Summary: Great band! Slapped together DVD
Review: With all that this DVD could have been, I was throughly disappointed. While I do love the music videos & some of the commentary was interesting, the basic format of the DVD was total garbage. The idea to hide an advertised track (untitled) is just assenine! In addition, the selection of tracks leaves a lot to be desired. If Virgin put any effort into this DVD they could have gotten the rights to 'the end is the beginning is the end' (without it, this is NOT a complete disc). & why in the world would they choose 'an ode to no one' of all their live performances? The 'short film' try is [awful]. it's an attempt to remake the film "trainspotting" in 15 minutes by bashing you over the head with every ...cliche' you can think of. this DVD gets 3 stars purely because of the videos enclosed, especially the 3 A+ videos (today, 1979, & tonight tonight), but no kudos to virgin records who decided to capitolize on the pumpkins' popularity one more time by slapping together this compilation in 15 minutes.

Summary: not so smashing
Review: admittedly, everything from Gish, Siamese Dream, and Mellon Collie is glorious and wonderful. everything afterwards reaks like hot garbage. am i the only one who thinks Billy looks like Uncle Fester in "everlasting gaze"? what i like about this DVD is that it gives me the opportunity to see the few videos i never got a chance to see, such as "Cherub Rock" or "Siva", but i really could have lived without the post-Mellon Collie stuff. but that's just me, and i could be wrong.

Summary: DVD is a lemon but great video collection
Review: Anybody who is considering buying the Smashing Pumpkins DVD needs to be made aware that he or she may end up with a defective copy. The copy I got skips on Stand Inside Your Love. It seems to me that Virgin Records did not use a very effective manufacturing technique and just made as many DVDs as fast as possible without making sure they work. Some DVD features on some copies don't work, some skip, and some of them have scratches. I don't know if Virgin Records is aware of these problems or if they even care. They don't seem to be doing anything about it. I tried to go to http://www.virginrecords.com/ and they had no site where you can place complaints or any info on how you can contact Virgin. For more info about the various errors that are being discovered from these lemon DVDs, read the message boards at http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/. There you will find that it is very common to end up with a lemon copy. If you must have this wonderful collection of music videos now, I suggest you get the VHS if you can. Maybe over time, the problems with the DVDs will get fixed.

Summary: good buy
Review: Don't have too much to add to what has been said. This DVD is great. My only (small) gripe is the transfer appears to have been from a high-grade video, so don't expect the hollywood-class dvd clarity you are used to. still better than a VHS tape.

Summary: Smashingly good set of videos
Review: Among many things that can be said about Billy Corgan, one would have to say he really knows his films, and the very cool thing about Pumpkins videos are the way in which Corgan incorporates the styles of various filmmakers with a mixture of his own personality. The best example of this is on the "Today" video, where Corgan dresses up as an ice cream truck driver and heads out to the desert, and we're given visual allusions to Antonioni's "Zabriskie Point". The real beauty of this particular video is its lack of pretension, as the Pumpkins were always at their best when they maintained a sense of humor about themselves, and if you've never seen the end of "Rocket", I guarantee you'll laugh out loud. The other early videos from this collection are no less fascinating to watch, but unfortunately the charming Billy Corgan Ice Cream Man transforms into Billy Corgan Nosferatu Man, and the Pumpkins start to seriously wallow in their own pretentious excess. However, this complaint is minor compared to an overall stunning set of videos presented on this DVD.

Review: I'll be the first to admit that when I first heard the Pumpkins I was not amused at all. Do you remember MTV's "120 Minutes" with Kevin Seal? They used to play "Siva", which was OK, but not up to the amazing music sounds that were coming down at the time.

Later, with the release of "Siamese Dreams" the Pumpkins worked their way into my collection, and before long the whole pile of B sides and releases infiltrated *heavy rotation*.

This memory was all too familiar when I picked up the Greatest Hits DVD yesterday...

YOU HAVE TO GET THIS DISK. The greatness of the Pumpkins became evident later, but the whole blurry perspective is painfully obvious from this DVD. There's not a lemon here, with amazing performances in regular MTV videos and live footage from the good old Cabaret Metro in Chicago and a fascinating short film revolving around "Try".

Billy may be a bit pompous, but the music doesn't lie. Today is the greatest day of my life....

Review: A must have for any Pumpkins fan. The videos are awesome, the extras rock, the short film was neat, and above all - the commentaries are great. I can't say enough good things about this package.

Summary: SP DVD
Review: This DVD collection is a really good tribute to the Smashing Pumpkins. They're one my all time favorite rock bands.I've been following their music since the Gish era, when they were an "indie-band." Billy Corgan is the most talented and the most original song writer of all time. Anyway, on to the DVD. I was a bit disappoited with this. One, the video for The Beginning is the End is the Beginning is not on there because of Warner Bros. owning the rights to that song. Two, the so-call "propose glyich" on The Everlasting Gaze video. Three, there should have been more live footage of their last performance at last year's Metro show. These are the disappointments of the DVD. In all, it's is a real good DVD because it has almost all their music videos, starting from the Gish era to the Machina era + the Untitled video. I'd stongly recommend it to any Pumpkins fan. If those of you who has the DVD already, here's a tip on unlocking the Untitled video: highlight "Extra" and push the left directional button on your DVD remote.
