Rating: Summary: Madonna *Not* Drowning In This World Tour Review: I didn't get to see Madonna's "Drowned World Tour" live, but this video more than makes up for what I missed.I happen to like Madonna in all of her reincarnations. This 2001 tour finds her still very active (dancing all over the stage!) but less exhibitionistic (less skin) and more thoughtful. The biggest surprise here is that Madonna is quite a musician. For so many years we've seen her lip syncing in concert (so much dancing!). But I realized that Madonna writes most of her songs. She has also taken up playing the guitar, and it is nice to see her strumming on it toward the end of the concert. In fact, she looks downright happy! The best part of the concert is the last third. "Don't Tell Me" is a lot of fun (with the plastic-wrapped haystacks). "Secret" gets a nice, ethnic rendition. "Lo Que Siente la Mujer (What It Feels Like for a Girl)" is sexy and wonderful. And "La Isla Bonita" rocks!! Madonna strums her guitar and the dancers jam onstage - it's as if Madonna was a gypsy, playing for her dancers by the bonfire. The heat, energy and sexuality is incredible in this number. And Madonna tears it up with the finale, "Music". Damn, watch her do those squat-jumps! My thighs hurt just thinking about it! So, as a 40-something wife and mother, Madonna proves that she can still kick butt in concert. Her message, even after all these years, is simple and persuasive: get up, get on the dance floor, we need a holiday.
Rating: Summary: Drowned world tour 2001 Review: Madonna is a an excellent performer of all time. I seen the Drowned World Tour Live in Oakland,Ca and it was the most incredible event ever!! I was front stage to the show and I was literally in a different world...Madonna's world. This was my first Madonna concert I have attend and have been a long time of fan, since early 80's. The dancing, the stage was awesome. I thought the "Impressive Instant" routine was cool. I recommend this DVD to any Madonna fan...a must have. You can crank up the volume and lose yourself in the show. I cant wait till the next tour comes, I will be there!!!
Rating: Summary: Drowned World Tour a Must Have!!! Review: ...P>Yesterday, my copy of Madonna Drowned World Tour 2001 arrived in the mail. It is a fantastic concert, with so many special effect "touches". There was not a moment when I did not enjoy watching this show. It was just as good as if being there in person. Certainly not a kitch or tired concert. The costumes, song selection and interaction between Madonna and the audience was great. Loved the part where she pulls off her wig to do her "new song" titled "The Funny Song". Her country girl side comes out, and I really appreciated her choreography and her reign over the stage. Once again,Madonna became the chameleonic wonder she's always been. The picture and sound quality on my copy of the DVD is great. The photo gallery is gorgeous, but flashes by too fast. This may be a small glitch in the production of the DVD batch which mine came from. As soon as we popped the DVD into my computer DVD drive, I knew this concert was a must see. It's the first time I actually watched an entire Madonna concert. Yeah, really! From what i have seen in the past, Madonna still grinds herself into everything a little bit, but was much less the provocative idol she has been for over two decades. I love the "headbanging" thing she does in "Ray Of Light". It's so much the Madonna I've never seen before. The song "Nobody's Perfect" was stunning, and I want to watch/listen to that particular song over and over again. Simply amazing. I appreciate concerts like this, and hope that Madonna makes another one similar to it again, some time soon. This is the song list, including the many interludes between costume changes: Drowned World Substitute for Love Impressive Instant Candy Perfume Girl Beautiful Stranger Ray Of Light Paradise (Not for Me) Frozen Open Your Heart (Swell) Nobody's Perfect Mer Girl Part 1 Sky fits Heaven Mer Girl Part II I Deserve It Don't Tell Me Human Nature The Funny Song Secret Gone Don't Cry For Me Argentina Instrumental Lo Que Siente La Mujer (What it feels like for a girl) La Isla Bonita Holiday Music Out of all the songs, I like "Nobody's Perfect" the most. Great effects on the pitch bending, as well as the choreography. Hope this review is helpful.
Rating: Summary: MADONNA LIKE NEVER BEFORE Review: Madonna is a Goddess of the Mount Olympus, every day sings and dances better. The sound is to expectacular like the rest of the musicians and the choreography. HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE !!
Rating: Summary: Good but not very sexy Review: I love Madonna but on this tour i did not feel she sang or danced to her normal standard! I think the show could have had the hits like Vogue and Live To Tell. And useally her shows are more sexy, hopefully on her next tour she will bring the full Madonna to life. Overall 8/10
Rating: Summary: Madonna's Drowned World Tour 2001 Review: I loved the HBO broadcast, so you know I jumped at the chance of getting the dvd. On this tour, in support of 2000's near-bland Music and we might as well say 1998's superb Ray Of Light. She mostly performs material from those two albums and the weak 'filler'-sounding "I Deserve It" and "Gone" seem like Madonna gems when performed live. In addition, she also took on the big Bedtime Stories hits like "Secret" and "Human Nature", in which she gave us some old school Madonna when she rode a mechanical bull. The tour doesn't really go for concept like Blonde Ambition and Girlie Show-it just flows smoothly through dramatic performance art, matrix-style fighting, and the still confusing cowgirl fetish she just can't shake yet. There were funny, emotional and daring moments: the best being the spanish dancing number during "La Isla Bonita", the nostalgic, effortless fun of "Holiday" and the 2000 anthem "Music". Madonna's performances with Donna and Nicki are still great entertainment. A less than stellar moment: that horrible "Oh Dear Daddy". Whats worse is Madonna hyping the brand new song up(in a southern accent) like its going to be the next "Vogue" to her hometown audience. What we get is another song about cooking and eating wicked men-remember Dixie Chick's hit "Goodbye Earl"? She could have given us a third classic song in its place to balance the catalog a little. Still overall it was a good show..full of suprises and fun.
Rating: Summary: Madonna rocks the stadium to its foundations! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Review: The place: Palace of Auburn Hills, Michigan, US. The date: Sunday 26th August 2001. The main attraction: The Queen. In June 2001, Madonna announced that she would be touring for the first time in eight years since 1993's The Girlie Show Live as part of the Drowned World Tour 2001. Millions of fans worldwide jammed the phone lines to try and get tickets to this truly amazing experience. Dubbed the most anticipated pop concert of all time, all six shows at Wembley Arena sold out in six hours. It was the same in Spain, Germany, Italy, France and countless states across the US. The price of tickets were higher than normal concert tickets, with some Internet auctioners willing to shell out £3000 for a front row seat. So any Madonna fan should have this wonderful concert to re-live that once in a lifetime experience. Madonna's Drowned World Tour was THE concert of 2001. The show starts of with Madonna singing Drowned World/Substitute For Love. The crowd goes wild at the sight of Madonna in a kilt. Then it's time to get the house pumping with a superb performance of Impressive Instant from her No.1 2000 album, Music. The crowd goes wild when she performs THAT explicit scene! Madonna may have dumped the sexual antics from the early 90's, but she still does it in her performances! Candy Perfume Girl from the 1998 album Ray Of Light is next in line. Madonna shows us she can play a guitar with a message at the end; "F**k off, motherf**kers!". The audience just can't get enough of it. Madonna says, "Do I make you horny?!" before breaking out into her brilliant hit, Beautiful Stranger. Ray Of Light is next in line and has to be one of the Top 5 performances of the whole show - the energy just surges through the arena and overcomes its residents with satisfaction, love and pure bliss for their Queen. Paradise (Not For Me) is actually performed on a screen instead of a performance on stage. The performance of Frozen, Madonna's comback single from early 1998 is amazing - check out the 57ft sleeves on her arms! Open Your Heart is just a Chinese instrumental that lasts about 30 seconds - that shouldn't really be included on the tracklisting. Nobody's Perfect is another great performance. Sky Fits Heaven is another highlight of the concert. Madonna bungie jumps around the stage fighting crime while managing to sing! Mer Girl Parts I and II are pretty disappointing where I Deserve It is another good performance where Madonna shows off her guitar skills. Her well recieved performance of Don't Tell Me is another highlight. Hay-stacks and cowboys galore are the focus of this performance. The crowd are frantic when Madonna joins back-up singers and dancers as they clump together and dance - remeniscent of her MTV Video Music Awards 1990 Vogue performance. An old classic from 1995, Human Nature is up next. Madonna gets on a Buckin Bronco and rides around like a crazy woman! She takes the time to thank her country and her Dad - because he's "so cool". She teases the crowd with "I've got a new song to play for you - never heard before". The crowd get all excited before she belts out The Funny Song. This is obviously not gonna be a song of hers because it's so rubbish! Madonna then sings Secret from her 1994 album Bedtime Stories followed by Gone from her 2000 album Music. Don't Cry For Me Argentina (Instrumental) is next followed by a disturbing, pornographic cartoon Introduction for the Spanish version of What It Feels Like For A Girl. I know Madonna likes to shock, but she crosses the line here. I felt physically sick. The crowd go wild when she belts out La Isla Bonita followed by Holiday - Madonna's ultimate classic. She's performed Holiday at every one of her concerts (Virgin Tour - 1984, Who's That Girl - 1987, Blonde Ambition - 1990 and The Girlie Show Live - 1993), so why not at this one? The crowd love her for it. But the biggest roar comes from the last song, Music. The first few words of Music, "do you like to, boogie woogie?" and the crowd are in awe. OVERALL GRADE: 10/10 Madonna's Drowned World Tour 2001 is a concert to remember. There's something here for everyone. A lot of people wanted her to sing more older songs, but she'll be saving that for a Greatest Hits Tour spanning all her hits in a few years time, mark my words...
Rating: Summary: ITS AMAZING WHAT THIS GIRL CAN DO SHE JUST CANT STOP HERSELF Review: First off let's compare this particular concert to others by different artists. Nsync and Backstreet Boys cannot compare with the creativity of this concert all they can do is capture the eyes of little girls who "swoon" over them. As for Britney Spears she cannot dance even if you gave her the steps imprinted on the floor.Enough Said! Yes this year in particular is Madonna's 20th year jubilee because she started in 1982 with the release with her first single "Everybody". Since then she's been able to amaze us, most certainly shock us, often cause controversy, cause a commotion and in this case show herself off over other artists. I believe that Madonna has formed many of the groups today for the inspiration she has given them. However, nonetheless they still cannot compare. Can you believe a 43 year old women can still get up and dance better than a youthful 20 year old Britney Spears. It's all right here for you to see. Most of your complaints due to this concert involves the lack of her older songs performed. This is very true in fact she only performed "La Isla Bonita" and of course "Holiday." But let's consider that she has EIGHT albums FOUR soundtracks and FOUR compilations. In tatal if you cannot add thats SIXTEEN albums. And on top of this she has not been on tour since 1993 with the girlie show. That's a EIGHT year difference and within that eight years shes come up with SIX new albums(inclusing soundtracks) in which she has to perform songs from each af those albums. As much as we would like to see her on stage ALL night, it's impossible for her to perform all her hits within 2 hours. AND also Madonna sings drowned world/substitute for love DONT THOSE WORDS MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU. She says shes CHANGED HER WAYS. People Madonna is a 43 year old "MARRIED" MOTHER OF TWO. She can't go around singing LIKE A VIRGIN or PAPA DONT PREACH or for that matter EROTICA with this brand new ststus on her. She was single then but ever since ray of light when she had her first child she's more spiritual and a NEW woman. Sorry people but Madonna did the right thing not including those songs. You actually should have expected it to be that way. Madonna has been with us for 2 decades and this DROWNED WORLD TOUR(HELLO THE LYRICS TO THIS SONG AS I SAID REFLECT ON WHAT SHE'LL SING) is a real treat. GOOD WORK MADONNA YOU ARE AMAZING!
Rating: Summary: Oh My God(dess)! Review: I can't say enough about how much I adore Madonna. Come on, watch that very show, feel the electricity, you just can't believe it is from our 42-year-old Mrs Ritchie. She is simply the Goddess of Pop on this planet. Period. The show has no boring times at all, and has its climax at the end with the classics La Isla Bonita, Holiday, and the recent hit Music, with which I was dancing in front of my computer. The new arrangements for La Isla Bonita and Secret were absolutely fabulous - You gotta check them out. The last piece, MUSIC - WHAO, what can you say? But I agree with a couple of the other reviewers that that are some things in the show that did not make much sense. Like the Japanese animations - I was scratching my head. And like the video clip that they showed behind Madonna in SECRET - religious practices, tribal rituals.... what does it has to do with "My babe has a secret"? But that does not take away any credits from Madonna. she had been "material"istic, "erotic", saint, and now into the accoustic guitar... Madonna has given us the best and I wish her the best in her family life.
Rating: Summary: The concert is fantastic, but the DVD isn't Review: Madonna is at her best when she's on stage performing her hits in a musical theater format. Drowned World Tour is by far her most ambitious project to date, musically and theatrically. It's more toned down compared to Blonde Ambition or Girlie Show, but it's more ambitious in that she sings live (no back tracks) here more times than the other two and she plays her guitar. The marriage between video and live theater is also ideal here. HOWEVER, there's nothing in the DVD except the concert and a photo gallery. The production company could have added some bonus features like a loook at the production process, a sneak peak backstage, etc...
