Summary: A Great Collection of Videos From a Great Band
Review: This DVD is great. It has all of the Smashing Pumpkins videos, along with commentary, behind the scenes footage, and outtakes. In my opinion, not one Smashing Pumpkins video is bad. Some of their music videos are my favorites, like "Ava Adore" and "Today". Along with the videos is a live performance of "Geek U.S.A." which is very good, a live performance of "An Ode to No One", a collection of clips from the early Pumpkins shows backed by "I Am One", a short film that shows some of the outtakes from "Try, Try, Try" along with some more insight into the story of the video, and a secret glimpse into the recording of "Untitled". I highly recommend this DVD to any Smashing Pumpkins fan or anyone who wants to see highly creative and original music videos.

Summary: I don't even own a Pumpkins album but bought it regardless -
Review: The Pumpkins have been a band that lingers in that fine world between cult-status and commercial-giants, much like Radiohead and Weezer. Everyone's heard at least one Smashing Pumpkins song (whether it be the staple "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" or alt-pop of "1979"). And yes, the DVD features all of their videos with more options than you can shake a stick at, but if you judge it just by the videos themselves ... it's something incredible all together.

While their first videos were typical flash-edit rock sprees (similar to the Flaming Lips video for "Unconciously Screaming"). The Siamese Dream clips are pretty good, with "Today" being a highlight (ice cream!), "Disarm" being nice and simple, and "Rocket" being about as sell-out-looking as you've ever seen them.

Yet, the clips for Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness are worth seeing. The "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" is a leap to maturity (especially following "Rocket"), "1979" remaining a classic, "Zero" being a little sub-par, and "Tonight Tonight" being nothing short of incredible.

And though the albums themselves started fumbling in sales and reviews, the "last videos" are their best. Adore lead-in "Ava Adore" is a wonderful creep-fest, and "Perfect" acting as a visually stimulating sequel to "1979". Then comes the Machina vids, which are astonishing. "The Everlasting Gaze" is a simple performance video, but is incredibly intense; "Stand Inside Your Love" is a lavish black-and-white spectacle of sheer emotion; and the incredibly underappreciated "Try Try Try", one of Machina's best songs, serving as an emotionally distrubing masterpiece of the format (the full length "Try" is even more harrowing).

The Pumpkins leave a massive, confusing, and beautiful legacy. Some may debate the merits of their songs, especially the latter ones, but few can deny the passion they brought to music videos. Even non-Pumpkin fans (like myself) would enjoy it immensely.

Summary: Essential pumpkins
Review: Besides the fact that with one DVD you can get all the released videos for album singles, this cd contains a very innovative approach to showing off video extras. Each song has video for the released version, as well as a reel of extra footage, most of which was not on the video origionally. To go with the video, each song has the cd version of the song to accompany the music video, and at least 1 track of commentary. Together this gives you at least 4 combinations for each song, and in some songs with extra audio there are 6 or 8 variations. This means that even when you have sat down for an hour and watched all the music videos, there are still countless combinations left. Besides this, there are some extras such as a short film based off of the song "try try try", and live versions of "an ode to no one" from the last show in chicago, as well as a live version of cherub rock with a humorous preview.

All in all, this DVD is an absolute must for any pumpkins fanatic, and even a great but for a casual pumpkin fan. It combines an incredable mix of music videos with one of the best dvd setups out there. I have watched hours upon hours and I still go back to watch it every few weeks.

Summary: Perfect
Review: Pretty much definitive.Everything a Pumpkins fan could ask for.
This anthology is pretty much a catalogue of the best videos of the 90s.They're all so innovative and unique;from the intimacy of 1979 to the theatrics of Tonight Tonight to the grimness of Try Try Try.The Pumpkins took the art of video making where few others wished to explore. It's great to witness the maturation and growth of the band from their videos from the Gish era right up to their breakup.
Classic videos, obviously but the DVD's got some good extras too. The commentaries are excellent. They offer great insight creation element of the videos and they enhance your enjoyment of them.Jonus Ackerlund displayed his usual light touch with the Try Try Try video and accompanying short film. It's certainly powerful and disturbing but isn't really saying we haven't already heard in other junkie dramas.
Overall, this DVD is essential.Along with the Beastie Boys Anthology,it's the best music DVD out there. It kept me going until Zwan got started.

Summary: Great DVD Despite Audio Flaw
Review: This is a great DVD - all your favorite video's are here alone with outtakes and audio commentary.

My only gripe is the sound on the "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" video - the bottom end of the sound (bass and drums) randomly drops in and out, possibly a bad mix. Has anyone else noticed this?

Summary: noticed what was missing
Review: I bought this DVD right when it came out, since I loved the Smashing Pumpkins. However, I couldn't get the last track to play on my DVD, nor did it work on any of my friends' either. Also missing from this collection is the video to "The End is the Beginning is the End" from the 'Batman and Robin' movie. While it wasn't their greatest video, I was still disappointed to have all but that one on DVD. Otherwise a great buy, I couldn't get past the missing video or the track that wouldn't play.

Summary: Amazing content!
Review: As you can tell from the other reviews of this disc, the content is great! HOWEVER, I find myself wishing for a 5.1 DTS mix, or even a Dolby. Don't get me wrong, the sound is passable, but it's basically the CD track. They seem to have boosted the low end considearbly, and I find myself turning down the subwoofer a bit on some tracks. I guess I'm a bit of an audio enthusiast, but that's the way it is. If you don't care about that sort of thing so much, this disc is a 5-star. It just seems lacking after watching the NIN or TEA PARTY dvds.

Summary: What More Could You Ask For?
Review: 17 videos, 3 live performances, and a short film by Jonas Akerlund. The huge amount of material on here alone is worthy of 5 stars. As if it wasn't enough just to provide us with videos, each video gives you the option of viewing the official video, or an outtakes track. They also give the option of listening to the song, or hearing the commentary track. Every video. Not just one or two. Although it would be nice if there was more live footage on it, it doesn't really matter anymore since Virgin just released a new DVD with 2 and a half hours of live footage. The videos on this DVD are definitely "unique", all beautifully shot in their own way. The commentary tracks offer lots of insight into how the videos were made, and the mentality of the band. What was James Iha thinking when he wore a dress in the "Today" video? Why did the whole band wear dresses in the video for "Stand Inside Your Love"? These questions and many more are answered in the commentary tracks. In a couple videos, there is a documentary track, in addition to the commentary, and for "1979", there is a track telling the story of how the original tape was lost.

Highly recommended for any self-respecting Smashing Pumpkins fan.

Summary: Smash!
Review: Smashing Pumpkins continue to influence so many bands even now. This DVD captures many of their best songs and shows just how and why they were/are one of the best bands of the last 20 years. The sounds quality of this DVD is EXCELLENT! Picture quality is also way up there. Seems like there was a lot of care and time taken to ensure top audio and video quality and it shows, so you won't be disappointed there.

However the thing that may disappoint you, also the thing about this that did disappoint me and is the reason why I only gave this DVD 4 stars rather than 5, is that many of the Pumpkins best songs are not on here. I understand that this DVD is a collection of their music videos and many of these songs were never put into this format but they could have atleast shown them in live performances. Speaking of which this is the second and only other disappointing thing about this DVD. There are only two live performances on here. There are still atleast 14-15 songs on here, however.

On the upside, along with the great sound and visuals this DVD offers, there are also MANY options. When you select an album you want to see music videos off of, you then are asked which song you'd like to see played, then whether or not you'd like to see the making of the video or the video itself. You also get options of commentary during the video. You could watch this DVD atleast 5 or 6 times before you see it all. So replay value is high.

Like I said before, there aren't many live performances, and there should have been several more songs on here, but definately don't let this stop you from purchasing this DVD. Its well worth it.
