PLAYING LIVE, for their audience. Lead vocalist, Steve Augeri takes Journey to a new level. He performs the classic material flawlessly, with a great deal of admiration and respect. You might say he has taken those songs under his belt, and calls them his own. Steve HAD a tough void to fill, and he HAS done so, remarkably! New drummer Deen Castronovo adds some hard driving flare to the Journey beat, and it sounds amazing! Founding Journeyman Neal Schon just tears it up with his incredible, innovative axe work! He's on my top 5 list, of all time greatest guitarists! Jonathan Cain's superb, masterful keys and Ross Valory's pounding bass lines round out this amazingly talented group of musicians! This DVD is a must have for anyone who appreciates great music and great musicianship! The only reason why I gave it 4 stars, is that they didn't include enough new material from their awesome new CD, ARRIVAL. While shopping, be sure to add this to your cart, too!
