Rating: Summary: This is the best band ever Review: Dream Theater is without question the best band ever, I've been listening to their music for over 8 years now and their music just keeps on getting better and better. For anyone who is serious about guitar or any other instrument or someone who just wants to show off to friends. YOU HAVE TO BUY IT
Rating: Summary: Forget flowers for the wife- Buy this DVD. Review: Alrghty folks, here's the real skinny: Forget the hype about Dolby, wide screen (have you won the lottery or something?), or the sound level. When you buy this DVD, you are witnessing live musical perfection, plain and simple. It's three hours of mind-numbing, honey get the kids and cancel Christmas, pick your jaw up off the floor progressive music at it's finest. Some people fail to realize how rare a live performance of this caliber is these days, but there it is, sitting in your DVD player ready to kick your arse and leave you mumbling, "Whadda Phenomenon....Whadda Phenomenon......" GET IT NOW.
Rating: Summary: Too bad there is a 5-star limit Review: This DVD is a bargain at any price. I began my prog rock journey in 1972, at the tender age of nine, with Yes. The journey has been long and fulfilling. Dream Theater recently took the torch. Their work in the studio is astonishing, but to see them pull this stuff off live is simply incredible. I am a musician, and know that it is extremely hard to coordinate even moderately difficult tunes on stage. But these guys, with time signature changes, keyboard/guitar duets, guitar/bass duets, and awesome drumming, boggle the mind. It is impossible to conceive the amount of hard work that is put into their performances. All with a level of professionalism that is unheard of in all but the most elite of levels. After drooling over Yes, Rush, and all of the other prog rock monsters, I am in awe. Drop what you are doing, and order this !!!!!! NOW !!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Addition to my last entry Review: Come to think of it, why was the sound so low? 2.1 instead of 5.1 I guess, also, Metropolis Pt. 1 is missing, don't you think they would have put that on the DVD. Oh well, still good. To all those people who complain about widescreen, Some cameras, including the ones used to film this DVD are not the Panavision type like the ones used in movies. You can't just make something widescreen if it wasn't filmed in widescreen.
Rating: Summary: Along the lines of Led Zep's The Song Remains The Same Review: This has got to be the best music DVD or video ever! Dream Theater is the best. I still can not believe the radio or MTV overlooks them. Instead we get boy bands and cRap, I mean Rap. You will not be disappointed. It covers the entire Metropolis Pt. 2 CD and has some extras from prior albums, including a 23 minute song, A Change Of Seasons. They play their long songs without mistakes and everyone stays in sync,(No Boy Band pun intended!) what power houses! The only bad thing is the hypnotist at the beginning seems to shout to compensate for the audience, kinda unrelaxing.(His very words are "Close your eyes and begin to relax.") Also the actors playing in the story line are kinda lame, it's trying too hard to parllel the dialog and ends up really silly. Plus they don't look too 1920's as the album depicts them. Once you get past the first few minuts of double, mirror images and METROPOLIS/ tie dye screens superimpossed over the footage it gets really good. I'm glad I bought this.
Rating: Summary: Why do you think it is a bestseller? Review: Great sound and picture quality. I dont want to refer to Band's awesome live performance <God i just did :)> Approximatly three hours of live performance including Metropolis(part 1), Mirror, Lie <You can find those in the behind the scenes documentery> A mind beside itself, Learning to live. But for me the most exciting thing to see was A Change Season performed in its entirity with Rudess' contribution. For the ones who could caught up with DT's world tour you can see yourselves in the World Tour photo album. And if you tought that LTE performence is missing from the DVD you'll find in this section a very good performed Acid Rain at the background. I only got one critic to make and it is : there is no intra band footage. I mean you never can hear your favorite band members talking to eachother. There arent any scenes like the ones in 5 years in a live time video. If you have a DVD player dont miss the chance to get this DVD it will SHOW YOU KINDNESS, BEAUTY AND TRUTH...
Rating: Summary: A must for any DT fan Review: If you own every DT album, this is must have. You get the band's commentary in additon to the big show. Even if you like thier style of music, you will not be disappointed with this epic!I hate reading reviews that aren't specific, but this Video is just synergenic. Everything combines to make the finished product greater than the sum of its parts. I don't think there is a better way to describe it.
Rating: Summary: No DT fan should be without it Review: This is an excellent DVD. The music and the production values are topnotch, and I finally understand the story in its entirety (couldn't quite figure it out from the CD and lyrics). I don't know if I'll ever get to see these guys live, but now I feel that I almost have. I've read some of the criticisms, and they mostly strike me as Monday-morning quarterbacking. Since most people are going to be viewing this on a TV or computer monitor, a 4:3 aspect ratio was the only reasonable way to go - good call, Mike Portnoy. Yes, I suppose they could have eliminated the cut-scenes and artwork, but that would have taken away one part of the concert experience that I, for one, value. Maybe Dolby 5.1 would have helped some people, but again, most are going to be listening to it on a basic 2.1 system, and it sounds great that way. If you are a DT fan, or simply like great concert video, get it and enjoy it!
Rating: Summary: The bonus material alone is worth the price.... Review: Yes, they pulled out all the stops on this one. Aside from the artsy addins (you can't avoid it in a music dvd) the performance is tops! It just so happens that all my favorites are on this one! I personally would have preferred no video art and just straight performance video but it is minimal and is not a reason to down grade a 5 star rating. Buy this!
