Summary: DvD Disfunctiality
Review: Although this DvD is great for hardcore fans, I bought it and it was defective as the DvD had popped out of it's place and scratched against the plasitic backing...and this was when I opened it BRAND NEW. I re-ordered it and guess what happened: THE SAME THING! This DvD was twice defective and the production company needs to resolve this conflict before you should buy it. I contacted YAHOO Help, and they e-mailed me back saying the problem was more "widespread than we expected." Beware, at least until the problem is resolved.

Summary: Great DVD. Should've cut out the sci-fi though.
Review: Here's the deal:

Arena: The Movie is a 1984 concert/sci-fi movie capturing Duran Duran at their peak. The concert was once aired on MTV, but in edited form and was titled "As The Lights Go Down." This version combines that same concert with a hair-brained sci-fi plot, featuring Milo O'Shea as "the real" Duran Duran (the character from the film "Barbarella."). He and his 3 midget friends have landed from outer space and set up camp below the stage to cause havoc for the band and its fans during the concert, to somehow prove who the real Duran Duran is. Not much of a plot. The sci-fi silliness is no more than a distraction from the concert, as nearly every song is interrupted numerous times with scenes of these ridiculous characters. I would much rather have the edited-for-MTV version of the concert, which cut out the sci-fi and featured the concert only.

On the plus side, the picture and sound quality is excellent. The "making of" documentary has interviews with all 5 band members. The packaging is brilliant. There is a clear slip-case that holds the black dvd box (w/ band photos on the back). When opening the box, you will discover a sheet of Duran Duran stickers! YES!!- stickers! Not to mention a fold-out movie poster w/ photos & credits. This helps make up for the lame packaging of DD's "Greatest" DVD which was not so great.

The bonus features, which are easily found on the main menu (no Easter Egg hunt on this one!!) are as follows:

Arena TV Ad
Arena Trailer
Arena Video Mix
Save A Prayer (live)- with no interruptions from the sci-fi plot
Simon Le Bon Interview (from 1984, discussing the concept of Arena.)

So if you're a Duran Duran fan like me & have been waiting for 2 decades to see this again, here's your chance! The sci-fi plot is irritating, but if you can overlook that, this is a great way to relive the excitement of Duran Duran, circa 1984. Meanwhile I'm STILL waiting for that reunion album. Ugh!!!!

Summary: I've waited my whole life for this DVD
Review: I almost fainted when I saw this DVD at my record shop. It's a concert film of the band's 1984 world tour where they performed in HUGE stadiums in front of millions of people. This tour is the highest grossing event of all time, and who would be surprised? I mean, if Pink Floyd ever went on tour, they'd be lucky to sell even a third of Wembley! I love DuranDuran more than you will ever know. To insult them is to insult family. You must get it. I give it the highest possible recommendation.

Summary: Avoid these Roxy Music poseurs
Review: I almost vomited when I saw this disgraceful Duran Duran DVD at my record store. It's a concert film of the band's 1984 world tour where they performed in HUGE stadiums in front of millions of people(which they can't do anymore because their music is like their clothes and looks, out of f****** style). This tour was the highest grossing event at the time but Queen broke the record in 1986. Pink Floyd even sold out two nights at Wembley Stadium in 1988 on their Momentary Lapse tour! I despise Duran Duran more than you will ever know. To The Infidel a/k/a Cranky Reviewer, insulting Pink Floyd is like insulting family and wishing death on a loved one of mine. You must get it. I give it the highest possible recommendation.

Summary: You've got to be kidding me!
Review: I can't believe one of the greatest groups of the 1980's, has made such a bad choice of releasing a wannabe science fiction music video. BTW, don't EVER buy from musicisus.com... absolutely no customer service.
I'm still a huge DD fan, but this brings them down a couple of notches.

Review: I don't have the dvd so i can't review the extras and the making of.. yet ;)

However I have the video copy of this from 1985.

I will warn viewers if you are expecting and want a straight forward concert video this ain't it.

The charm of the movie is combining the plot with the footage.. Making Duran Duran out to be some kind of weird protagonist unbeknowist of them.

Further, those who are really paying attention notice most of the clips are from barberella where hence duran duran swiped their name. in fact if i remember the guy who played Dr duran duran in barberella reprises it here :)

it is duran duran and their quirkiness at its best

Summary: Very Disappointing
Review: I have not seen a Duran Duran concert ever! Though I grew up a "Duranie" in the 80's, I have yet to see them perform their hits live in concert. This DVD (I thought) will finally provide me w/ a sense of satisfaction watching every Duran Duran member live playing their hit songs. I would like to watch Nick "one finger" Rhodes play the synth one more time and prove once and for all that this band is not just a glam band but actual artists.
This DVD failed me. Every live song was interrupted by snippets of aliens and what have you - and totally ruined the live concert experience.
What a joke!
