Rating: Summary: Fantastic but INCOMPLETE nonetheless!! Review: One can't help but enjoy this IMPRESSIVE video collection on DVD - ok, ok, I LOVE it - because that's the power of this mix of hits and tunes from (only?) 7 years of a great career - BUT a true fan can't help feeling TOTALLY CHEATED out of some of the most valuable gems of Mrs. Guy Ritchie's video history!!! And while I'm at it, why just 7 years? It seems ridiculously apparent that the "suits" at Warner/Maverick/AOL Time Warner, etc., etc., have sliced this package up for "optimum selling power" as a "family friendly" product. And the fact that the fans reviewing this DVD have largely accepted these omissions is strange. The obvious and glaring omissions of "Erotica", "Justify my Love" and "Deeper & Deeper" (no matter when they were released) is an utter act of cowardace on the part of the company to support/back the superior Mrs. Ritchie - and could she have made them any $$richer?? Truly a disgusting error! Again, while I love this digital collection, and view/listen OFTEN, I continue to be GREATLY disappointed that the fans weren't treated to the total package. Mrs. Ritchie is obviously not done creatively (the Drowned World Tour was her best yet), but a retrospective of videos to date is absolutely necessary! Enough with the "teaser" packages!! Other important omissions: "This Used To be My Playground", "You'll See", I'll Remember", and lastly, but NOT LEAST - the haunting "I Want You" featuring Massive Attack (I just can't understand this error!). Additionally, while I'm still ranting, (with the hope that someone at MAVERICK is listening - hello Mrs. Ritchie, are you out there?), it is also important to mention the other videos left out of the first (or second) collection - the always fantastic, "Burning Up"; "Everybody"; (a live and classic) "Dress You Up"; "Crazy For You" and "Gambler" from Vision Quest; "Into The Groove"; "Live To Tell"; "True Blue"; "Who's That Girl"; "Causing A Commotion"; and "Dear Jesse". The company's CHEAP approach at slapping together 2 DVDs with SO MANY missing classic performances really is worthy of attention, but as long as the fans continue to applaud this type of butchery, nothing will change! Power in numbers... start the letter writing campaign to Warner/Maverick and AOL Time Warner and cross your fingers! Oh! Were you looking for a review of the DVD?? Well then, what are you waiting for Madonna fans? Go ahead and buy it already!
Rating: Summary: Diva-licious! Review: If you are a Madonna fan, you must own this dvd. This collection of videos is a block of music that highlights Madonna hitting her stride. Though Madonna had great videos before this set (such as the ultra-glamorous "Vogue") this group reveals the cinematic approach La M takes on each video. She tries to out do the next by making each one better and more interesting. And, that is, of course, why we are continually drawn to her. My personal favorites, though I like them all, are "Frozen", "Secret", "Rain" and "Take a Bow". Visually, you don't get much better than Madonna when it comes to videos. Buy this dvd and Madonna will justify your love for her.
Rating: Summary: Madonna - The Queen Of Music Videos Part II Review: Madonna is a legend, a goddess of the 20th and 21st Century. OK, that's an understatement. In her 20 years that she has dominated the music business, she has sold more than 160 million albums, topped the UK singles and album chart 17 times and is one of the most respected women of all time. Her music videos play a big role in her status. She can use music videos to express herself and be even more creative than she already is!The Video Collection - 93:99 features a collection of Madonna's best music videos from, unsurprisingly, 1993 to 1999. The videos run in order of release and I will be rating them out of ten, firstly on the song and secondly, on the video. The first three music videos are taken from the album Erotica. The first video is Bad Girl (10/10, 9/10). A beautiful ballad with a good video to accompany it, it was featured in Madonna's erotic, 18+, 1993 film Body Of Evidence. Bad Girl also features clips from the film - not the erotic scenes if that's the only reason that you were thinking of buying it for! The second video is Fever (9/10, 8/10), also from 1993. This cover of Peggy Lee's classic simply swings! The video is very red! That's probably the best word to describe it as lots of flames surround Madonna. Not Madonna's best video, but still good. Rain (9/10, 10/10) was also released in 1993 and is the third video. It's another beautiful ballad that shows Madonna filming a movie. Her short, black hair was just one of Madonna's ever-changing images. The next five videos are taken from the album Bedtime Stories with the fifth video taken from Something To Remember. The fourth video in the collection is Secret (9/10, 8/10) from 1994. This black and white video is very cool. Many people thought the song was about Madonna being pregnant. The rumours were proved wrong, as Madonna would have her first child two years later. I suppose most of Madonna's video's can be regarded as classics, and Secret is definetly one of those. The fifth video is Take A Bow (10/10, 10/10). The song topped the US chart for 7 weeks and became her biggest hit ever Stateside, but it peaked at No.16 in the UK becoming her lowest chart entry for more than 10 years! The video is set in Spain and is about a man who is a bull-fighter and doesn't pay enough attention to his love interest (Madonna), so she leaves him. Definetly one of the best videos in the collection. Bedtime Story (9/10, 10/10) is the sixth video. This weird video shows Madonna at her most creative and inspiring. The seventh video is Human Nature (8/10, 10/10). The last single to be taken from Bedtime Stories, it was said to be the last chapter on Madonna's sex phase. The theme of the video is bondage. It's a stab at her critics who criticised her for her early-90's actions - very clever and thought-provoking! The eighth video is Love Don't Live Here Anymore (10/10, 9/10). The song first appeared on Madonna's 1984 No.1 album Like A Virgin, but later appeared on her 1995 ballads collection Something To Remember. The song was never released as a single, yet a video was made for it(?!) The video shows Madonna walking around some pillars wrapped with sheets. It may sounds strange, but it's not. The thing I noticed most about this video is that the camera angle never changes. It moves in very slowly to Madonna halfway through the song before moving back out as the song ends. Very cleverly done! The next five videos are taken from Ray Of Light. The ninth video in this collection is Frozen (10/10, 10/10). Madonna returned in 1998 as it went straight to No.1 - her first UK No.1 since 1990's Vogue. The beautiful ballad and haunting vocals are amazing and the video is perfect for it. It is set at night in a desert. Madonna is a witch as we can see that the black liquid on the floor is her energy that seeps into the ends of her fingers. Very spooky, yet beautiful. Ray Of Light (10/10, 10/10) is a Madonna classic, both musically and visually. The video won a record 6 MTV Video Music Awards in September 1998. The video took 10 weeks to film as it's all speeded up. Yet another fantastic video from Madonna...do they ever get rubbish?! Drowned World/Sustitute For Love (9/10, 8/10) is the eleventh video in The Video Collection. The song is about how Madonna has finally realised that family and friends are more important than fame and money - the two factors she was only interested in the 1980's and the early 1990's. The Power Of Goodbye (10/10, 10/10) is the twelth video. Madonna plays chess with a man in a beach-house. It a very green video and exremely scenic! Madonna kisses the man before disappearing into the sea... Nothing Really Matters (10/10, 10/10) is the thirteenth video in this collection. I found this video to be very intersting, rather disturbing if I'm honest. It shows Madonna racing around like a nutcase while lots of Chinese/Japanese children follow her around. An exceptional piece of work with great acting by Madonna. Madonna finally shows her humorous side with Beautiful Stranger (10/10, 10/10). Taken from the film Austin Powers II: The Spy Who Shagged Me and the soundtrack of the same name, it's a fantastic pop song and one of Madonna's best ever. The video is very funny, especially Austin's dreams! OVERALL GRADE: 10/10 Any Madonna fan can hopefully see, after reading this review, that The Video Collection - 93:99 is a must for anyone remotely intersted in this amazing singer and peformer. After watching the whole video, take time to reflect on all 14 of the music videos. You'll be able to fully appreciate how her style changes so much from one video to the next - especially her hair! Five words: buy it now from Amazon!!!
Rating: Summary: 93 : 99 the video collection Review: Yeah, really! I didn't appreciate the Madonna's songs as much, til I saw the videos. I like Madonna very much, and never bought a video or special edition cd of her before. David May, the compilation producer, choose some great songs to put on the DVD. Except for "Take a Bow", all songs are excellent, and happen to be my favorite songs of all time...Madonna makes songwriting look so easy, fun and free. The cd version is really great. Taking the opinion of a fellow top 1000 reviewer, I agree that the video of "Rain" is beautiful. Madonna looks so different, and if she only knew how good she looks with her short, dark pixie hair. My absolute favorite songs of Madonna have to be "Bedtime Story", "Rain", and "Power of Goodbye". Both song and video of Bedtime Story are so futuristic. It takes a chameleonic woman like Madonna to take on the "White Vision" appearance she used in this song. 14 songs is fine for a video collection. Personally, I am glad they didn't put the early years songs in. If this DVD skimmed Madonna's career from the start, then the feeling of watching these videos again wouldn't be the same for me. Where are the pics? There could have been a booklet of some kind. The few pics which are "built in" to the box are okay, especially the ones with the short black hair. Madonna as Evita is nice too. The paper DVD carton is enviro-friendly. At least if the carton gets damaged, it can be recycled. But that would leave just the gorgeous DVD disc itself. Nice frosty silver effect, with the glossy feel. Cool graphics too! The cover shot could have made a nice cd cover as well. Either the front or the back, as a matter of fact. It's amazing what can be on a 67 minute DVD. I have no complaint about any editing, sound or color. The picture and sound are clear...To jump around like that on video is certainly an experience Madonna obviously enjoyed. "Nothing Really Matters" is futuristic, as well as "Frozen", "Drowned World" and "the Power of Goodbye". I never knew there was a video of "Love don't live here anymore", but already assumed the song was written about Ex Sean Penn. So, with all this said, the songs have entertained me enough to put this collection up with the best of the best here at home. Madonna is definitely the Queen of Pop, and this DVD deserves to be bought, and watched many times.
Rating: Summary: More material, Girl! Review: Madonna knows how to make a video. Her collaborations and performances in each little gem has been one of the strongest aspects of her amazing career. Unfortunately, she doesn't know how to make a DVD. For a woman who's made a career out of being unpredictable and pioneering, her efforts in showcasing her work in the DVD format have been surprsiginly ho-hum. Where are the extras? Where's a behind the scenes look at the making of any of these groundbreaking clips? And why are clips missing? Why not include "Deeper and Deeper", "This Used To be My Playground" and "You'll See"? And where is "I Want You" and "I'll Remember"? I had read that "Erotica" was left off the collection to avoid a Parental Advisory sticker plastered across the packaging. I hope this isn't true. Could the woman who released the "Sex" book really be all that concerned about such a warning? I'm sure there are countless reasons for such glaring omissions. It is said that Madonna hand-picked the videos that she's most proud of for this release. And, without a doubt, they are all great videos. But with expectations so high for both Madonna and the DVD format, why not give a little extra? I've given this collection five stars for the content alone...but as far as DVDs go, this one not only could be better but should be better.
Rating: Summary: WHO'S THAT GIRL? Who is Madonna, Really? Review: After having other Madonna videos and seeing close ups of her I was expecting something similar. This video has higher cost production and more background settings during the making. I was surprised some videos were not included that would've added a lot and made it better. I enjoyed mostly the following videos: Secret, Bedtime Story, Frozen, The Power of Goodbye and Nothing Really Matters. I wish she would have included: Deeper & Deeper, Erotica, What It Feels Like For A Girl, Don't Tell Me, Use To Be My Playground, Don't Cry For Me Argentina, Vogue, and You Must Love Me. I would've put the "1993-PRESENT" and added those. As a TRUE Madonna fan that has been totally captivated by her UNIQUE qualities as an artist, actress, and singer I find her to reveal many different stages of her life. You see her with black hair, brown hair, and blond as you wonder who really is Madonna? It is as if she is looking for herself and discovering her inner soul. There's the fun side of her in Beautiful Stranger and the sexy sides like Bedtime Story and Secret. And of course the sad and romantic like Rain & Take A Bow. I felt this DVD was a good buy for a TRUE Madonna fan and a WANNA BE fan. Having quite a collection of her work I gave her 4 stars because I compared it to all her videos as a whole, which are quite a few. If you don't know whether to buy this DVD don't hesitate because just from seeing her TRUE inner and outer beauty this collection makes it a pleasure to watch, even if it isn't a perfect 5 stars. There's her beautiful make-up, the nice scenery, and the exquisite drama that make it a top choice. The Queen of Pop will ALWAYS be sitting in her throne because no one can TOP Madonna, NOONE. lovelygirl
Rating: Summary: Great collection, but a few videos are missing¿. Review: Guess I am not the first reviewer to note that certain songs were missing from this otherwise superb collection. Here we find all the milestones from Madonna's post Blond Ambition period up to, and including, her first electronica reincarnation. Lotsa really good, groundbreaking videos on here. She shows us again and again that she still is on top of her game. I may in the minority, but I do think that her work from the last decade is far more innovating and interesting than her sometimes bubble-gum eighties counterpart. Now, I do think that the controversial Erotica clip, Deeper and Deeper, This used to be my playground, I'll remember, and You must love me should have been included, at least as bonus on the DVD. Why waste all the empty DVD space....? Still, I would recommend that you get this one to complete your collection of music DVDs.
Rating: Summary: Drowned World=Best Video Review: Madonna videos are 10000000 times better than marilyn manson videos.
Rating: Summary: What's with the sub-par packaging? Review: You've seen the videos, and you know they are (mostly) good. The problem with this product is the packaging. The woman has won awards for her CD packaging, but all we get with this collection is a...cardboard package with no liner notes. Yuck.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely great DVD, must have for any Madonna fan Review: The sound quality in the DVD is great, fantastic & the best you will find. The video's are OK, since they were shot long time ago you can't complain on their quality. I will definitely miss some other good video's not included on thsi DVD & hope they come out soon on a DVD. Buy it & you will love it!
