Rating: Summary: Bad decision.... Review: It would have been better to have the Live In Memphis video inserted here, instead of the atrocious Priest...Live, that was recorded during their "hair-metal" phase, and it's a disgrace, with the guys dressed like Poison or Ratt or Motley Crue, Halford staring at the cameras all the time, the camera going to film chicks at the audience (some of them clearly not at the concert) all the time... Live in Memphis, recorded during the Scremaing For vengeance Tour, is the opposite: it has the band at their most hard sound ever, delivering classic after classic with energy and vibration. The rarities are fine. All in all, for such a low price, it's a good thing to buy.
Rating: Summary: An Obvious "Teaser" for the reunion. Review: Judas Priest have finally come full circle. Getting rid of Rob Halford was their darkest hour, and they struggled to follow up Painkiller with any standout material. After a few missteps, Halford himself came back with a venegence, putting out two classic solo albums in the process. Now on to the Dvd: its a very reasonably priced dvd full of treats. Its not complete but for a 2 hour 40 minute dvd it is definitely more than enough. It features the entire Priest Live video as well as most of the Halford era promo videos (some really funny stuff here, how could anyone not known he was gay!) and two live songs for bbc along with three mimed ones. Not the best thing since sliced bread, but its pretty awesome. Obviously it is timed to promote the reunion with Rob Halford, as there is no Ripper era material to be found on this release. Priest Live: A highly entertaining if a little dated (smirk) concert video of Priest at their best, live. Versions of Hell Bent For Leather, Breaking the Law, and The Sentinel actually surpass their studio counterparts. It has a lot of material from the widely controversial (at least at the time) album Turbo, and this may be a turn off to some potential buyers of the dvd (not me because I happen to like the album). The Videos: Most of the Halford era videos in all their full glory, including one I've waited to see for a long time, Hot Rockin! (hilarious work out scene with obvious innuendos in the video). Touch of Evil is also a big highlight as well as the hilariously over budget Locked In. The Extras: A few lip synced songs for the tele, but the real treat is the "hippie era" Priest rockin out two songs live, Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver and Rocka Rolla! Sound: Thats where one star is taken off. The videos and Priest live sound fine, but there is a decibel drop noticable with the extra tv footage. Part of it may be me using the (not so good) Ps2 dvd player (too cheap to buy a real one) but it is noticable. Overall: Buy this dvd, you wont be dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: A Bargain Treaure Trove for Fans of '80s Judas Priest Review: Most fans of 1980s Judas Priest probably already have the Fuel For Life video collection and Priest...Live! show performed in Dallas in 1986 which are featured on this DVD. There are still many reasons to purchase Electric Eye besides upgrading those worn out videos to DVD. Electric Eye offers three music videos that came out after Fuel For Life was released: "Johnny B. Goode," "Painkiller," and "A Touch of Evil." Electric Eye also has bonus rare BBC TV Performances (some very early 1975 and 1979 performances with drummers Les Binks and John Hinch). Check out the hair on Rob Halford on the "Rocka Rolla" and "Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver" and you'll see why he became one of those few heavy metal legends with short hair. Other TV performances feature "Take on the World," "Evening Star," "Living After Midnight," and "United." Listening to those excellent early songs makes me want to dust off those pre-Stained Class albums.
For those who do not have the above mentioned videos, the promotional videos are what you would expect to come out in the 1980s, but they are at least rather creative and are not simply lip sync stage performances. The band robs a bank (well, they retrieve a gold record for British Steel out of a bank vault) in "Breaking the Law." "Don't Go" is rather creative with KK Downing and Glenn Tipton leaving through a door to encounter different (and bizarre) experiences (Ian Hill faces a long drop from his opened door and decides to stay in while Dave Holland somehow ends up floating around in a space suit). KK and Glenn race (as slowly as OJ's white Bronco) on the highway in "Heading Out..." Rob Halford's face is on a classic arcade game not unlike Pole Position in "Freewheel Burning." The most developed storyline is on "Locked In," where the bands saves Rob from a group of dominatrices.
"Priest...Live!" is not very good. The way in which the live performance is shown is very stale. There are hardly any close-ups and you hardly see Ian Hill and Dave Holland. Plus, since it was the tour promoting Turbo, they play a lot of their lamer songs like "Private Property," "Parental Guidance," and "Rock You All Around the World." The opening number, "Out in the Cold," though, is a highlight.
The final bonus on Electric Eye is a discography (including live albums). One track from each album is played in its entirety which, to me, was a surprise treat. For all you get, the price is excellent. No Judas Priest fan should be without Electric Eye!
Rating: Summary: Halford ear Priest on DVD!!! Review: OK I'll say it right now. I was a little disappointed that this DVD was from the "Turbo" tour. While not as horrible as many people have said, "Turbo" was a substandard JP album. And to make things worse JP decided to glam up their image for this tour. While not on par with the androgynous levels of Poison, Enuff Z Nuff or any of those glam bands, JP still looked pretty ridiculous. (I apologize to any Poison or EZN fans but no one can deny the image excesses of those bands) But at the end of the day this is still PRIEST live so you know you are gonna get a (expletive deleted) amazing, awe inspiring show. Tipton and Downing are one of the best metal guitar teams out there. And what else needs to be said about Halford? The man is what he is called by many....a metal god! The concert is about 90 minutes long and while I could have done with less "turbo" songs and some more of their real classics, the DVD is highly entertaining and proof that all the praises JP gets thrown at them are warranted. *A warning, if your DVD player skips at the halfway point of movies (this happens when the laser inside the DVD player reads the second layer of information on a DVD) then prepare yourself for the skip during the first verse of "Sentinel". This was really frustrating because the skip could have been placed at a more appropriate moment not in the middle of a freakin' song!!! All of JPs music videos (Halford era music videos) are here. JP is a great band and all but these videos were really cheap and cheesy but that is consistent with the era they came from. And let me just add that I'd be lying if I said I didn't get some fun out of them, I am a child of the 80s after all and the nostalgia is definitely there. The best vid on here is the one for "painkiller". It is the least cheesy and the images complement the insanity of the song. There are also some JP television performances on here. It's really cool to see JP from the rocka rolla/sad wings era. Even back then they ruled. There are other performances too but these are just ok because one can tell that JP are just "lip synching" to the songs. So there you go. Anyone who likes JP and old school heavy metal are urged to get this. Make sure you turn this up when playing it for maximum enjoyment!!!
Rating: Summary: THE PRIEST IS BACK!!!!! Review: One of the worlds best (if not the best) Heavy Metal bands around. Finally put out a concert long over due for DVD with the best line up around. Not dissing in any way Ripper Owens he is an excellent voaclist in his own right BUT...any one who has seen Rob Halford solo or with Priest knows exactly where the raw power and stage presence lies...with the metal god himself. Robs vocals are undeniably the best. Period end of story. Although not the best Priest concert ive seen..it does do Rob and the Band justice of how incrdeible they are live.Heres hopeing to a succssful 2004 reuinon album and tour and hpefully they will catch this on DVD. The old videos are a hoot to look at and the tv shots are good also. This is a must have video for any Priest fan. In the mean time sit back and enjoy a look back and one of the most powerful and intence bands around. Enjoy the Raw,Savage power that is Judas Priest.

Rating: Summary: Classic Metal for a bargain! Review: The "Electric Eye" DVD release is a good compilation and designed to be a good bargain. The Collection includes 7 TV preformances which are a snapshot of the late 70's metal scene and its development into the heyday of the 80's. All the videos are here except for "parental guidance" which is fine for me. My personal favorite era of J.P. is "point of entry". The remainder of the dvd is "Judas..Live" from their 86 release. Although I enjoyed this DVD i felt it was a slight letdown compared to the "memphis show" 83 concert which had so much more energy from halford. This concert seemed to "polished" with out the passion that Halford has displayed in other sets. Cant wait for the reunion tour!
Rating: Summary: Good Deal for Long Time Fans Review: The 'Electric Eye' DVD provides a good visual history of Priest. Most of the old promo videos are here. I haven't seen many of these for years and I forgot the wry sense of humor Priest has. I never realized before that the sign at the beginning of the 'Another Thing Coming' video says 'Noise Pollution Test Area.' So that's why the inspector's head blows up! Fantastic. The skeletons with their helmets still on is also pretty funny in the 'Turbo Lover' video given the sign at the beginning. I really respect a band as big as Priest that has the ability to laugh at themselves. But the audio on the promo videos is not very good . I ran it through my digital receiver but they still sound like they are playing through speakers on a 13" TV set (that's why I subtract 1 star). The concert has decent audio but I wish they would have used the Screaming for Vengeance or Painkiller tour instead. The Turbo era doesn't present Priest in their best light either visually or musically. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent concert, but at that time Priest was trying to conform to a fad that was more style-over-substance. For a long-time Priest fan like me the best selling point for this video is the old 70s era TV footage from Great Britain. Check out KK's outfit on 'Rocka Rolla' - priceless! Surprisingly the audio on these clips is fantastic. The price is reasonable. There is no reason not to get this if you have been into Priest for a long time. If you're not so much interesed in the history of Priest and just want a high-quality DVD Priest concert video to rock along with try 'Live in London' instead. It packs a lot of power. Ripper Owens is still the vocalist on that one but I'm sure there will be a new live DVD with Rob within a couple years, too.
Rating: Summary: Rush job Review: The concert was okay, but many of their best songs weren't played: Victim of Changes, Ripper, Tyrant, etc. The Screaming for Vengeance DVD (check Ebay) was WAY better. I personally don't like their radio friendly songs from Turbo or Ram it Down. Judas Priest should never have made videos. For such a great band, the videos (except Painkiller, which was EXCELLENT) came off as silly- SO bad that they weren't even good. Add a flimsy inner jacket and you get a package that seems like a half hazard rush job. Let's hope they put out a DVD of their Ozzfest tour (with Slayer). That would be truly great!
Rating: Summary: Awesome, but poor quality control Review: The Dolby 5.1 mix of the Live show on this DVD is incredible. Unfortunately there seems to be a problem with the audio on tracks 13-19, namely constant audio dropouts. Amazon sent a replacement, but it had the same problem. Seems to be a problem with the whole production batch. Shame on Sony quality control!
