Rating: Summary: Super! Fantastic! Review: I had seen a portion of the documentary on TV and was anxiously awaiting the DVD. As I sat and watched the DVD with my husband, I told him that I would have worked in the kitchen as cook and clean-up crew just to have been there. It was the most amazing thing to have realized that after only 2 weeks, these fantastic musicians could come together when never having played together as a band before and created such an EXCELLENT performance. The sincerity with which "Fragile" was performed was touching and I was VERY glad that Sting decided to do his concert on 9-11 ... it turned out as a tribute to our lost family and friends as well as our heroes.
Rating: Summary: Sting - All This Time Review: I love Sting. He is so very talented. I think this was a great event and the video is great. Although this was a great DVD I only have one complaint. (Maybe it's my system though). The audio sounds as though it is too loud so when I turn it up it starts blaring. I also have the Eagles - Hell Freezes Over Tour on DVD. It sounds awesome. It has to be the recording of Stings DVD that causes the distorted sound. Could I have gotten a bad DVD?
Rating: Summary: September 11th, 2001 A beautiful tribute to the victims Review: I pre-ordered the DVD before it came out because I saw the show on A&E. The most remarkable part of the DVD is the sound. During the concert you feel like you are sitting in Tuscany with a glass of Chianti and listening to Sting perform at his house. I own at least 10 other DVD live concerts and this is by far the best sound quality. The documentary part is fascinating because during the rehearsals Sting could not have anticipated what was going to happen right before the show. The rehearsal sessions are excellent as you watch the musicians work through the songs. Then on September 11th Sting must make an excruciating decision on whether to perform the concert. In the end he changes the song list to reflect the emotional moment and the result is an emotionally charged performance that cannot be duplicated. Fragile is appropriatly the first song. Obviously, I would have liked to see some of the lighter songs, but under the circumstances it was amazing that they were able to perform at all.

Rating: Summary: A Breath-Taking Night At Sting's Villa Review: I wanted to start buying more musical concerts on dvd so I picked Sting: All This Time because I always liked a few of his songs but based on his top songs. Just by watching this spectacular concert has put me in a better mood. There are many reasons why this dvd is so great. Just the idea of holding a concert in his backyard is so original & great. Sting has a beautiful house in Tuscany and the scenery is breath-taking. Reason for this dvd being a little expensive is theres an hour long documentry section that shows him and his multi-cultral band members practice and rehearse for the show in Sting's home. At the end, they show the band watching the newsclip of the airplane crashing into the World Trade Center and they decide whether to cancel the show or continue with it. They obviously go on with the show and seeing Sting at a emotional state of mind really shows how authentic of a artist he really is. The only drawback was that it was held on September 11th and not before that date because the atmosphere besides it being beautiful was quite mellow from the fear and sorrow from the terrortist attacks. But it was a drawback that Sting had no control of. Despite all that, it was a top-notch, above average, excellent concert that Sting has done. All I would say is that it would have been better if it had been preformed without Sting being somewhat upset because there were songs that were not preformed in respect for the victims which I think was a respectful move by Sting. So in other Words: BUY THIS DVD!!! You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: A big downer Review: If you want to relive the attacks and get depressed, buy this DVD. It sounds great, but personally I'm not into wallowing (again) in the horror of 9/11. He should have waited a while to record this. This is big time depressing (understandable for the day), but I don't need to relive it over and over. Frankly, he still owes us all a correcly engineered "Brand New Day" DVD.
Rating: Summary: The Tao of Sting Review: It's a ten day international slumber party and week of brainstorming and rehearsing at Sting's place! The documentary portion starts with the international musicians arriving to Sting's Italian villa in the hills of Tuscany in preparation for a concert to be performed on his property on the eve of September 11th, 2001. This portion chronicles exactly how the concert came together and how Sting and the musicians he assembled for the project all worked together to reinvent and rework songs of his solo career and those from his days with the Police. The process is an interesting and vivid illustration of musical and creative Synchronicity in action. With the news of the tragic terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, the first part of the DVD turns out to be a time capsule which documents the fear and confusion of the day and a world changed forever. The meeting Sting has with his visiting musicians about whether they wish to proceed with the concert that they so enthusiastically and energetically rehearsed and planned is heartwrenching and gets very close to looking and sounding like group psychotherapy. The resulting concert (the second part of the DVD), although somewhat mellowed by the tragic events of that day becomes a musical healing process for this group of creative international artists and of a frightened and confused new world. The concert appropriately begins with Fragile. Although the melancholic mood fades somewhat as the band plays on, the energy levels just can't rise to a joyous and celebratory level. The musical synergy between all the artists, however is fantastic throughout. The concert ends up being a touching and intimate musical tribute to thousands who have died earlier in the day. All This Time DVD chronicles a creative and healing life process and the result is a mature, soothing, introspective, and 'jazzy' reinvention of Sting's music. If you must choose between the DVD and the audio CD, go for the DVD as the entire process is missed on the audio CD. The interest here is in the Journey, not the Destination.
Rating: Summary: Can't wait to own the DVD! Review: Just saw this on A&E (before the release of DVD) - AMAZING how Sting and his talented band have made new his great music even better - every song is done in a fresh new way - whether by speeding up the tempo (Every Breath You Take), making it more jazzy, showcasing an awesome trumpet player (Moon Over Bourbon Street), or just adding some new kicks (Brand New Day, If I Ever Lose My Faith). The documentary of the preparation for the concert was fascinating - you sit in on the band working through variations and trying out funky stuff - fabulous! The concert was held on Sept. 11, and the references and respects paid to the victims of the terrorist attacks were vivid and moving. The scene of Sting rounding up the team to discuss whether or not the show should go on was a testimony to the democratic way Sting leads his band, giving each player a chance to voice their opinion. We are lucky that they chose to do the show, albeit cutting some of the numbers (which we still get on the DVD from the dress rehearsal video taken Sept. 10) for a beautiful, appropriate set. And perhaps the music was all the better as each member of the band threw their grief and sorrow about the attacks into their music - this was an amazing show.
Rating: Summary: Sting's kickin! Review: Once again Sting prooves his professionality. Beautiful strings & brass section. As jazzy as it could be!!!
Rating: Summary: STING at his very best ...performed that fatefull day Review: Recorded live in Italy, at Sting's mountain villa, this DVD is mastered in clear and crisp 5.1 Dolby Digital this concert DVD is the one many that others of the genre should be measured against. One can only IMAGINE the torment and anguish running through the minds of STING and his band in performing this concert on that fatefull day of Sept 11,2001. Actually I understand that Sting left it up to the whole band to decide for a 'go or no go' on the taping and I guess it will always be a 'damned if you do or damned if you don't' kind of decision .... It's obvious that I'm one of his fans that appreciated their decision not to let those NUTS that want to change our lives accomplish their perverted goals! As you peruse the program of songs performed I would advise the reader that although he plays them as new perfomances of his Sting and Police classic pieces ..... and ... trust me, the maturity in his voice and the crystal clear state of the art sound equipment come through in flying colours and are nothing less than stupendous ..... This is a must have DVD in your collection ...... WOW
