Rating: Summary: no face gives one thumb......down!!!! Review: I bought this DVD on a whim while taking a drive through the city. Being a fan of Iron Maiden since their creation in the mid-fifties, I figured I might as well buy the DVD, right? Well, like many hard working americans, I was born without a face. It's a disease that is brought on in the womb by heavy drug consupmtion by the mother, and leaves the child "faceless", or, without a face. Therefore, I must rely on my sense of hearing while watching movies and such. Based on this, I did not like this DVD at all. While the visual spectacle, odor, and perhaps taste may be groundbreaking and out-of-this-world, what my ears picked up was hardly breathtaking, much less listenable. I sat for two hours, pouring vitamin-enriched goo into the gaping hole where a face usually is (it's the only way I can eat), "watching" this DVD. I found not one minute, second, or even millisecond of enjoyment whatsoever. This DVD is not listeneable, to be blunt. It's a waste of time, when I could be playing sports, driving, or making visits to kindergarten classrooms around my town. I hope this review was helpful, at least to those stricken with facelessness, as I am. Thank You
Rating: Summary: Finally, all the videos on DVD. Goodbye VHS and Quicktime! Review: I bought this DVD set for one simple reason: I wanted all of Iron Maiden's videos together, in good quality, and in a format I could watch in my living room. And this set delivers. In 1992, Iron Maiden released "From There To Eternity" on VHS -- a compilation of all their promotional videos made up to that point. Unfortunately, by this time the radio stations and Mtv (at least here in the US) didn't want to acknowledge any heavy metal band that made music in the 80s. Iron Maiden continued to make more videos over the next decade, and thankfully these were released as QuickTime files on various multi-media CD singles. Similarly, Iron Maiden re-re-released their back catalog as multi-media CDs that each included two music videos. This was all certainly better than nothing, but it still meant being restricted to watching Iron Maiden in a tiny, pixelated box on your computer screen. Now, once and for all, here are all the Iron Maiden videos on DVD. No more dealing with my old VHS tapes, or shuffling through my stack of CD singles. The pictures and the sound are both great. There are also a number of bonus features, including a few video remakes by the animation group Camp Chaos, a song or two from Rock In Rio, interactive menus, and more. The reason I'm only giving this 4 stars is because of to the navigation. The animated menus are very entertaining...the first dozen times you see them! After that, it gets incredibly annoying to peruse the disc. You can't skip any of these long animated menus. Even selecting different elements on the main menu triggers a pause and the background song to start playing again from the top. There was certainly a lot of work put into making this disc very aesthetically appealing, but I think they sacrificed practicality too much. Though all in all, a great collection that's sure to please Maiden fans. Whether you're an old fan or a new fan, you may be seeing some of these videos for the first time. See them here on DVD in all their glory, instead of on a tiny QuickTime window.
Rating: Summary: Nice Anticipation Piece Before The New Album Review: I bought this DVD set right before Iron Maiden was set to destroy Chicago this past summer and having only seen the "From Here To Eternity" video about 1,000 times, I decided it was time to get the whole video collection together. First, I am glad that they decided to include "Women In Uniform" because not only is it a semi-hard to find track but the video was only included on the "12 Wasted Years" video prior to this release. Disc 1 is chock full of classics from their classic set of albums. Everything from "Run To The Hills" to "The Clairvoyant" is stuffed into this set with premium quality. Disc 2, which seems to be the disc that many are disregarding as "the lackluster 90s" contains the last of the early 90s Dickinson stuff and the entire Blayze collection and videos from "Brave New World". Now, many disregard the 90s releases as being sbu-par or worse. While I am in agreement that "Fear Of The Dark" isn't that great of an album, "No Prayer For The Dying" was a strong album with great songs like "Tailgunner" and "The Assassin". As for the Blayze albums, I am a big fan of both. Luckily, there are videos included from some of the standouts from those two underappreciated classics like "Man On The Edge" and "The Angel And The Gambler". Both discs are awash with cool extras like "Futureal Football", Camp Chaos videos and some live material from the Rock In Rio DVD which got me especially pumped to see them live this summer. The menu animations are top notch and even slightly humorous. For the casual fan, there is something to like here but for the rabid fan; such as myself, you are incomplete without this wonderful set of Iron Maiden's videos.
Rating: Summary: The mighty are sometimes greedy... Review: I gave up supporting Iron Maiden (by "supporting" I mean buying their products) around 1990, when Steve Harris replaced the great Adrian Smith wih one of the worst British guitarrists I've ever listened to, Mr. Janick Gers. Maybe he's good, but he was not fit for Iron Maiden, because the guitar solos in Iron Maiden are (were, whatever) a very important part of the songs, and Janick just can't play Adrian Smith solos (or any kind of solo, for that matter - check the good TATTOED MILLIONAIRE, a solid rock album by Bruce Dickinson featuring Janick - there's no solo - just a brief one in the tittle track). So, he destroyed all the former solos dancing, jumping, falling, instead of PLAYING them... Also, Steve Harris became to take complete control, reaching the level of production - sad decision. SO, I prefer not to enrich them by buying a compilation of videos (?). I'll just wait for DANCE OF DEATH (I'll check it before deciding to bbuy it or not).
Rating: Summary: A MUST-HAVE FOR MAIDEN FANS! Review: I have really enjoyed music dvds lately. I bought all the Metallica and Megadeth ones, Cradle of Filth's Heavy Left Handed and Candid, Rammstein's Live Aus Berlin, and Slipknot's Disasterpieces. They are all great. This is another of those that stand out. I mean, who can pass up all of Maiden's videos to date? The packaging is awesome, with the CGI Eddie coming up the manhole (the cd is the manhole cover and when you remove it, you see Eddie climbing a ladder up toward you. It's a pretty neat idea.) This dvd and the Slipknot one is probably the best with the interactive menus. Visions has, perhaps, the longest opening sequence of any dvd I've ever seen. I won't give it away, but it's really awesome. So, anyway, if you're a fan, what are you waiting for? Go get it! If you're not......then what the hell are doing here anyway? Go look up something you DO like!
Rating: Summary: FINALLY! All the video's in one place! Review: I love when groups released DVD's with their music videos, and Iron Maiden did it beautifully! This is purhapse the best collection of video's any group has put out! It has Beautiful menues, plenty of extras and easter egges, this DVD set is simply a must! You get Maiden football as well has the animated Camp Chaos music videos. Super nice. I hope Megadeth gets around to releasing a DVD like this and I am really looking forward to Judas Priest's Electric Eye DVD with their music video's. UP THE IRONS!
Rating: Summary: A Great timeline Review: I must admit that I didn't consider this a must-have purchase, but I bought it anyway (I love Maiden). This package is quite a pleasant surprise. It has the most awesome 2.0 mix I've heard on any dvd & the menu is really cool & well done too. I wish they'd mixed the whole thing in 5.1, but this will do. Kudos to Sanctuary for doing the boys right once again. The packaging is very similar to the Rock In Rio DVD. The animated videos are o.k., but not essential. I had never seen any videos from Maiden since the live one from "A Real Live One" except "The Wicker Man". I never thought Blaze fit in well, but I'd never seen any footage of them with him so it was interesting. "Little Danzig" just doesn't have the voice or the presence of Bruce so the inevitable happened. One surprising inclusion on this set is Blaze doing a Bruce song, a live version of "Afraid To Shoot Strangers". One viewing/listen will tell you what you already know: I REPEAT, HE AIN'T BRUCE! Oh, & the Futureal Football segment was cool (with my limited soccer knowledge, 'Arry looks like he's got some great moves out there!). Up The Irons! Wish I could see them with Dio & Motorhead in Columbia, MD next Tuesday! The Wolf
Rating: Summary: This is the Holy Grail of heavy metal videos Review: I saw this at the store and brought it to the register without even looking at the price. This is one of those video collections that you just 'have to have'. You have every video from every album. We get Paul Di'anno's footage, Bruce's material, and the lesser popular Blaze era of the band. It is the complete history of Maiden in videos. The fan favorites are the classic videos with perfomance footage mixed in with black and white footage from old movies. Who could forget vids like 'The Trooper', 'Number of the Beast' and 'Run to the Hills'? As Maiden matured, developed, and got more money, their videos became more technical and entertaining. The bonus footage is hit and miss. I'm not a soccer fan at all, so that stuff is pretty useless to me even though it's kind of cool to see the band playing the world's favorite sport outside of the US. I need not describe anymore, all I have to say is... Hey Maiden fans, what are you waiting for? It's ALL their videos!!!
Rating: Summary: Insane Yoshi Review: I think it's a great compilation, plus it gives you an idea of what maiden has become over the years, their change in composition and sound, etc. By the way, that idiot who wrote in response to the "faceless" guy, the review that's entitled "faceless...more like brainless", that guy is SUCH AN IDIOT!. I can't believe listening to Maiden fills him with "american" pride, to begin with the US SUCKS! (visit www.insaneyoshi.8m.com for further info). Besides, MAIDEN IS FROM ENGLAND! haven't the many pictures of Eddie with the British flag given you an idea? Don't be proud needlessly, because I thank God Maiden is not from the US.
Rating: Summary: Even for older fans Review: I used to be a huge IM fan un my teens, now I'm in my mid thirties and I still enjoyed IM's incredible music in this nicely packaged DVD. This is what all bands should do, provide a lot of fun content with an excellent production for a reasonable price. It is a no brainer, I bet they're going to sell a ton and I'm sure low budget fans won't feel encouraged to buy a pirate copy, this is extremely reasonable. I loved the intros, the menus, the sound is very acceptable and the extras are fun. Buy it.
