Summary: Good, not Great
Review: Let's face it, the Who were great in their heyday. But as singers age, so do their voices. Most cannot hit the notes that made them famous and these guys are no exception. The concert material is great, if you don't expect them to sound like they used to.

Summary: What ever happened to I hope I die before I get old?
Review: After seeing the Who perform fabulously in the Concert for New York, I was eager to see this DVD. RUBBISH RUBBISH RUBBISH. I could not sit through this DVD. They sound very bad throughout the entirety. So bad in fact that Pete swears at the audiance for comments made. ROCK IS DEAD. Please choose another Who DVD.

Review: I went to see the Who in 1976 when Moon was still alive. It was the best concert I have ever seen in my life. After Moonie passed away, I wrote the group off, especially through the Kenny Jones years and the various comeback tours.

This DVD represents the kickoff of their recent Europe/North America tour. I was pleasantly surprised by the energy the group had. In fact, Townshend and Entwistle seemed to have imporved their playing over the years while Zak Starkey is the best replacement for Moon that they've ever had. While somewhat rough around the edges, this is probably the best recorded concert (since Moon died) available right now. Hopefully, the powers that be will get around to rereleasing the Kids Are Alright and 30 Years of Maximum R & B on DVD, as well.

Some nice surprises on this release are the improvised versions of the Kids Are Alright and the seldom played Relay and So Sad About Us. Usually, the appearance of celebrity guests distract from the main group but in this case, the Who are never overwhelmed by their guests.

One minor complaint is that the camera work moved around too much never allowing us to really look at the group much. For example, you can't see Pete and Roger jumping around all that much because the cameras were bouncing back and forth too much. Also, the Cameras seemed to ignore John altogether.

For a Who fan of almost thiry years, this is a treat and highly recommended.

Summary: The Who still rocks
Review: As I write this review, I have tickets to see The Who in concert and I bought this DVD to whet my appetite. Consider my appetite well whetted!! This concert was recorded on November 27, 2000 and the band is better than ever. I can't wait to see them. What I particularly liked about this DVD is that the footage of both Peter Townshend on the guitar and John Entwistle on bass really provides intricate detail. The camera work is superb and you really get to see how they do what they do. Townshend was a contemporary of Hendrix and Clapton, so he is often underrated. When you see close up, what he does and listen to him, you realize that he belongs in the select group of super guitarists of the Hendrix/Clapton stature. In this DVD, he still exhibits his showmanship with his windmills, jumps, and occasional lapses into course language.

Interestingly, Townshend was using Fender Stratocasters in this concert even though historically, he has used both Gibson Les Pauls and SGs. Indeed, Gibson produces an SG model named after Townshend. The Fenders are very different guitars, with single coil pickups rather than humbuckers yet, Townshend produces that same great sound.

This DVD is over 2 hours and twenty minutes long. You definitely get your money's worth. there is also a second disc with effects and extras. I disagree with several reviewers who claim that the sound quality is poor. I thought it was fine. In fact. in listening to some of their numbers, such as "Who Are You," and "Baba O'Riley" if you close your eyes you could almost think you are listening to the studio recording. Other songs are highly improvised such as "The Kids Are Alright," which is both lengthened and includes changes.

The ending is emotional. This concert was a benefit for a charity supporting teenage cancer patients. The concluding song is, predictably enough, "See Me, Feel Me" and the group is joined in this finale by great musicians who had cameo appearances in this concert. At this point, Roger Daltry's voice is beginning to tire (it had been strong through most of the concert) but it doesn't matter. Indeed, his voice becoming slighly coarse at the end just adds to the great effect of a live concert. They are further joined on stage by a group of teens who are beneficiaries of the charity. To see them on stage, happy, singing along, smiling, and jumping excitedly to the music brings a real lump to the throat. This is a great DVD and I highly recommend it.

Review: There's not much else new that I could add that hasn't already been stated by the reviewers below. All I can say is: LISTEN TO THEM!!. I did, and bought this DVD, and am eternally grateful for there awesome recommendations. For those of you that have luke-warm feelings about The Who, you will still be impressed. For those of you, like me, who feel that they are the stand-alone greatest rock group in history, for just pure classic rock 'n roll, please, please, please don't deny yourself of this classic concert video any longer. I promise, you will be blown away. I was stunned by the powerful performances of each individual. Roger's voice is still the best around and he's obviously still having fun what he's doing. Pete does not hold back at all, and comes through just as well, if not better than I have ever seen him do. The Ox (Thunderfingers)...well all I can say is, wait until 5:15!!

This has only happened to me a couple times in my music-listening career, but it happened again. I wept--from the sheer emotion, energy, and beautiful sound these guys displayed, I just lost it. And I didn't even cry when Old Yeller died, so that's saying something.

Review: Goose bumps !!
As a child of the 60's, The Who were grouped into bands like The Kinks or Dave Clark Five. Into the Highschool day's of the 70's, they became part of the soundtrack of a youth ready to crank it up!! Anyone who has ever seen The Who live can tell you. "The recordings do no justice to the live atmosphere that the Who show brings along with it."

Althrough the 80' and 90's hearing about Pete never playing live anymore was like "Oh well, bye bye."

So I bought this as a nostalgic souvenir. Maybe live in the past for an evening with my buddy Jack Daniels.

Set the speakers up next to the screen, cranked it up to 11 !!
WOW!! THIS IS ONE HOT DVD !! Roger was hitting those notes! John E. proves one more time why he was alway's one of the most influential bass player's of all time. (Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, has nothing on the dexterity of The Ox, lol. But you can see the influance he had on Steve.) And Pete? Alive and kicking!
What a great showman!!
The quality of this DVD is so fantastic. Sound, picture is all here.

The guest's are alright? But they do tend to limit The Who's potential to bring out the level of energy that the guest's home bands never will generate.

To bad Keith Moon couldn't be here to see this. RIP Moonie

Summary: A GREAT DVD!!!!!!!!
Review: This DVD is great. I think these guys just get better as time goes by. Pete, Roger & Zak are are in top form as usual. But to me, Entwistle is the man here!!!! I swear those thunderfingers get faster with age. I did not think he could get any better than what I have seen him do in the past. Check out his bass solo on 5:15. There isnt a bass player that can touch him. Zak Starkey is a real nice addition to this band. I was never a Kenny Jones fan & was glad to see him go. I also was not that impressed with the special guest thing here, but it doesnt ruin any part of this show at all. If you are a Who fan, get this DVD. The only flaw with this concert is that I still miss that lunatic sitting at the drum kit.
