Summary: Amazing Performance from Kings of American Prog Rock
Review: This video captures the magic that is a live performance from this great band. Kansas always performs with tons of energy and passion. The concert spans the entire recorded history of the band - from the first self-titled album through the latest effort, Somewhere to Elsewhere. Of course the hits are there (Dust in the Wind with an added string section and the finale of Carry on Wayward Son), but this band delivers so much more. One of the surprise highlights is a rendition of The Preacher with an added gospel choir. The choir really adds to the vocal punch on this song. The playing is fantastic all around, Steve Walsh offers incredible vocals, and the crowd is full of devoted fans. Other highlights include performances of Belexes (mixed in with instrumentals from The Lightning's Hand), Song for America, Icarus and Icarus II, and perhaps the greatest performance of the Wall recorded yet. I would highly recommend this video and also recommend rushing out and seeing this band when they are performing in your neighborhood.

Summary: The wait is over
Review: For many years, I have been frustrated by the lack of inclusion of my favorite band of all time, Kansas, into the DVD market. That frustration is no more....Device, Voice, Drum captures the essence of a Kansas show and is a fitting present back to the fans from the Band. I will not spoil a couple of the surprises on the DVD, but if you are a Kansas fan, what are you waiting for? Get on down to your local Sam Goody or other music store and grab this DVD up. My only complaint is that the extras were not long enough. Approximately 20mins worth of interviews are spread out over 5 different sections. We hear from all of the band as well as long time producer Jeff Glixman. Would have been nice to see some archive performances and pictures, as well as a commentary from the band. But alas, I have waited a long time for this DVD and these are but small things. Definitely, if you have a home theater system, listen to the DVD on the Dolby 5.1 Surround setting instead of the Dolby Stereo selection. The stereo setting is still powerful, but the 5.1 surround puts you right there in the room with them. I am on my 3rd viewing of the DVD already and don't see the end of viewings any time soon.

Summary: A dream come true for Kansas fans
Review: This isnt a cheap sounding and fuzzy looking concert. This is a big budget DVD with great production. Steve Walsh (unlike many other classic rock singers), still sounds awesome. Phil Ehart is possibly the most underrated rock drummer ever. There are no weak songs here. From great first album tunes like JOURNEY FROM MARIABRONN & BELEXES through the 80's hits PLAY THE GAME TONIGHT & FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE to the recent ICARUS II, Kansas plays with great passion throughout.THE PREACHER (including a choir), CHILD OF INNOCENCE, THE WALL & CHEYENNE ANTHEM are all highlights. The stage looks great with laser lights included. Kansas fans shouldn't think twice about getting this great DVD.

Review: Look what the mailman brought today, Device Voice and Drum. Its quite funny its an european (a Dane in fact) who write this first review of the new Kansas DVD. Only being able to see the guys three times I must say that this DVD represent their concerts very well. I am very pleased with both the overall song selection (see tracklisting elsewhere) and the production, although there are a couple of things things that in my humble opinion could have been better. In the song selection I miss a little more of the new material like Myriad or Distant Visions from Somewhere to Elsewhere, or tracks from Freaks of Nature, for instance Hope Once again. One can never get enough ;-) The sound of the production is very "concert like", especially the 6 channel Dolby Digital. In normal stereo I consider the bass to be to dominant. Although sound is not as crisp as my personal reference Eagles: When hell Freezes over (DTS), the mixing is good and very listenable. My biggest disappointment is the quality of the photography. Picture is somewhat blurred compared to most of my other concert DVDs, again taking Eagles as an example, like a little grease on the lenses. I suspect some of it is due to the rather low lightning there were during the concert judging from the DVD. The focus shifts on all the guys giving each of them room on the DVD, which I consider rather nice, instead of focusing only on the vocalist. Clips are not short compared to normal MTV videos these days which gives the DVD a nice feeling. In contrast to this more slow approach is the fancy intro. I am not sure whether I like it or not, I think I have to look at it more times ;-) The extra material contains interviews, a short docu on how the DVD was made, and a discography. The interviews are of a much better visual quality than the concert itselv, which I find funny. All in all, I recommend this DVD to anyone interested in Kansas or progressive rock in general, especially when you not are able to go to their shows. It really depict where they are right now in their career, and showing what an awesome bunch of musicians and songwriters they are. Buy it !

Summary: Great visual and audio documentation of a great band
Review: The current members of Kansas got together on June 15, 2002, in Atlanta for a little jam session with a number of their most fervent fans on hand. Oh, yeah, they happened to be recording for a live audio CD and filming for a DVD as well. The end result: A must-have purchase for any fan of Kansas, priceless live documentation of a band still kicking serious progressive music tail nearly 30 years after they started climbing their way to major popularity. That kicking starts at the very beginning with "Intro" which slides right into "Belexes" from their first self-titled album, and when's the last time "Belexes" was heard live? Not nearly often enough. Songs from just about every era of Kansas are included here. There's "Belexes" and a kickin' take on "Journey From Mariabronn" (another Kansas classic not heard nearly enough in a live setting) from the debut album, an extra-spirited performance of "Song For America" from the second album of the same name, the latest live version literally giving me goosebumps upon my first listen to the audio CD. From the last studio album, "Somewhere To Elsewhere," there's "Icarus II," blending into the original "Icarus" from "Masque." From the John Elefante era, there's "Fight Fire With Fire" and "Play The Game Tonight." From the Steve Morse era, there's "The Preacher" with The New Advent Choir blending in perfectly and giving the tune the full gospel touch it was designed to have. The only era missing here is the one that boasted David Ragsdale on violin and guitar, and Greg Robert on keys, but it's hard to cram so much great music onto a small disc, isn't it? Every member of the band was on top of their game for this recording. Steve Walsh is in great voice, no signs of the raspiness that's plagued him in the past. This was like the Walsh of old, when he staked his claim as one of the top singers in all of rock. His keys playing here is fantastic as well. Robby Steinhardt's violin is pure all the way through, and he's in great shape vocally as well, he just nails his vocal parts. Richard Williams fills it up with his lead guitar playing, Billy Greer is absolutely precise on bass and backing vocals, and Phil Ehart (the quiet leader of the bunch) is like a finely tuned piston engine on drums. It's been said by those who were there for the recording that the place was full of unique energy for this event, and it comes through in the recording. Kansas fans from all around the country converged on Atlanta for the filming, and the fans themselves helped pump the energy up to a wonderful level, yet they were perfectly subdued when they needed to be, as in the entrance to "The Wall." The DVD features behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the band, along with some amazing animation from Animusic. For a visual and audio glimpse of the band Kansas at its finest, the DVD and/or the CD are necessary ingredients for any progressive music collection.

Review: I was their for the filming of the DVD. This is so much more than your typical DVD of a concert, it is a film, a movie of Kansas. The best American Progressive rock group ever. The Music and the animation makes this the Best music DVD avialable. Buy this and you won't be sorry.

Review: This is a must have DVD for fans of progressive music. Kansas' performance on this night was superb and the energy in each of the songs is thrilling. The band is showing that after 30 years in the business they still have what it takes to deliver a standout show for their fans. If you like good music and a great concert, this is for you!

Review: Although the early days of Kansas are saddly no more, it was nice to see the destroyer of bands, steve moreses gutiar get cut off short at times. sorry, but he isnt Kansas, he isnt Deep Purple, he just seems to try his best to pull himself out of the old dixie dreggs theme by riding the coat tail of already well established bands and make them sound... [...]
As for Kansas themselves, They were the hottest band with the warmest progressions ever to hit the face of this earth, no one can deny this. I just wish there was old concert footage to see and enjoy, maybe steve moris can curl up in his footie pj's and teddy bear and watch it to learn how REAL musicians played and earned their keep =)

Summary: What I've been missing
Review: I was always a casual fan of Kansas, but never thought of them as the fathers of American progressive rock. That is until I picked up their two disc 'boxed set". After that, I got the two disc "Devise, Voice, Drums" set and finally this DVD. The playing is breathtaking. Those who know only the hits will be surprised. The DVD is expertly filmed and recorded and the extras are very welcome. I now will work my way backwards through the Kansas catalog!
