Summary: Tempts or not
Review: I haven't seen the video but I know it was made in 1983. The original hitmaking lineup was Kendricks, Ruffin, O.Williams, P. Williams, and Franklin. In 83, O. Williams and Franklin were still in the group. One of Kendricks' succesors, Ron Tyson was a member(still is and a great singer), is in the group. Richard Street(replaced Paul in 71) is in the group. Dennis Edwards replaced Ruffin in 67 and should still be in the group till 84. So this video should feature Otis Williams, Ron Tyson, Richard Street, Dennis Edwards, and the ever great bassman Melvin Franklin. Trust me people I know this stuff. However, there have been groups touring as the Tempts at the time this video was made. But the truth is only two originals were in the group in 83. Richard Street though, was a member of Otis Williams and the Distants, the Temptations predecessor group. Though this video shouldn't include Ruffin, Kendricks or Paul Williams. Dennis Edwards, however, was with them in 68-77, 79-84 and 86-87. He is responsible for several grammy winning performances.

Summary: Please people, it's starting to get old.
Review: I haven't seen this video, so I wasn't going to comment..

But I just have gotten tired of all of you saying how "terrible it was because it wasn't the original tempts."

First off, if you wanted to see the original tempts, look at the year: 1983. If you can read, then you'll know that the original 5 weren't around that late; we don't need to be constantly reminded of the fact that it wasn't the original tempts.

As said earlier, I haven't watched the video, but I have listened to songs such as "heavenly" or "isn't the night fantastic"(both available on the Emperors of Soul box set via amazon.com ;), and frankly, they are absolutely WONDERFUL. I haven't heard a single song Richard Street sang lead in that is less than superb(it's a shame he left the tempts). So I disagree on the opinion of "they have lost their spark."

Summary: The Tempts are still Temptin'
Review: I just got this DVD and I loved it. I know the performance is dated and its not the C-5 lineup but the guys were in great form. Melvin Franklin's 'Ol Man River is superb. If you are a Tempt fan this is a must for your collection.

Summary: Loved The Video
Review: I just watch The Temptations video and I loved it. The dance moves were super. I don't what people are complaining about. I've had it a week and watched it at least once a day. I like to look at Richard Street. I wish he was still with The Temptations.

Summary: My first Impression was - OH NO!
Review: I knew from the beginning that this would not be the original Tempts because of the date (1983). Paul was dead and David and Eddie were no longer with the group, however with Melvin, Otis and Dennis still there, I expected it to sound more like the motown version. The new group is fine, but they should stick to singing songs that they sang together initially. Dennis tried to sing lead on songs that were done by David and fell way short. Those songs were not written with his type of voice in mind. Richard has a great voice, but it does not fit the lead in any of the original songs. Ron's voice is also nice, but not quite the tempo to sing lead on some of the songs that Eddie sang.I felt no nostalgia when I heard most of the songs because the sound was so different and the Motown sound of the Funk Brothers was missing. I had the pleasure of watching the Standing in the shadow of Motown tape, featuring the Funk Brothers Band and the right music most definitely makes the difference in the songs. Melvin's Old Man River is still GREAT . Richard's version of My Girl really left alot to be desired. Some songs should never be sung by anyone other than the original artist. If you just want to see the Tempts, remember this is 1983,not the 1960's. I had to watch this a couple of times to realize that it's not really bad, just different from what I expected. You get Older Tempts with a different sound and Slower Tempos. They still gave their all. It's up to you to decide if it's enough. If you've seen the show, you'll notice the audience back then seemed to really enjoy it.Well, That was over twenty years ago, so maybe it's my perspective that's off. I am not totally diappointed, but if I did'nt already own it, I wouldn't purchase it. By the way, this is my second review and my opinion did change slightly.

Summary: One Star Is Too Many!!!!!!
Review: I saw the video up until Dennis Edwards attempted to sing Ain't Too Proud To Beg. I had to turn it off. I just could not see anymore. These were not the Temptations. These were wannabes. I was very disappointed. Where is my Paul Williams, David Ruffin, and Eddie Kendricks?

Summary: I am a true fan.
Review: I was disappointed in this video, but I would like to know who are those guys, there is one group that can do the things that the Temptations did and that is the Temptations themself's you can't fool real fans, and believe in me I am a real fan. What happen to the real Temptations that were suppose to be in this video.

Summary: Real Temptations
Review: I was not at all disappointed in this video. As a fan for years now I can tell that these performers are the real Temps; with Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin and Richard Street(who started the Temptations in 1959 as Otis and the Distants),Dennis Edwards -since 1968 the voice of the group and Ron Tyson. Sure, some members of the original Temptations are dead and gone now, but the songs still sound OK to me.

Summary: There must be better footage available somewhere!
Review: I wish I had not seen what can only be described as a ghost of the Temptations. It is obvious the spark had been extinguished by this time. The guys in the group are acting too vegasy and not concentrating on the music and the moves.

It was sad to see Melvin Franklin and Otis Williams trying their best to keep it together like it used to be. Bottom line: don't buy this video if you want to remember the Temps for the supergroup they once were.
