Rating: Summary: The Way Concert Video Should Be...... Review: "Compelling" is the best word to describe this concert dvd. Filmed with a minimum of cameras, edits, production - allowing the viewer to focus on the artist and his music - the way it should be. Combine that with Buckley's power, passion, presence, terrific band, great sound mix and magnificent songs makes this a true gift to Buckley fans. Not ever seeing Jeff Buckley live has always been a big disappointment for me - this dvd fills that void.
Rating: Summary: ... Review: Best Concert DVD Ever. The quality is amazing. I have never seen anything so well recorded. It's beautiful. The performance is spectacular. I was stunned by the end of the first song. I could go on and on, but I'll sum it up and say this DVD alone is worth buying a DVD player for.
Rating: Summary: Lacking in quality Review: Buckley's cool, and so is this concert. However, the audio is just terrible on this dvd. I watched it first on a small tv and just thought it was a problem with the speakers in the tv. Then I watched it on a really good audio system and realized that there was a problem with this DVD. The bonus tracks are fine, but the live concert audio is disappointing to say the least.
Rating: Summary: Of all the ironies Review: Flashback to senior year prom, 1995. The week before my smoldering indie-rocker of a date brings it to my attention that Jeff was going to be playing the same night. We debate between concert and prom because we are both really big fans of his (in fact the reason we started dating resulted from the mutual admission of "Lover You Should've Come Over" as being our favorite song). The verdict, not altogether irrational, was that in terms of importance, a defining high school evening with good friends and lovers was paramount. After all, we could see him on another tour...Fans know the rest of the story. Thank God (I would only mention his name in relation to this artist) for this DVD, which captures the could-have-been concert at the Metro.
Rating: Summary: Magical and touching Review: Granted I'm a full fledged fan of the late, great Jeff Buckley but I think anyone who appreciates artistic genius will enjoy this amazing concert. More than just talented, poetic, thoughtful and blessed with an amazing voice this blistering guitar/songwriter was sharp and funny. His humor comes across along with the obvious rapport he had with his fans. Unafraid. A refreshing human presence in the sterile wasteland of music machinery.. he had soul, wit and dash. Oh yeah, he was a hell of a commanding performer that used his voice to mesmerize and his guitar to torch everything else in its musical path. Pure grace. Rest in peace Jeff Buckley.
Rating: Summary: You heard him, now see him! Review: Here is your only chance to see the great talent of Jeff Buckley, live and in person. Sadly, he lost his life in a swimming accident, and the world will be diminished, musically, by this tragedy. However, some of his finest work is captured here. This concert gives the viewer a chance to see a young talent ply his skills with pure artistry. His guitar is captivating, and his voice is haunting. Give yourself a musical treat, and pick this DVD up. The only reason I gave it 4, instead of 5 stars, is because of a digital flaw in the song Lilac Wine. The program stalls in this song. I checked on more than one DVD player, and they both manifested the same pause. Other than that... a great buy!
Rating: Summary: Missing Jeff... Review: I fell for Jeff Buckley's music with the release of Grace. He sang with such a beautiful passion. He had a true gift for creating emotion evoking lyrics. I never got to see him perform, and I feel lucky that this live performance exists.
Rating: Summary: It's Never Over... Review: I have been waiting anxiously for this DVD to come out for a very long time, and was not let down by it at all. From the amazing full concert footage, to the haunting Grace Electronic Press Kit, this DVD is a must have for all Buckley fans. We get to see a glimpse of Jeff in an intimate club setting and it's really nice to have captured that moment and to be able to go back to it, and be amazed over and over. It is truly a sad and beautiful thing all at once. I urge all music lovers to give Jeff Buckley a listen, and try not to be impressed. The only thing that I would have also included, would have been all of Jeff's videos. Other than that, this is perfect. Thanks Mary, for leaving the light on.
Rating: Summary: Jeff's Chicago Gig Review: I have never had the opportunity to see Jeff play live when he was alive. Although I've been and always will be captivated by his recorded material, I was slightly disappointed by this concert. Perhaps that's my fault. With all the gusto and drama of Buckley's voice, I imagined him along the lines of early Springsteen, where he would seamlessly weave story and song on stage to the point of performance art. It was interesting to see that Jeff's song breaks concentrated more on adjusting amp levels and guitar tuning than story telling or posturing. That's not a bad thing. Jeff jokes and spares with the audience in a down to earth way, inflicting more drama in his songs than in the moments in between them. Less can be more in this case because once's he slamming and crooning a song, you're mesmerized. Indeed, my disappointment was short lived.
The sound quality isn't as good as it could be. I had to turn up my speakers to get a concert-like sound. However, if you're a Jeff fan - this is an important performance to add to your collection. Since Jeff was only with us briefly, every precious moment captured on video or film is a treasure. I recommend this highly. Just don't expect the greatest sound, and look for the magic in the songs.
Rating: Summary: The greatest concert moment of my life! Review: I haven't actually seen the DVD - BUT I WAS AT THIS SHOW, sitting next to one of the cameramen who filmed it. It was the single most incredible live musical experience I have ever had - I thought the concert was being taped for a TV program - had no idea about the DVD - I'm going to purchase it RIGHT NOW, and would recommend anyone else do the same - the only thing is, if you have never seen Jeff live, you will be filled with longing and regret that you did not.
