Rating: Summary: The Best Live Performance Video that I have Review: I dont have much to say about this except its the best most amazing thing that I have ever seen in my life. O yes there are just so many problems with this tape JUST KIDDING!! this rules and if your a DT fan buy it!! I dont care if u dont like them if u can appreciate talent in music BUY IT. Theres only one downfall of VHS NOT ENOUGH ON IT!! just the concert of " Scenes" but no bonus thing i guess DVD's are special or something.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This is a great show...sure there are some things about the DVD I am not crazy about (could have better video and audio quality)...but it's called BUDGET! DT does not get the budget of Santana and Dave Matthews DVD's.HOWEVER, name a DVD shot in video that is in widescreen? Video camera's shoot 4:3, that's why they are 4:3 DVD's. I'll be the first to say i'd have liked a 5.1 mix ... IF it was done well. I personally never listen to the 5.1 mix from the Sarah Mclachlan DVD...it was poorly done. The Santana and Dave Matthews 5.1 mixes are great!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Concert Video Review: For those of us who appreciate the over the top talent and virtuosity of this band, this video is a perfect example of why Dream Theater fans are such fanatics.... What is particularly special here is the great care that was taken to make this DVD release so special. First of all, the performance is awesome! Which is very cool considering the fact that it is all from the same night -- AND that the band performed for something like four hours that night. Second, the camera footage is possibly the best I have ever seen in a concert video. The multiple camera angle shots are perfect for Dream Theater when they get into the incredibly intricate instrumental passages that are contained in most of their (EPIC) songs. It's rare that you can't see something you want to in this video. I believe that drummer Mike Portnoy's involvement in this project is what made this possible. Third, most of this amazing concert is included. In addition to the 1 1/2 hours or so of the "Scenes from a Memory" performance, another hour of other footage is included (DT classics "A Change of Seasons," "Learning to Live," and "A Mind Beside Itself," each in their entirety). This release clearly makes up for some of the disappointment of their "Five Years in a Livetime" video. The virtuosity is much more on display in this one and the camera work is so much better... I won't even go there. The one fault is that the volume is a bit low during the "Scenes from a Memory" portion. It SOUNDS to me - and I could be wrong - that it has either been compressed or downsampled, because with DVD just turning it up should solve the problem. Yet somehow the midrange sounds a little thin to me, not quite full enough (a little less punch than it should have). A minor gripe though.
Rating: Summary: Great Band, Great Concert, Poor Concert DVD Review: Although it's great to finally have a Dream Theater DVD, this one falls down in several areas: 1. 4:3 aspect ratio - it should offer a widescreen (16:9) option 2. Dolby 2.0 - it should offer a 5.1 option DD or DTS 3. Too much ugly animation and video effects (the background graphics arn't good!!) - I actually felt that the video effects distracted me from the concert. 4. Building on point #3, there was far too much camera jumping - the video didn't spend more than a couple seconds ona single camera angle 5. No multiple camera angles - I realize this is an expensive feature, but it would definately solve the problem of #4 6. Building on point #5, I would really appreciate a camera angle that showed the entire stage so I could really watch the whole concert 7. What's with the deleted scenes on the DVD? Why didn't they reproduce the concert in it's entirety? In summary, while I appreciate DT's effort to produce a true "Concept" video, Scenes from New York doesn't live up to my expectations. For a comparison, watch Queensryche's Operation Livecrime - this is a great example of how a "concept" video should be produced.
Rating: Summary: This is GREAT!!! Review: Man, Dream Theater kicks some arse once more! This DVD is great. I'm a DT fan, and i have never seen them live. This DVD captures the energy and funness (if funness is a word!) of a DT concert. The music is great, could have better sound quality though. This is a must be for any DT fan. I recomend the DVD. You get so so so much more. Like when you can have the band themselfs watching the concert with you. It's friggin funny! Anycrap, YOU MUST BUY THIS DVD!!!
Rating: Summary: Impeccable production and an outstanding recording! Review: From what may just be the best band on the planet, comes not only a terrific show, but a truly 5-Star quality recording with a lot of pretty cool extras! If your a Dream Theatre fan and have a DVD player, buy this now! If your a Dream Theatre fan and dont have a DVD player, this would be the best reason you'll ever have to own one. If your not a Dream Theatre fan your not familiar with Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, John Myung and James LaBrie. All I can say is "WAKE UP!" Metropolis 2000 is an impeccable production with terrific sound and video quality that will delight all of your musical senses! Forget those bozo's that reviewed this and claimed dissapointment with the 'screen panning' or the 'Dolby v.2', I assure you that you will watch this so many times you'll wear it out! There is absolutley 'nothing' wrong with this DVD recording!!!! The extras include the full concert (again) with the sound turned down and a strategically panned band humerously commenting on each other's work throughout the show. It's absolutely hysterical! The DVD also includes a tour slide show, a half a dozen other Dream Theatre songs, lenghty Band and Crew introductions with highlights, and much more. The Video is the entire Album Metropolis 2000 - Scenes from a Memory and the Camera Work and Sound Recording quality is almost better than being there. I was at the Boston show and was absolutely blown away. I never thought they can top this work, but by capturing the show as well as they did on this DVD, they certainly proved me wrong! If there were 10 stars, I would give this a 9+ .............................BUY IT NOW!
Rating: Summary: AWESOME DVD from the best prog metal band ever! Review: Attention all Dream Theater fans: This DVD is a must have! If you've seen them live, you know what a powerful experience it is. If you saw them on their last tour, you know how great Metropolis 2000 is. On this disc, they play the entire Metropolis set. Plus there is a ton of bonus material, including a great documentary and lots of extra songs. It even includes A Change of Seasons, the 23 minute epic that they almost never play live. I can't say enough good things about this band or this DVD. Buy it now!
Rating: Summary: Dream Theater's finest. Review: I bought this DVD and was totally blown away! I've heard the band live before but I have to say that they totally outdid themselves with this. Scenes From a Memory was fantastic, and the bonus materials are great! The DVD is worth the 'Mind Beside Itself' songs by themselves. As always, the band plays great, but LaBrie's vocals were dead on that night. I developed a new respect for the band after seeing some of the stuff they do on the DVD. This is a must-have for any Dream Theater fan.
Rating: Summary: Astonishing Review: This DVD is absolutely incredible! I saw them on this tour in Denver, CO. I thought that was the ultimate performance but they topped themselves on this one. The music is flawless. James' vocals ame amazing on this recording! The deleted scenes(A mind beside itself, Learning to Live, and Change of Seasons) are worth the price alone. Buy your copy now!!!
