Summary: Make YOUR funk the P-Funk!
Review: Not many performances of Parliament/Funkadelic were captured on tape in the 70's, so this is a performance to truly treasure. I was surprised by how good the sound is - at least compared to the picture, which by no means is above a 3/5 standard. That and the fact that there aren't any special features is reason why this DVD, at almost full price, doesn't deserve five stars. Don't let this scare you, though; it's all well worth watching and listening to - if you're a P-Funk fan this is a must, and if you haven't yet quite figured out what funk is - this DVD gives you the perfect answer. Here are over 80 minutes of ultra-funky entertainment from P-Funk's hey day, featuring classics like "Cosmic Slop", "Standing on the Verge...", "Mothership Connection", "Tear the Roof Off..." et al.
The concert was taped in Houston, Texas in 1976. You will experience the landing of the mothership, and just before the encore there's a guest appearance by Bootsy Collins' and Sly Stone's bands. As they all dance, sing and play there's about thirty people on the stage. It just doesn't get any funkier than this.

Summary: Definitely the 'P'
Review: Of course being a funkateer from way back, I was overwelmed with nostalgia. So it's difficult to give this DVD anything but 5 stars. To see the funk mob at the height of their supergroovalisticprosifunkacation is a truly a pleasure. Mike starts it all off with Cosmic Slop. You'll see a ventage 30-something George, Fuzzie, and Bernie, along with the classic swing low chariot performance from Glen. And the Brides are looking sexy as hell. The downside is that the camera shots provide limited, and often times overly dark perpectives. But you'll get a good look at everyone at least a few times. Also, this is published as a 1985 concert, but I'm certain this is no later than mid-70s (Unless Glen was re-incarnated). So don't be too dissappointed if you recognize the glaring absence of songs like Flashlight, Aqua Boogie, or One Nation. Even without those classic jams, this is definitely P-funk, uncut funk, THE BOMB!!!

Summary: Great Concert !!!!!
Review: P-Funk fans, this is pure unadultered Funk. This concert is the epitome of what Funk is all about. The Mothership Connection Tour is something to behold. One of the highlights is the late Glen Goins singing Swing Low Sweet Chariot, prior to the Mothership landing. This concert is a must - see for all fans of the Funk!!

Summary: FUNKED UP P.S.
Review: P.S. You could've added a bit of footage on Sly and The Family Stone as they were the warm-up act. Maybe Just their Encore! :o)

Summary: This DVD should be called..."Waste Your Hard Earned Money!".
Review: Please let me begin by saying, "I absolutely LOVE George Clinton and P-Funk! And I'm a regular customer here at Amazon.". This is just the first time I've ever been compelled to write a review...out of pure disgust!!! I recently saw George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars live and funkier than ever in Dayton Ohio. Had I been given the chance to buy the concert I saw on DVD...I would have GLADLY paid $100.00...and would have thought I was getting off easy...it was that fantastic. This "Mothership Connection" DVD on the other hand is toilet paper. The $250,000.00 mothership prop previous reviewers speak of is nothing more than an eyeball made out of cloth...with a spotlite fixed on it that simulates blinking. If that prop is worth that...than George and his people got screwed worse than I did for having bought this DVD. Amazon usually provides quality merchandise...however this isn't one of those times. I'm thoroughly disappointed in this DVD!!!

And while on the subject...don't waste your time with the Atlanta House of Blues Concert either...it's equally as bad. The sound is horrible, the cursing that occurs is beeped out, and the entire affair appears to be one huge grabass session on stage.

If you want to see George...go see him live...you can't go wrong with that...and you'll thank me for sterring you away from this trash they call entertainment.

Summary: Uncut Funk...Da Bomb!!
Review: So the sound and video quality are on par with those cheesy "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" shows from the 1970s. This dvd is a historical moment for funk fans as well as fans of Parliament/Funkadelic. In fact, the roughness of the sound and video adds a charm to the dvd (After all, funk is supposed to be dirty!). Some things just shouldn't be "colorized".

Summary: P-Funk at the height of its powers. A spectacular show.
Review: The P-Funk Earth Tour hit the United States like an earthquake. This DVD is a recording of the show from the Summit in Houston, Texas. It's truly an all star cast featuring Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley on horns, Bernie Worrell on keyboards, Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton and Garry "Do Wop" Shider on guitars, Jerome "Bigfoot" Brailey on drums, and original Parliaments Grady Thomas, Fuzzy Haskins,Calvin Simon and Ray Davis on vocals. Glenn Goins' soulful balladeering is essential in bringing the Mothership (a $275,000 stage prop) down and George Clinton is the ringmaster who brings it all together and tears the roof off of the place. The songs include Cosmic Slop, P-Funk (wants to get funked up), Mothership Connection (Starchild), Gamin' on Ya, Undisco Kidd, Standing on the Verge, Give up the Funk, etc. This is a must see for any serious P-Funk fan. Going to their concerts now is still fun, but this show is like watching Ali box before he was stripped of the title. Breathtaking. Earthshattering.
