Summary: An Awesome Experience, U2 Fan or Not
Review: From what I've read, this movie was not as well recieved as it should have been, and I can't, for the life of me, figure out why. It is not lacking anything. In fact, I'd say this is one of the two best concert films of all time,( next to the Talking Heads' "Stop Making Sense"). The directing is top-notch, with cameras absolutely everywhere, making it feel as if you're really on stage. Some of U2's best early songs are on here, and they are all performed admirably. In fact, I was a bit disappointed that the soundtrack album didn't feature most of my favorite songs form the film, notably the amazing versions of 'With or Without You' and 'Exit,' two songs that are worth purchasing this DVD for alone. 'Where the Streets Have No Name' is wonderful as usuall as well.
Definitely reccomended viewing, especially for U2 fans.

Summary: SECRETS REVEALED?
Review: This is not so much a review as it is a list of what I uncovered with my new 5.1 Surround sound system.

By isolating the center channel:
1)It appears to me that BONO IS NOT PLAYING THE GUITAR ON SEVERAL SONGS!! On Silver and GOLD he is strumming a bit, but the guitar is turned down SOOOO low it can barely be heard
2) Right after Bono's famous "Am I buggin You" speech he can be heard off mike saying "not another rock and roll star taking himself too seriously"

Just some fun stuff I found. If you have DTS 5.1 surround pop in the DVD and check it out.

Summary: Pure Magic
Review: This is how U2 REALLY were, when they didn't bother with all the modern trappings and pyrotechnics of the current stage shows.
No, the DVD's not perfect but how many are? However, being a diehard U2 fan and growing up with them as my staple rock music diet- I've nearly worn out my disc. If it were possible, I'd rate this 10 out of 5 stars.

The intro to "Sreets have no name", halfway through the disc, is exactly why Edge is one of the most unique guitarists ever. And, with the film being black and white up till this point, the cut to colour adds a surprisingly big visual impact. Especially on a big screen.

"Bad", "Exit", "MLK", "Running to stand still" and "With or without you" are light years better than any studio version you could ever find. There's an emotion and intensity that only U2 live can deliver.

Keep an eye out for Larry Mullens Jr's itchy foot and his suggestion for Edge's head...

Summary: good for u2 fans, but sound is poor
Review: This is an OK film. The music selection is fine, but on some of my favorite tracks the sound quality is just no good. I enjoy it nevertheless for the multimedia experience, but they could have done some better editing/remastering.

Summary: A Biased fan's review
Review: Let me start this by saying that U2 is my favorite band and that I would buy any album that they put out, even if it was absolutely terrible (although I can't see that happening!). And, not surprisingly, I loved Rattle and Hum. If you have any interest in U2, I'm guessing you will too. Highlights of the film are the spectacular live versions of "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "With or Without You", "Bullet the Blue Sky", and "Where the Streets Have No Name". It's hard not to get caught up in U2's trip across America. The film is mostly concert footage, there's not a whole lot of interviews with the band or anything, but the concert footage alone makes this DVD well worth the money. A masterpiece.

Summary: Great moments, but overall a disappointment
Review: I'm a relatively new U2 fan who only became an obsessive after All That You Can't Leave Behind, so I wasn't really around when this movie was released. But watching it now I can sort of understand why the critics ripped into it so badly at the time. Make no mistakes, there are still some incredibly powerful moments and performances to be found, such as the blistering performance of Sunday Bloody Sunday, swaggering Helter Skelter and ever-transcendent Bad. Unfortunately, one could almost get a feeling that the band went into this project with an aim to make themselves look as dour and humourless as humanly possible. They come off as overly serious and distant, and if I saw the film without any knowledge of U2 I'd probably be left with a feeling that I was watching the world's dullest band. For a U2 experience, I'd recommend about any other concert video they've done, with ZooTV and Elevation being the top picks.

Summary: Bad sound quality
Review: I'll recommend everyone to buy the VHS version, as the dvd sound lacks sound quality.
Even the CD version can't match the sound quality on the VHS
Just my .02$
By the way, the contents are excellent - great video.

Summary: A MUST for any U2 fan!
Review: I was recommended this DVD by a fellow U2 fan, and I have to say... he was SOOO right about this being an awesome movie! In the 1980's, U2 was on top of their game. The bigscreen gave audiences all over a chance to marvel in their greatness. However, not everybody got what the band was trying to do at the time. The album RATTLE AND HUM was a record "made by fans," as Bono puts it. The movie showed how great the band truly was, but rubbed people the wrong way as they played with top musicians B.B. King and covered Beatles and Dylan songs. U2 was not trying to show they were rock legends like Elvis or Bob Dylan... yet, through the years and through watching them in the movie, you can see how they will emerge as legends. Now presently, U2 have proven themselves as one of the very topmost bands in the rock pantheon whether everyone wants to admit it or not. This movie is truly a window into THE HYPE of when U2 was first making it HUGE. The best I think, was even yet to come. (See: Elevation Live from Boston!)

Summary: misleading cover1
Review: purchased this one in Australia... The only thing wrong with this dvd is that the cover selection list shows more songs on this dvd than there really is...thats a shame....but overall the quality is good.... and a must for u2 fans

Summary: Must own for U2 fans - even better than Elevation Tour DVD
Review: This is an excellent collection of performances from U2's pre-Achtung Baby days. Most of the good songs from that time frame are on here (still missing New Year's Day, which also is not on Elevation Tour dvd - what's up with that?!). The Edge's 'opening song' of Van Demien's Land is a nice, slow, mellow piece, which picks up with Desire on Track3. This song never sounded better now that we can hear it in DD 5.1. Track4 - Exit/Gloria has to be one of my all-time favorites at the moment. This rendition of Exit puts their previous album version of it to shame. They way they worked in Gloria with the song sounds really nice.

Bono's emotions really come through in Sunday Bloody Sunday. Where the Streets Have No Name has an amazing buildup, and With or Without You is touching as always.

Basically this 'movie' is a collection of some really, really good performances. It truly is first-rate.
