Summary: Missed opportunity
Review: Having attended the concert I feel that the producers of this set have missed an opportunity to truely capture the show. The dvd concentrates on the final set with the remaining members of Queen and their guests.

The concert was much more than that though understandly on video you are limited for space, but with a dvd you can pack more in. How about extreme spinal tap and all the others. I'm sure most people would be willing to pay for a 3 or 4 dvd set. I do enjoy the extras the rehearsal footage, the videos of freddie etc. It is an enjoyable dvd and doesn't ruin itself with extras that are only padding.

Get the dvd for the memories but make a copy of your old videos from the day before they wear out.

Summary: Not bad, but not nearly as good as it could be
Review: I also taped this show years ago and echo the other sentiments that the entire show should be here. With DVD it is easy to skip what you don't like, and they should have included ALL of it and let the customer decide which parts he wants to watch. One of the performers on this disc (his name begins with a "Z"? - I don't have the disc with me right now) is someone I have never heard of and I did not care at all for him, I cannot believe they put this on here and left so much else out.
My other major gripe is that the only 5.1 sound is DTS, there is no Dolby Digital. I have an "older" receiver/processor that has Dolby Digital 5.1 but not DTS. I was fooled by this disc, the case has a "Dolby Digital" logo on it but that is only for the 2-channel background menu music. So I am forced to listen to the concert in PCM stereo. It doesn't sound bad, but I know it would sound a lot better in 5.1. I refuse to buy the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" for this same reason.

Overall this is not a bad disc, the picture and sound quality are better than the same songs on my tape, but I only give it 2 stars because it could have been so much better.

Summary: "Two-Disc" DVD a Misnomer
Review: This review is a rehash of most of the other reviews, but I'll echo the general sentiments: this is one of the best benefit-type concerts ever staged, incredible sound quality, great visuals, fine musicianship, and the like. If you're a big Queen fan it's a must-have DVD. But there's no question the "double DVD" labeling gives you the impression it's the whole concert unabridged, which it isn't -- it's only the last half of the concert with the surviving Queen members. Omitted where mostly three-songs sets by Def Leppard, Metallica, Extreme and GnR. And these were tremendous sets. A real shame they didn't include them on the second DVD. I hope Bryan May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon fix this.

Summary: Someone was EDIT-HAPPY!
Review: I have the original broadcast I recorded from TV which is the best! The full show! I also have the Laser Disc version which is excellent and includes 3 songs from Metallica, The Guns N' Roses set and the best part (IMO) of the show, the fabulous Extreme tribute medley! Also the Laserdisc starts at the beginning! Whoever threw this edited and poorly transfered video DVD set, is out for the buck, not the fan! Hopefully someone in the Queen camp will read this and make a proper box set of the full concert!

Summary: No GnR, no Def Leppard!
Review: They left off the first half of the concert, with FANTASTIC performances by Guns N' Roses, and Def Leppard. My recommendation is that you wait until they release the ENTIRE concert on DVD.

Summary: No Guns N' Roses or Metallica songs! Nice DVD though :(
Review: The songs that are actually on the DVD are great! I can't beleive they left off 3 songs by Guns N' Roses and Metallica! Other songs are missing too! How can they make 2 DVD discs and not have the whole concert on there? This makes no sense! I should have taped the show a long time ago! I was looking forward to watching the GNR songs! ... A lot of people are going to be disappointed, like me...

Summary: The parts they included are magnificent, but...
Review: ...where's the first part of the show?! If that was included, the DVD would get 6 stars! First of all, how could such a line-up ... be anything but extraordinary, and it is! All the performers gave it their all, and none of them disappoint, stepping into Freddie's shoes for just one night (the dream of a lifetime for the "new generation" bands), putting their personal spin on Classic Queen, and giving moving, personal messages about AIDS (such as George Michael's in-your-face awareness message, and David Bowie on one knee, giving the Lord's Prayer!). Top that off with superior digital DVD picture and sound, and WOW, this is the ultimate rock show, and a very moving tribute to the late, lamented, great Freddie Mercury (don't we love him so?). Also, delightfully included, are the Freddie montages they showed while setting up each act, great interviews with Queen and the other artists, and some interesting rehearsal footage (from Annie Lennox/David Bowie, and George Michael/Lisa Stansfield). I don't regret buying the DVD in any way, even at full price, because the proceeds go to AIDS work, but I will forever wonder what happened to the other part of the show (were their legalities, or did they just forget?!), and I will have to go buy the VHS to suppliment the concert. In the meantime, this great show must go on and on in my DVD player, and you'll like it in yours, too.

Summary: Disappointed...
Review: I just got this DVD, an impulse buy. I was very disappointed to find out that it didn't include the part of the tribute show with the individual bands performing, particularly Extreme's great medley of Queen songs. I can't believe they only included half of the show, despite the fact that this is a 2 DVD set. Oh, well, next time I'll read the fine print.

Summary: disappointment
Review: I've been waiting for this on DVD since the DVD format came out. I watched the televised portion of the concert, and I bought the VHS concert. To have such an array of stars astonished me. From Metallica to Liza Minelli. Let's just say I'm grateful I still have a VCR and the VHS version of this magnificent concert.
Although it brought out the same emotions it brought out on the VHS concert version, the DVD lacks the sets of Metallica, Gun-n-Roses, and Extreme. Those sets were a large part of the concert because they completed the variety of the show.
