Rating: Summary: Amazing artistic videos Review: Love the Smashing Pumpkins music, but the videos really are something to see. Artistically, they are among the best music videos I've ever seen. Creative like Bjork imagery, it isn't run of the mill camerawork. Worth seeing for the visual aspects.
Rating: Summary: Solution to the Camera Icon Review: A previous reviewer mentioned that there was an icon of a camera throughout every video. I too, experienced this problem. The solution is in the settings of your DVD player, not the DVD itself. I was going to return this video collection to where I bought it for this very reason. The guy behind the counter took the DVD and played it on a setup in the store and it didn't have the icon. He said that it sounded like it was for when multi-angles were present and I said I know that already. He then proceeded to explain to me on how to turn that off in my DVD settings. On your DVD remote...not TV remote, the DVD one...there's a settings button. Click it and go to 'Display' or something labeled like it, from there find 'On Screen Display' and choose Off. It's just that simple. I went directly from the store to my house and I've now seen the entire DVD collection and I have to admit, the sound quality could be better, and the menu is not user friendly or intuiative. Plus I was steamed at that short movie 'Try'. I thought it was going to be a short film about the Smashing Pumpkins. What a let down. If you're going to add something like that to a bands video collection and call it a special feature, at least make it related to the other content on the DVD. So, bottomline...it's good for the price I paid for it to have most of the videos in one place, but if another edition with superior sound & better special features comes out it will be replaced.
Rating: Summary: Good collection Review: 20 TRACKS - that's more than necessary! For this I must credit SP for not ripping off the fans. It's quite a gift. I've been waiting for bands like Soundgarden and Nirvana to release their videos, but Smashing Pumpkins & AIC have released theirs. Kudos!
Rating: Summary: A Definite Must Have! Review: For anyone who's either a Smashing Pumpkins fan or not, this is a must have DVD of SP's music videos. Nearly all of the Smashing Pumpkins videos are contained on this DVD, with multiple choices for viewing each video: you can either watch the video with music, the video with commentary, the outtakes with music or the outtakes with commentary, etc. The menues are laid out very well and easy to follow. Easily the best part about this DVD is the short video 'Try' by Jonas Akerlund near the end of the DVD which is a 15 minute video on the drug culture: this is no flighty short film: it's very intense and very well done - this alone makes the DVD worth buying!
Rating: Summary: I wish I could have enjoyed this more.... Review: As far as video collections go, this DVD is sub-par. It doesn't credit the interviews/commentaries with anybody, so we really have no idea where they came from. All i'm really asking for is a peice of paper that says these are actual commentaries. If it weren't for how much they seem to be commentaries, i would think they were just sound bites from interviews that were kind of just slapped together. There are two videos which really stuck out, though, and made me change my rating from two stars to three and those are Geek USA and An Ode To No One. As a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan, these two are well received, as a consumer the DVD is not. If you want to see a well put together DVD collection of videos check out the beastie boys dvd anthology.
Rating: Summary: I love it! Review: The videos are great (of course), and you can always choose to see the outtakes, or the commentaries, and etc. I could sit and watch for hours...
