Rating: Summary: Rejoicing in Billy's perfectionism Review: The beauty of this dvd is not because it has all the videos from SP's career. It's not because the sound is great and the picture is excellent. It's not because two live performances were included, nor because the short film 'Try' is on there. It's not even because the menus are easy to use and understand. Those things all add up to a great dvd, but the reason this dvd gets 5 stars is this: each and every song has 4 viewing options. First, you can select either the official video or an alternate 'outtakes' version; some videos have a making-of documentary in place of outtakes. Next, you can select either the music track or a commentary/documentary track for both the official video or the documentary/outtakes video. Also, some tracks have even more bonuses: '1979' has an extra 'Lost Tapes' track that tells the story of how the original video was lost. If that was not enough, each commentary/documentary track has comments from each band member (though mostly Billy) as well as the directors. This dvd is much, much better than the standard video-hits collection. This is not a thrown-together money maker. This is obviously an effort to give the fans what they want, and it delivers. Ever wonder why Jimmy is late to everything? Ever wonder what the band was playing at the house party in '1979'? Ever wonder how many guitars were smashed in 'The Everlasting Gaze'? Then this is the dvd for you. This is an absolute must for every Pumpkins fan.

Rating: Summary: Awsome!!!! Review: With the release of this DVD pumpkins fans are finally able to watch the videoes any time they want. This is an awsome DVD and should not be missed by any puumpkins fan. I find it highly amusing that so many have reviewed this album without even seeing it!!! The track listing is as follows: Siva Rhinoceros Cherub Rock Today Disarm Rocket (Two versions) Bullet With Butterfly Wings 1979 Zero Tonight,Tonight Thirty-Three Ava Adore Perfect The Everlasting Gaze Stand Inside Your Love Try, Try, Try Geek USA (live in Seattle) An Ode to no One (live at the final metro performance) I am One (live footage) Try- A Short film by Jonas Akerlund Untitled (?- will explain below) In addition to the videos there is commentary about each video from the band and the directors. Also with the commentary are outtakes and unreleased footage. So basically there are two versions of each song (MTV version and unreleased footage version) and they can be played with just the music or with the music in the background and commentary on the videos. I Am One is a previously unreleased video of some live performances with the studio album music playing. The two live tracks are awsome!! The short film is pretty cool...its a full length version of the story told in the Try, Try, Try by Jonas Akerlund. Kind of disturbing...very cool. All the videos on here kick (...)!! The commentary and extra unrealesed footage of each video give insight into the videos and provide an interesting look at the band and thier career. The End is the Beginning is not here but personnally I could do without Batman Forever clips anyways. My only complaint (and hence 4 stars) is that I cant get to the Untitled video. It is either not there or there's some secret to getting to it- very weird. Besides this inconvenience I love it!! This is something that I (a huge pumpkins fan) will definately watch a lot. Several of these videos were scarcly (or never) seen on MTV. If you love the Pumpkins, thier music, or the videos, this is a must buy DVD. P.S. I finally figured out "untitled": go to the extras and hit left with the directional function...its a behind the scenes making of video...not the official one for MTV....
Rating: Summary: Good for collectors and creative minds alike. Review: Even if you aren't a fan of The Smashing Pumpkins, if you have any inclination towards visual art, film, editing, cinematography, direction, lighting, or design aesthetic, you'll find a lot to enjoy about this collection of the Pumpkins' videos. From first to last, every one of them offers something new and original. All videos can be watched with director and band commentary turned on, or they can be watched with the commentary and behind-the-scenes "making of" footage. And of course, you can watch them just as music videos, as well. Long time fans will appreciate the nostalgic look back that is given by Corgan, Iha, and Jimmy in much of the commentary. The directors also give humorous and insightful commentary, on subjects such as how the video was made, or why the given visual theme was chosen. Unfortunately, there is no commentary from ex-bassist, co-founding member D'arcy, who was with the Pumpkins for the majority of the band's lifespan. Nor is there any commentary from her replacement, ex Hole bassist Melissa auf der Maur. Considering she is featured in three of the band's videos and the live performance of "Ode to No One" it would have been nice to hear her thoughts. There are two live performances, the aformentioned Ode to No One, and a performance of Geek USA from 1994. Both are interesting to watch, particularly the former, which comes from the band's last live performance in December 2000 and is an absolute thrash-fest showing the amazing talent of the band. Don't expect to see any extensive "on the road" footage, though, nor hear any mention of the breakup or D'arcy's expulsion. They stick strictly to the videos. The full version of "Try" - for which the short won VH1's award for visionary video in 2001 - is also included. A short montage of the Pumpkins in the studio recording what would later become Machina II, their last released, online-only album, ends the collection. It's worthy of any collector's shelf, certainly, but the real enjoyment lies in seeing the tremendous creativity and art-house-like attendancy to symbolism that marked the Pumpkins style so strongly, here all in one place to look back on and remember.
Rating: Summary: A Definite Must Have! Review: For anyone who's either a Smashing Pumpkins fan or not, this is a must have DVD of SP's music videos. Nearly all of the Smashing Pumpkins videos are contained on this DVD, with multiple choices for viewing each video: you can either watch the video with music, the video with commentary, the outtakes with music or the outtakes with commentary, etc. The menues are laid out very well and easy to follow. Easily the best part about this DVD is the short video 'Try' by Jonas Akerlund near the end of the DVD which is a 15 minute video on the drug culture: this is no flighty short film: it's very intense and very well done - this alone makes the DVD worth buying!
Rating: Summary: I wish I could have enjoyed this more.... Review: but whenever I'd get the the end of the Siamese Dream videos, and the beginning of the MCIS videos, they would skip like hell. I tried playing it on two different players with the same results. Dont know whats wrong, but oh well. I just really wanted to see Tonight Tonight. It seems though as if it was only those videos, all the others that I watched worked right.
Rating: Summary: Defective Copy - Great Movie from what I can see Review: Only the 1st layer works, everything after that is choppy, barely audible. I tested it out on My PS2, Nec nd2500a, and Toshiba SDR6012 DVD-Drives. Same trouble on all three. I see others have gotten bummer copies here as well. I am going to try for an exchange, the content on this DVD is a must have!
Rating: Summary: just doesn't measure up Review: As far as video collections go, this DVD is sub-par. It doesn't credit the interviews/commentaries with anybody, so we really have no idea where they came from. All i'm really asking for is a peice of paper that says these are actual commentaries. If it weren't for how much they seem to be commentaries, i would think they were just sound bites from interviews that were kind of just slapped together. There are two videos which really stuck out, though, and made me change my rating from two stars to three and those are Geek USA and An Ode To No One. As a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan, these two are well received, as a consumer the DVD is not. If you want to see a well put together DVD collection of videos check out the beastie boys dvd anthology.
Rating: Summary: I love it! Review: The videos are great (of course), and you can always choose to see the outtakes, or the commentaries, and etc. I could sit and watch for hours...
Rating: Summary: Definitely worth owning Review: Undoubtadly a must have for anyone who has ever considered themselves a fan of the Smashing Pumpkins, this Greatest Hits Video Collection DVD is one of the most well put together best of DVD's on the market today. Featuring every Pumpkins video (including fan favorites "Disarm", "1979", and "Tonight, Tonight" as well as live clips of "Geek USA" and "An Ode to No One". Never before seen videos of "I Am One" and "Untitled" are added bonuses, as is the "Try" short film directed by Jonas Akerlund (whose directed disturbing and gritty videos by Prodigy and Metallica as well), plus a commentary by the band (mainly Billy Corgan) and never before seen outtakes all add this DVD as an absolute must have. Do yourself a favor, if your even a casual fans of the Smashing Pumpkins, there is no excuse not to own this.
