Rating: Summary: A grave dissappointment. Review: I am surprised an artist of Prince's supposed stature could allow such an embarrassing, poorly chosen, badly transferred selection of "hits" to be released under his name. Most of the best songs and videos are omitted, and instead there are loads of awful filler tracks filmed in mock-concert style - yeuch! The worst of the 80's are here. Such a missed opportunity - it could have been brilliant.
Rating: Summary: Hits will Kick Your Ass Review: I bought the VHS and then I got the laserdisc. I am going to order this because you don't have to be the number one Prince fan (that's my job) to make this a required part of your music video collection. I can only imagine what the digital transfer brings to these vintage clips. The LD is dynamic so I am sure the DVD is even better. Forget what you know about Michael Jackson videos. He's great but if you appreciate real rock and roll performances by the artist that writes, produces, and performs all the music on all the tracks, Prince is unavoidable. When you considered the time span that these classic videos cover as well as the various musical forms and genres, you have to be amazed. His presence and charisma make you wonder why he has not made any movies or films in the last ten years. Simply stated, Prince video of this magnitude are guaranteed to kick your ass!
Rating: Summary: Prince is the Best Review: I give this DVD 5 Stars because...Its Prince! It has a great selection of music videos and shows the timeline of Prince's talent and performance! MUST BUY!
Rating: Summary: Uh-oh. This DVD was a mistake. Review: I won't spend a lot of time on this one. I borrowed this from a friend to see if I was interested in purchasing it here online and could not understand why oh why is a hits DVD containing everything but. When Doves Cry is sorely missing --OUCH! Also, Let's Go Crazy, Purple Rain, America, Thieves In The Temple, Batdance, Scandalous, Automatic, Anotherloverholenyohead, Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?, Sexuality, I Wish U Heaven are out. Very sad. This DVD is only for a HUGE Prince fan, not the normal to high fan. Some of the videos are bad transfers too. Still looking for the day when companies consistenly produce remastered, state-of-the-art transfers in music videos like they do with movies. There are some awesome music DVD's out there. This one is a stinkeroo.
Rating: Summary: oh PUH-LEEZE! Review: Lame, lame, lame, lame, lame, lame. I refuse to buy this, and i agree with the other fans who say SO MUCH IS MISSING! It's like WB went out of it's way to put out the absolute WORST COLLECTION of the man's vids. WHAT ABOUT THAT 15 MIN VERSION OF AMERICA? or i would die 4u/baby i'm a star w/ sheila e.'s band and the revolution? what about prince and sheila e. doing 'a love bizarre' live? NOW THOSE ARE VIDEOS I WANT TO OWN! especially that extended concert version of 'america' with eddie m. and eric leeds battling sax's! at the time the Revolution was CLEARLY the best band in the world, and then when prince is yelling crazy things at the crowd and then gets on the drums at the end still gives me chills upon chills everytime i watch it . Hey head execs at WB: YOU GUYS ARE IDIOTS. You obviously own the rights to all this stuff. Here's an idea! RELEASE IT so i don't have to keep breaking out the ol' vcr.
Rating: Summary: He's [playing] us again! Review: Prince at one time was one of the most consistent, prolific artists. His output in the 90's & now this new century is weak. Here is a collection of a thimbleful of his existing videos. Some great, some total [bad] (Peach, Cream, 7) & some edited short (Controversy, I Would Die 4 U). There are unfortunately so many videos missing from this collection (Sexuality, Let's Work, Delirious, Let's Pretend We're Married, Automatic, When Doves Cry(!), Let's Go Crazy, Take Me WIth You, America, Mountains, Girls & Boys, Anotherloverholenyohead, I Wish U Heaven, Batdance, Party Man, Thieves In The Temple & who knows how many other videos he's made! What's going on? I hope someone out there knows there are a lot of Prince fans waiting for something more complete. May u live 2 c the dawn? May we live 2 c something good released!
Rating: Summary: THE ARTIST deserves better Review: the songs offered here are not the best of Prince's catalog and these videos are not the best of what he's done. Where's 'When Doves Cry"? Where's any performance of "Purple Rain"? The selection of songs are weak! I'm a devout Price fans but "Cream" and "Uptown" should be on NO "hits" collection.
Rating: Summary: Will we ever get enough? Review: The typical complaint about this collection is that how could the music of Prince be packaged into a 15-song set? How true. The fact is, even if there are 30 songs found in this collection, we would still not be able to get enough of the man's greatness. This was exactly the way I felt when I bought Hits 1+2+B sides. After playing the 3-CD set over and over, I would still feel the urge to listen to those songs that are not found on the set, e.g. Arms of Orion, Take Me With U, Paiseley Park, Around The World In A Day, Private Joy, etc. Still, the fact that we can't get enough of the man should not be justification for awarding the collection any less star than it deserves. Every single video/song contained in this collection is great! For this reason, this DVD should be awarded 5 stars, nothing less. This marketing people should have packaged this as The Hits Collection Volume 1, and plan for additional volumes (2, 3, 4, ...) so that every Prince fan out there could truly be satisfied. Then again, will we ever get enough of Prince?
Rating: Summary: "When Doves Cry" Is Missing? Review: Then why bother? This is terrible for the true Prince fan, Warner needs to come out with a better DVD compilation... Truly disappointing!
