Summary: Great sounding DVD captures true Dream Theater
Review: For fans who've followed Dream Theater for the past decade, this DVD is their greatest release, yet. For those new to the group, this DVD represents the best possible introduction.

There isn't much to complain about. The sound is excellent, with nothing missing or overdone. The performance is typical Dream Theater, flawless. An absolutely accurate performance of the CD, with just enough elaboration to make it fresh.

My only regrets were that James' voice wasn't more up to par, with him having to drop down an octave on many occasions. The DVD was produced by Mike Portnoy, and I assume that that accounts for the relatively small amount of time showing his drums. Many times, you hear Portnoy do things and can't imagine how it's possible. I would have liked to have seen him more.

Dream Theater has also done a great job of making use of the features availabe to DVD. Don't get the VHS! Even if you have to go buy or borrow a DVD-player, you'll miss WAY too much otherwise.

The 'commentary' feature of the DVD is phenomenal. The group provides 2 hours + worth of insights into the music, what they're playing and why, how the story-line came about, and what they're thinking as they're playing certain sections. In several places, you hear them react in surprise to what one of the band members does improvisationally. Sometimes the feedback is positive, and sometimes it's negative! Portnoy, at one point, starts getting on Derrick for messing up his rythm during a particularly difficult stretch. Incredibly candid!

The bonus material might be the highlight of the DVD, with a 20 minute version of Change of Seasons!

I waited for months for this DVD to come out, and it far exceeded my expectations. I've seen it several times, and will keep going back. Metropolis 2000 is an incredible illustration of one of the most technically dynamic groups of this generation, playing live what would seem impossible in a studio!

Summary: Simplemente "Amazing"
Review: I never see one concert like this, Dream Theater is a very best band of progresive rock in the world. Labrie,Petrucci,Portnoy,Myung and Rudness plays a epic and unbeliable concert., buy this dvd now!!

Summary: Great DVD But Where's Petrucci?
Review: This is a great DVD and I would definately recommend it to any DT fan. MY only complaint is that the camera never stays on John Petrucci for more than a few seconds. For those of you who dont know, John Petrucci is one of the best guitarist to ever grace this earth. If you are buying this video to watch Petrucci go off you may be disappointed, otherwise this is a great purchase.

Summary: Great introduction to Dream Theater
Review: I'd never heard DT before.Based on some reviews I'd read here at Amazon I thought I'd give them a try. This is a great band. Each musician is technically expert at their instrument. But it doesn't stop there. They play with intensity and emotion.I've seen lots of good musicians,Yes,Gentle Giant,Dixie Dregs,Return To Forever,Pat Metheny Group.DT compares very well to these groups.Thanks,Mr. Video Man, for focusing on individuals as they soloed. The video never got in the way of the sound and the sound is excellent. It saddens me a bit to think that most people will never hear this group of musicians because most radio stations are content with playing 3 chord- 4/4 time rock background music. If you like your music with some depth and variety it would be in your best interest to purchase this DVD.Listen to it with someone who also appreciates good music.Enjoy.

Summary: A ton of fun
Review: The main feature on this DVD - the full-length performance of "Metropolis Pt. 2" - isn't flawless. The performances of the extra actors border on the laughable, and Mike Portnoy overdirected a bit. He heaped on digital video effect after digital video effect to the point where it interfered with my enjoyment of the performance, and also exhibits an odd late-1960's aesthetic sense that manifests itself in weird effects like superimposing the band's name over a shot. Overall, though, those amount to minor flaws. Musically, the performance itself is simply fantastic, the energy level high and James LaBrie (whose reputation as a live performer is justifiably dodgy) in absolutely top form. As much as the studio version moved me nearly to tears, this live verson sent palpable shivers down my spine. The additional materials are likewise excellent. The band's audio commentary is worth the price of the DVD all by itself, and the full hour of bonus live tracks (refreshingly free of strobing, splits, superimposition and other "Videodelic" effects) were utterly prime Dream Theater. Having never had the chance to see this band, one of my favorites, live, this DVD made me a very happy fan.

Summary: What a great way to showcase this fantastic album
Review: This is a must-get for any DT or prgressive rock fan. I have been a RUSH fan since about 1979, but Dream Theater has taken over. They are the most talented band there is right now, and Mike Portnoy has brilliantly produced this masterpiece to put the finishing touch on their mind-blowing concept album from last year.

Summary: Unparalleled Live Performance
Review: The die-hard Dream Theater fan knows that the ultimate would have been to attend the famous Roseland show. After reading the reviews and seeing the set list we could only imagine what it must have been like to have been there. Well, imagine no longer. This release puts you there, in the Roseland Ballroom on August 30, 2000. Often a live performance cannot capture the vital force of a show and translate it to the screen. What we've here is a magical conveyance of what really went down that evening. (Proof positive: Transition from Regression to the 1928 Overture. The place absolutely detonates). The band is extremely unyielding in their deliverance of the Metropolis Part 2 set. It is incredible to watch (and hear) the story from beginning to end.

The extras that are found on the DVD prove that the band left nothing in the tank that night. (After 3+ hours, A Change of Seasons!) Further, being afforded the opportunity to mingle outside the venue before the show with the fans, getting to witness the set up for this phenomenal presentation and getting off-stage during the show is pure luxury.

For the music purist, this reveals just what Dream Theater is all about. Whatever your preference, keyboards/guitar/bass/percussion, this is an extraordinary assemblage of great musicians. If you are a Dream Theater fan, you cannot be without this enchanted evening of music and power. If you are a music traditionalist, indulge yourself with this astonishing performance. Having been nurtured by the likes of (Tales) Yes, (The Lamb) Genesis, (2112/Hemispheres) Rush, UK, ELP, Kansas, Marillion, The Dregs and Pink Floyd, I will tell you this band is full on. The disintegrating force, the majestic ascensions and the complex changes are absolutely inspiring.

Cost of a DVD player - $200.00. Cost of the Metropolis 2000: Scenes from New York - $20.00. Attending the Roseland show over and over, priceless.

Summary: A very master piece

If you don't read spanish, I tell you this DVD is the biggest DVD on the earth, very good you'll see

Summary: Treasure This!!
Review: It has taken awhile to write this review but it wouldn't have mattered when I wrote it. I love it! If you're the type to get obsessed by things you enjoy then by all means purchase this DVD ... and everything else this band has done!! Incredibly satisfying. Band like this have to exist so that younger musicians have something engaging to listen to and to be inspired by. The negative things written about this DVD are unfortunate. Dream Theater probably does more for their fans than any other band out there. A simple fix for all the whiners out there is to turn it up loud, extremely loud and enjoy. If you have all the latest audio equipment be thankful. Most of us don't so it should sound alot better for you.

Congratulations John, John, James, Mike, and Jordan on a job well done!
