Summary: The Best Madonna Concert Ever!!!
Review: I had the supreme pleasure of attending two of the concerts on the Drowned World Tour, and I'll tell you this...the DVD is almost as good as the real thing(almost.) It includes a wonderful photo gallery and the option of lyrics that run at the bottm of the screen for the entire show. Of course, this is also the best Madonna show I've ever seen, so the DVD has to be spectacular. A must have for any true Maddy fan!!

Summary: I don't see how she does it!
Review: I have to admit that before seeing the concert live in Oakland, I have lost track of Madonna and her music. I scored some great tickets and took three out-of-town buddies to see "Madge" for the first time. Let me tell you - every song was terrific and her voice was great. Having never heard Drowned World, Sky Fits Heaven, Lo Que Siente La Mujer, ect. before seeing the show made me go and out get her last three CD's the next day. The show clipped by at a nice pace and (I don't see how she did it) she was out there performing (almost - there were a few video moments to allow for costume changing) every song without missing a beat. One thing I loved about her dancers is that they avoid the "tired as Hell" Britney/JLO approach - these dancers had some fresh moves and it's nice to see Madonna still distances the copycats and competition by beefing up the creativity factor. In fact, the show had a very "Broadway" theatrical quality that put it so far ahead of the typical "screaming fans" type of show pop artists put on.
I must say, the DVD is terrific in terms of sound, but the picture quality lacks the maximum sheen a DVD can provide. I think the reason for this is perhaps the broadcast elements in addition to the actual video source lead to this. Overall, however, the picture is much sharper than the original broadcast and the colors, especially reds (the Geisha segment is smashing) are vibrant and rich (blues are good, too).
I recall the Oakland show I attended to be MUCH livelier and the crowds danced a lot more than the crowd here - still it's difficult to be a crazy audience member when you're so mesmerized by her on stage - her moves, expressions...she is quite the personality and you want to catch every moment (I'd be out of breath and exhausted after one song if I were to perform a concert like this!). I think her decision to stand still and actually sing several songs was a wise one - she over-extended herself in previous concerts and her vocals suffered at some venues (the Blond Ambition tour on laserdisc being a prime example - her voice was somewhat hoarse for that performance).
Like I said the songs were terrific and I can see why her older hits weren't included (weren't they done EVERY tour since '84, anyway?) - I can't (wouldn't want to) see Like a Virgin performed after Mer Girl or how about Material Girl after Substitute for Love - they just wouldn't fit.
Great DVD, but I would have loved more extras: Donna DeLory's interviews, "Madge" before the concert, fan testimonials...anything would have been great! Still as a showcase for a more "mature" Madonna, our lady is still as entertaining to watch as ever.

Summary: Lets just say I wish I could give it ten stars
Review: This is such a terrific concert that I wish that I could change the way we rate. Madonna IS the pulse of music. After having seen this show live- I can only say that if you didn't, there should be nothing that stops you from seeing her next tour. The level of electricity generated in a room she is in is worth the price of admission alone.

This dvd totally rocks! I love that you can have the lyrics displayed throughout the concert!!!! I can barely choose my favorite moments- but total standouts have to be "Lo que siente la mujer", "human nature", "impressive instant", and the whole end of the show.

For all of those that have bitched about the fact that the bill is filled with mostly new songs- chill out. She is sooooo far and away the leading force of today's music that you should just strap in and enjoy! Her renditions back to back of "holiday" and "music" remind us of the full spectrum of music for the last twenty years and further establish Madonna as the queen of all that is good and right in music!

Summary: AWFUL , JUST AWFUL
Review: There are no words to describe how awful this concert is. The only part that's acceptable is near the end, while the rest is terribly disappointing. And this comes from a 15-year+ super fan who has been really let down. I enjoyed more the bootleg of the show in Barcelona. Any other concert by MAdonna is way more better. I really can't see why people love this.

Summary: dissapointed
Review: If you are looking for Madonna's hits during a concert, this one shows most of her newest songs. What dissapointed the concert for us was the artsy look to the concert. I realize that some like that, but we found it odd, and took away from her great performance. But if you are into women wearing gas masks, and stuff like that, you will probably enjoy this.

Rent this video/DVD before you buy it.

Summary: "A theatrical representation of my Music" ~Madonna Ciccone~
Review: Inspired on the Kabbalah's Tree of Life and the futuristic novel "The Drowned World" by J.G. Ballard, Madonna's own Drowned World is filled by Punks from London's King's road, consummated Geishas from Kioto, Electronic-carnivorous Cowgirls from somewhere in the west coast,
Apocaliptic Flamenco dancers and Ghettolicious party pimps.
This show is a celebration where the leading charactor finds the truth at the end of each act.
Where each world can't exist within the other.
This is actually one of the most amazing stage performances of this new century, a lot of people that could not understand the complexity of this show filled with not so beautiful but shocking metaphores of life, say that this is not as good as previous tours just because she ain't singing old hits... but why to repeat something that has already been done, when you have amazing new material to perform live for the 1st time!!!... the only boring part of the concert is when she sings her 80's hit Holiday...but even that song sounds fresh and new!! but i can also understand some celebrities who trashed the show as boring like Eminem and Robbie Williams who are way too stupid to undrestand this cathartic show and adding that they had to pay for their tickets..so please don't belive everything you read on newspapers... feel it for yourself and drown in to Madonna's world!!
this is by far...the best show of the 21th Century!!!

Summary: Worth 8 years of waiting!
Review: Actually I just watched that concert on HBO last Tuesday night and I think it is an important souvenir to all Madonna fans throughout the world. Songs, new and old, such as "Secrets","Music" and "Sky Fits Heaven" created a potent mixture that has captured thousand of fans who thronged into the concert. Certainly, she and Hamish Hamilton cooperation has created a concert to be remember. Welcome back, mama Maddy!

Summary: Almost as good as being there
Review: If you're in love with Madonna or you simply are just interested in her music, you won't be disappointed by this DVD concert. The show is quite a spectacle and it is shot for this DVD in a way that, I believe, captures the spirit of the live performance quite accurately. There are some instances when I wish the camera would have panned wider so that the viewer gets a feel for what it was like at an actual show, but the show itself makes up for that -- not to mention the fact that the close-ups of Madonna are something you COULDN'T get at the show.

The performances of songs are strong, the theatrics in the show are incredible and very entertaining. The quality of the video and audio on the DVD are great. I wish there were some bonus features, but you know Madonna does things her way so I guess we can't expect to get everything we want!

All in all, a strong return to the concert stage for the Material Girl and the DVD captures the experience very well.

Summary: Somewhat entertaining
Review: This concert is definately not as exciting and thrilling as her other concerts. She sings most of the songs so she is limited in her actual stage performance. She stands still during MOST of the songs (around 20 songs)with an exception of a couple (2 or 3) where she actually dances around the stage. She has very few stage props and skits in comparing to her other concerts. She is getting older and seems to have much less energy than she used to. Unless you are a big Madonna fan don't waste your money. Try renting it or wait until it comes on HBO.
