Summary: The best concert DVD is a long while...
Review: ... This is easily the best concert I've seen in a long time. Overall, it's better than Lyve From Steel Town, mainly because it's more fun visually with a really cool stage design compared to the previous live DVD. It really compliments the previous live DVD too, because it includes many different songs that weren't played on that one. The audio is also exceptional on this DVD too offering a superb mix and 3 different audio options (Stereo, Dolby Digital, and DTS). Whether you're a die hard Skynyrd fan or just a casual one, you won't regret buying this DVD.

Summary: It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This.....
Review: An absolutely amazing performance by one of the best rock bands of all time. I'm glad someone is still playing REAL rock-n-roll and no one does it better. The majority of today's bands pale in comparison to these world-class musicians. Sound and video quality is excellent! Did I read that Lynyrd Skynyrd is not in the Rock Hall of Fame? Unbelievable...

Summary: A great celebration
Review: Great performance. I liked it better than the Lyve in Steel
Town from 1998, basically because the stage is better and the
drummer is one of the best that Skynyrd has recruited since
1993's Custer (since 1987's reunion). I liked the old tunes
such as Mississippi kid, Double Trouble and Curtis Lowe. The
orchestra sounded cool on Tuesday's gone, though, I have my
doubts on it's inclusion on Free Bird, I would have liked it
without the orchestra, but it was fine. I missed seeing Leon and

his hats but Ean has a strong stage precense. The guitar
lineup was great and the new songs were incredible (from the
Vicious cycle CD). This is a must for a Rock and roll video
collectors.

Summary: Get the real Skynyrd instead
Review: I am not a purest. For example, I think the current Allman Brothers lineup is as good as ever, not only without Duane but even without Dicky , and ABB's Live at the Beacon Theater (2003)DVD is incredible. Yet to me it is an abomination that this LS lineup can use the sacred Skynyrd name. The real Skynyrd indeed was one of the best bands of all time. Here, Johnny Van Zant utterly fails as a Ronnie impersonation, and would never have been hired for a high school dance without his brother's name. Some things should just be illegal. Don't waste a minute watching this one when you could be watching Freebird the Movie or ABB at the Beacon instead.

Summary: WOW i am flabragassed
Review: I am not amused at the flaming of 2 of my most favorite bands of all time. First off all Stevie Ray could never...read it EVER, be replace by anyone, not even his brother. The man was like no other. Went beyond the blues and made the blues cool again. I love SRV, but without a doubt Skynyrd is absolutely amazing also. They are easily at their peak since reforming in 1987. I saw them in concert in December in Milwaukee and that show kicked maximums @$$. The newer guys came in their showing some amazing skill. (I must quickly give my props to Michael Cartellone on drums for playing with my idols Ted Nugent and Tommy Shaw with the Damn Yankees in the early 90's.) Seeing that 3 guitar + 1 bass attack live is like watching history in the making. Lynyrd Skynyrd is still one workin' hard, playin' hard band that hasnt slowed down a bit. I must say though, during the late 80's they were kinda cheesy from what i saw at the tribute tour.
Keep it rockin fellow bloodbrothers, and keep the flaming of 2 legendary bands on the DL

Summary: Re-living the expierence
Review: I grew up listening to skynard and i've been to several concerts. This just wasnt any concert. It was an expierence. I loved every moment of that concert. It was the perfect night in nashville. As bad as this sounds, that was one of the best nights in my entire life. The bands songs have meant more to me and have helped me out so much in life and i relate to them so much. I went in thinking I would see my favorite band and i figured i'd be yelling and screaming but i found myself there singing along with the favorites i grew up with, i left feeling like a changed man. Now I MUST OWN THIS DVD TO RELIVE THAT TRULY AWESOME EXPIERENCE

Summary: Buy This Concert
Review: I just bought this DVD last week and my Husband is sending me back to the store to buy another one today. He is afraid that it won't be in the house when he wants to enjoy it. I lend out music to my 20-year old son, and youngish neighbors, and have gotten them hooked on "old-style" music. THIS, and Viscous Cycles CD, have our neighborhood jumpin' right now. General Concensus-Even IF you had never heard of Skynyrd, this would bring you in. GREAT CONCERT

Summary: One of the best DVD concert releases of 2003!
Review: I love Skynyrd, the original line-up moreso that the current line-up. Bey hey, Johnny looks, and sings amazingly well like his brother, and hey, what a treat it is to hear those classics as well as newer material performed live some 26 plus years after the plane crash. The audio and video quality are impecable! I mean the sound is killer and the video is crystal clear! This is an amazing concert and the song selection I could not have done better myself. You know, other reviewers, such as srvfan 36 below, should shut their mouth, and can kiss my ass. To me people like that are just upset that somebody named Jimmie Vaughn didn't pick up the pieces to Double Trouble and roll with it! If that would have been done, all these SRV fans would be loving it. Personally SRV was an OK guitarist, and yeah, boo-who, he's dead, and so is Ronnie, but atleast Johnny's got balls to soldier on and honor his brother and the band they way Ronnie and all passed Skynyrd soldiers would have liked it done. As Ronnie said " Put that in your pipe and smoke it".

Summary: i was there live for the best show I've ever seen
Review: I was there too! I was front row center, the best tickets i have ever had for the best Skynyrd show I have ever seen by far! If you are a true Skynyrd fan, or even a casual one, you have to buy this DVD. It has to be one of the best. I have seen them live several times dating back to the reunion tour in 87-88, i have seen some good shows and some that i was a little disappointed in, this show was the ONE. They played stuff I have never heard them play in concert before. BUY IT and enjoy!

Summary: An Important Dose Of Perspective
Review: I'll admit, I bought this DVD solely for footage of Ricky Medlocke and Hughie Thomasson, since I haven't been able to find any of Blackfoot or the Outlaws although I did have a chance to see Blackfoot live in '81. I saw a show on one of the Neo-Skynyrd tours in '88, I was happy for that chance finally to see Gary Rossington and Ed King playing live since I was too young to catch the first incarnation. Also, I was a HUGE fan of the Johnny Van Zandt Band, was blown away by his guitar-playing young punks in an absolutely vicious show in '80.

First the good stuff:
My attention is always on the guitar players, the Lyve DVD has it over Freebird: The Movie because the live editing makes sure I'm not stuck looking at meaningless filler footage of the drummer/bass player/backing vocalists/crowd during guitar solos. And not to spoil anything for those who haven't watched yet, but Ricky and Hughie completely *BURN* the finale of "Freebird". Although not the original players who immortalized this heartbreaking dual guitar moment, the spirit in which they play suggests no 2 better replacements could have been chosen for the honors. And one aside: the likeness between new bass player Ean Evans and Allen Collins is downright spooky. Brrrr!

Now, and unfortunately, for the bad:
Simply stated, this feels far too much like a LS Tribute Band. A medley? Are you kidding me? Yes Johnny, I understand a medley is indeed a collection of song pieces. And I understand that in their comparatively short career Skynyrd assembled such an impressive catalog that it's virtually a guarantee that someone on any given night is going home dissappointed not to have heard at least one of their favorite songs. But I think it's important that this or any subsequent incarnation of Skynyrd make a decided effort to honor their roots in the original lineup and distinguish themselves as something other than a Skynyrd tribute band. And, in stark contrast to the band's continuing effort to maintain legitimacy by (wisely) producing new music, that's what medley's suggest: tired has-been Tribute Band. Maybe I'm just pouting because one of the butchered songs here was the barn burner "Gimme Back My Bullets", but this is my advice: Ditch the medley, pick *one* of those heretofore butchered old songs for performance in its entirety (AS INTENDED!) and fill the space with your new stuff. Speaking of being mistaken for a tribute band, I'd also suggest Johnny dispense with the insipid reminders to the crowd that "we're Lynyrd Skynryd!" Yes Johnny, we understand and it's why we spent our money.

And one more note to Mr. Medlocke: What's up with that Red Skelton knock-off hat you're wearing in "Sweet Home"? This was necessary?
