Summary: Quite good, but....
Review: Metropolis Pt. 2 is one of the best albums I've ever bought. I watched a bit of the Metropolis 2000 DVD, and it looked good. Not owning a DVD player, I bought the VHS and sat down for an evening's entertainment.

My god, this video was SO not worth ...(Canadian) I paid for it. Technically it's well-done, but the content is simply not that much more interesting than listening to the album. Video clips that serve to get the plotline across are strewn so thickly that you really don't need the rest of the concert to understand what's going on.

On top of this, the concert is a rather boring affair, consisting of mostly: Shot of Labrie, shot of Petrucci, shot of Portnoy, shot of Myung, shot of Labrie banging his tambourine, shot of Petrucci again... and so on. Oh yeah, and Rudess is in there too. He gets about 1/4 the screen time of everyone else, even during his godly ragtime solo in Dance of Eternity.

To anyone thinking of buying this video: DON'T. Get the DVD or you will regret it.

Summary: Only for the True Dream Theater fan
Review: Mike Portnoy is a terrific drummer, songwriter and lyricist ... but he is not a director. The cinematography would have been great if Dream Theater was some silly glam metal band like Poison or Twisted Sister. And the flashback (acting?)scenes were pathetic, at best.

So why 4 stars? Because the music was spectacular (duh?), the extra songs were a nice shift fron the concept, especially A Change of Seasons (the best song the band has or will ever make), and the behind the scenes additions were well-done.

Next time Mike, try a little moody lighting. It goes better with the moody and emotional music you guys make so brilliantly.

Summary: Outstanding
Review: It took me almost a year to realize what a masterpiece Scenes was, and this DVD, complete with a hilarious hidden feature, extra songs, and commentary, just takes the cake. If you are a Dream Theater fan, it's a SIN not to own this.

Summary: Goddamb, this is GOOD
Review: Dream Theater are incredible. This video captures the essence of their phenominal live show and includes some truly killer chops from each member. The instrumental sections are probably my favorite (especially "Dance of Eternity"), and the gospel singers included in certain numbers fit perfectly. My only complaint is probably the ecsessive amount of video clips played during each song. I suppose they're necessary for follwing the plotline (that's right, "plotline"), but some of it was played during great parts of different songs and was just uncalled for.

Other than that, this video is pretty much flawless and shows you what an overwhelming display of musicianship these five men boast.

Summary: From a non-Hardcore Dream Theater fan
Review: First off I want to say that I love Dream Theater and they are perhaps some of the best musicians that have ever walked the face of the planet, but this DVD leaves a little to be desired. First off, NO SOLOS!! Why? The whole resaon I bought this DVD was to see a Mike Portnoy drum solo. The second thing I did not like was the very low budget independent film [stuff] between all the songs, what is that?? It's like listening to a Dream Theater CD during [bad] movie night on the Sundance Channel. Another thing that disturbed me was that it seemed like what you see is what is played on the giant monitor at the concerts, goofy effects and other things. A must have for die-hard fans but casual non-musician fans stay away.

Summary: BUY THIS NOW
Review: THIS IS THE BEST MUSIC VIDEO I HAVE EVER SEEN. This is better than any concert I have ever seen. I have no idea what the songs are called or how they go. I just know that the musicianship is awesome. Everyone is so tight. Don't hesitate!!!!!

Summary: Awesome DVD, But Dolby 2.0?
Review: This is a great DVD as far as sound and picture quality. It is well worth the $$.But I am disappointed that the sound is not Dolby 5.1, or DTS. This is probably not every viewers #1 feature to look for, but if you love Dream Theater, chances are you are picky about sound quality and prefer 5.1 or DTS. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds damn good....

Summary: Brilliant
Review: With all of the delays and stuff ups prior to the release, I was expecting bad audio sync and various other problems. I have heard a bad live recording of James before and expected the same vocal quality aswell.

The Truth is however that this DVD was as complete shock. I first listened to the entire DVD through and at the exact moment 'Dance Of Eternity' finished I was blown away. If your into DT and liked SFaM Get it NOW!!! There are also visual queues to the Story line that fit in very well and make the whole story a lot more interesting.

Total Sensory Overload!!.

Summary: Great video, disappointing audio
Review: All right, all DT fans are talkin bout what a great show it was, and in this DVD there's no question -- DT's musical talents are unparalleled! I've always admired Portnoy's drumming skills, not to mention his awesome drum kit setup. However, the audio here really sux. What a way to spoil what could potentially be the greatest DVD of all time! As a serious hi-fi enthusiast, I have to admit that I may be more forgiving in minor flaws on the video side and hey, I was willing to whack down my acceptance standards on the audio side of this one(if only to have in my collection one of the best music concerts on earth)! But I just can't live with the audio on this one -- it's so thin and for a while I thought audio signal was only coming out in PCM stereo! But even some PCM stereo-encoded DVDs sound better than this. It's so disappointing!!! I'm returning this DVD to amazon. To the manufacturers: Please investigate and correct the very poor audio quality. C'mon guys, DT as well as we, DT fans deserve better than this!

Review: IF YOU MISSED THIS TOUR, PICK THIS UP!! THESE GUYS HAVE TO BE THE BEST BUNCH OF PLAYERS EVER ASSEMBLED AS FAR AS INSTRUMENTAL VIRTUOSITY! WHAT YOU'VE HEARD'S ALL TRUE!! I DO WISH THEY'D HAVE PUT IT OUT IN 5.1, BUT IT'S A MUST-HAVE!
